Amber nods, her voice shaky as she continues her story.
"He did it for the money," she says bitterly. "He needed the money, and the mayor was willing to pay a lot for me. So he sold me to him, like I was some sort of commodity."
Her mother and sister are both speechless, listening in horror as Amber continues her tale. Her mom's face is filled with anguish, her hands gripping Amber's tightly as if trying to hold onto her, to keep her safe.
Her sister's face is filled with anger and disbelief, her hands clenched into fists at her sides. She can hardly believe what she's hearing, and her heart is filled with a mixture of rage and helplessness.
Amber finishes recounting her story, her voice fading into silence. Her mother and sister are both stunned, both struggling to process the horrific things Amber has just told them. The room is filled with a heavy, tense silence as they all try to absorb the weight of Amber's words.
Her mother's voice trembles as she speaks, her eyes filled with worry and fear.
"Amber, we can't let this go on. What if that man, De-Martin, finds out what happened? He could come after you, he could hurt you. We have to do something."
Her sister nods in agreement, her expression serious and determined.
"Mom's right," she says. "We can't just sit here and do nothing. We have to take action, we have to protect Iris."
Amber looks at her family, her expression heavy with resignation.
"It's no use," she mutters. "The mayor is too powerful. He threatened me, said he'd hurt you both if I tried anything. There's nothing we can do."
Her mother and sister both look stricken, their faces filled with despair and hopelessness.
"What are we supposed to do, then?" her mom asks, her voice choked with emotion. "We can't just let him get away with this. We can't let him hurt you like this."
Her sister clenches her fists again, frustration and anger written all over her face. She looks like she wants to shout, to scream in frustration, but she holds it back, trying to stay calm for Amber's sake.
"There must be something we can do," she mutters, her voice filled with determination. "We can't just give up."
Amber shakes her head, her expression hopeless and defeated.
"There's nothing we can do," she says again, her voice barely more than a whisper. "We're powerless. The mayor has all the power, and we can't stand up to him."
Her mother and sister both look devastated. They know Amber is right - the mayor is too powerful, and they are too powerless to do anything against him.
"We can't just accept this," her mom mutters, her voice thick with emotion. "There has to be some way to stop him, to stop this nightmare."
Her sister clenches her fists tighter, her jaw set in a grim line. Despite Amber's words, she is determined not to give up.
"We can't just give up," she says again, her voice firm and resolute. "There has to be a way to fight back, to protect you and get revenge on that monster."
Her mother nods, her expression steely and set. She, too, is determined not to give up, to find a way to protect Amber and bring the mayor to justice.
"You're right," she says, her voice filled with newfound determination. "We can't just sit here and do nothing. We have to find a way to fight back, to protect you and make sure that madman pays for what he's done."
Amber looks at her family, her eyes wide with surprise and uncertainty. She can hardly believe her mother and sister are still refusing to give up, despite the odds stacked against them.
"But, but..." she stutters, her voice shaking. "You can't... you can't go against the mayor. It's too dangerous, he'll hurt you."
Her mother reaches out and takes her hand, her grip firm and reassuring.
"We don't care about that," her mom says firmly. "We're not going to let him hurt you anymore. We're going to find a way to protect you, no matter what it takes."
Amber's voice trembles as she looks at her mother, her eyes pleading for her to understand.
"Mom, you have to understand," she says, her voice shaky. "We can't do anything against him. I can't go against him. He's too powerful, too dangerous. It's hopeless."
Her mother's face is filled with anguish and concern, her grip on Amber's hand tightening.
"I know he's powerful, sweetheart," she says, her voice quiet and gentle. "But we can't just give up. We have to find a way to protect you, to make sure he can't hurt you anymore."
Amber shakes her head, her eyes filling with tears again. She feels hopeless, like there's nothing that can be done to protect her from the mayor's power and cruelty.
"But what can we do?" she asks, her voice small and defeated. "He's too strong, too powerful. We're just helpless."
Amber takes a deep breath, her mother's hand steadying her as she struggles to her feet. She feels a little dizzy still, but she pushes through the feeling, determined to get moving.
"I can't stay here," she mutters, her voice determined despite her exhaustion. "I need to leave. Once I'm settled somewhere, I'll call you, I promise."
Her mother and sister both look shocked and concerned. They don't want Amber to leave, not when she's still so vulnerable and hurt. But they can see the determination in her eyes, the fierce need to get away from this situation.
"Amber, wait," her mom says, her voice urgent. "Where will you go? How will you survive?"
Amber looks at her mom and sister, her eyes tired and weary but resolute. She doesn't have a plan, not really, but she knows she can't stay here. She can't let the mayor control her life any longer.
"I don't know," she admits, her voice quiet and shaky. "I just... I just need to get away. I can't stay here. I'll figure something out, I promise. I just need to leave."
