City of Springs

"That's a military base?!" Herro pointed out his finger towards a 30-story-building. Kira nodded, confirming that what she said was indeed correct.

Herro's face was filled with confusion as he scrutinized the whole building. The military base in front of them was just like a commercial building and it clearly looks like an office of a great conglomerate. The only thing that makes one believe that it was really a military base was the name of the building, which is "City of Springs' Military base."

"City of Springs?" Herro asked Kira, who was sitting beside him.

"Ohhhh! I forgot to mention that this place where we are is named Spring City, but the residents and other people from other places liked calling it as the City of Springs. I didn't mention it before because it doesn't matter what the name of the city is if it is desolate." Kira looks up above and then shakes her head.

Herro felt the sadness in Kira's words. It looks like this was Kira's hometown.

It was already noon when they reached the military base. Then Kira stood up and said, "The Mutants start hunting in the morning and they will only return around when the sun sets in the West. So we have a large amount of time to set up traps."

Herro, who was still confused, nodded his head in agreement.

Herro couldn't contain his curiosity and finally decided to ask Kira to solve the problem that was bugging him.

"Uhhhmmm, Kira. You said that this was a military base, right? Why does this military base look like an office of a large conglomerate? Where are the tanks? The various equipment for training?"

When Kira heard Herro's question, she let out a chuckle and excitedly said, "You really are a being from the past! Just wait and I will show you something that will amaze the hell out of you!" Then Kira started to walk towards the building and Herro followed her nervously. Although Kira assured him that the Mutants won't come back until dusk, he was still afraid. After all, the most terrifying thing is the unknown.

When Kira saw how tense Herro was, she looked back and said, "Why are you so tense? You don't have to worry about anything because I am willing to protect you with my life." Kira said it to Herro with a firm voice and a face full of seriousness and confidence. Herro's heart goes 'Ba-dump' as it loudly beats inside him. He felt his ears and cheeks felt hot and he knew that he was blushing. Kira was so beautiful and he was clearly captivated when she said those words.

Although he felt like an incompetent guy who can't protect his girl and instead let her protect him, he was still feeling happy, as if he was on cloud nine.

He shook his head and he calmed down. His body relaxed as he let out a forceful sigh, removing his uneasiness. Then he looked at Kira and said, "Please take care of me."

Kira smiled at him and then started walking again. This time, Herro feels a lot more courageous knowing that Kira is willing to protect him.

They entered the building that was said to be a military base. Although it was not covered with vines like the other buildings, it was a complete wreck. Herro concluded that the cause of the destruction of the building was the attack of the Mutants. He saw claw marks on the walls and faded blood marks on the wall.

This evidence backs up his conclusion that the Mutants were really the cause of it. They were not prepared by the sudden attacks of the BES injected persons and they were not able to ready themselves resulting in this massive destruction.

The military was the first to suffer the attacks from the Mutants because they quarantined here before they evolved or transform.

Herro was just following Kira. He forced himself to control the urge to ask her again why this commercial building is called a military base.

After walking for around a minute, Kira stopped in front of a large sectional door that is around 10-meters high. Herro also stopped and scrutinized the door.

Then Kira suddenly leaned down and grabbed the handle. Herro thought that she would try to unlock it, but what happened next shocked him again.

Kira was holding firmly on the handle and then she pulled it upwards forcefully. The door rolled all the way on the top because of too much force. Herro, who was thinking that Kira would unlock the door with normal methods, was just standing there like an idiot, with his mouth gaping wide in shock.

What he means in normal methods is like using a lock pick or other methods to open a door, but he was not able to ready himself for what he had seen.

The seemingly thin lady could open a wide, 10-meters sectional door with her bare hands!

Kira walks inside without looking back at Herro. Herro shook his head and gathered his thoughts and decided to follow Kira inside. The room almost took half of the ground floor's space. It was filled with broken guns and ammunition that were scattered on the floor.

"Follow me," Kira said as she walked towards the corner of the room. Herro just followed her like a loyal dog.

Then Kira stopped in front of stacks of crates. Herro wondered what's inside, but his curiosity was eased immediately because Kira opened one of the crates.

"Grenades?!" Herro was startled to see that the crate that Kira opened was filled with golf-sized bombs.

"Ahhh, yes. These are the modern grenades. Its size is as large as golf balls, but its explosive power is greater than the hand-thrown grenades in your times." Kira explained to Herro.

Herro was amazed and learned an interesting and futuristic thing from Kira. Then Kira continued to explain the grenade to Herro. "This grenade is composed of highly compressed and dense hydrogen that is why it will create a large explosion, even though its size is small."

"The world really changed after a thousand years." Herro happily said. "Can I touch the grenade?" Herro curiously said. He had never held a grenade before, especially guns or other lethal modern weapons.

He liked movies about war and the military the most because it is exciting. It was his dream to hold some weapons of mass destruction. Kira nodded and instructed him not to press the green button or it will explode after five seconds.

Then Kira passed him the grenade and when he got to hold it he felt fear and at the same time, great excitement.

The little ball that he was holding in his hands can kill tens of humans and he really felt superior. But that feeling was immediately washed away as he shook his head, shaking that sinister idea.

Then he handed back the grenade to Kira. After putting it back in the crate, Kira closed the crate and stood up.

"We will bring this with us. We will use it to make a trap underground and kill those Mutants." Kira said as she looked seriously at Herro.

"Underground?" Herro asked curiously.

"Just follow me." Then Kira put the crate inside her bag. The crate was not that big and her bag is quite big and can hold large quantities of items inside.

Herro didn't volunteer to carry the bag because he already knew the limit of his physical body.

He felt like an ant compared to Kira, who has a Herculean strength. Kira could injure a Mutant to the point that Herro could kill it without having any injury.

Then Kira started walking towards the center and Herro followed her. Then Herro noticed that they were heading toward the circular metal embedded on the floor with a diameter of five meters that looks like a trapdoor.

At first he didn't mind or thought what is that trapdoor-looking metal, because this place is supposed to be a futurized military base and there are things he did not know about.

When she suddenly jumped forward, directed to the metal trapdoor and landed a kick that created a loud sound from the impact. The building where they are also shaken from the strong impact of her kick.

Herro was again suffered from mental shock. He fell to the floor while his eyes were glued towards where Kira landed.

Then he saw Kira smiled at him and signed to come there. He stood up while he was still in a daze and started walking towards Kira while his legs are shaking.

After he reached the center where Kira landed, he clearly saw that the metal was destroyed. Then Kira lifted it and threw it on the side. This thing did not shock him or amazed him anymore, he grew immune to her inhuman strength and anything she will do in the future will not shock him anymore.

But after Kira lifted the circular metal that has a diameter of five meters, she grabbed Herro and jumped into the hole.

Herro was again shocked by what she did.
