The Hospital (2)

I awoke to the sound of someone humming. It was the most beautiful sound I have ever heard. Then, my stomach growled. The humming quickly turned into a deep laugh.

"Hungry?" the voice says.

"Yeah. Who are you?" I say sitting up.

"He walks over, "I'm not shocked you don't remember me. You're boyfriend left a little bit ago. I think he went to the lunch room."

"He's not my…"

"I'm not you're what." Ryan said walking in with a tray of food.

"Brother. You're not my brother." I gasped out.

"Well I surely hope not." He placed the tray down. "And who is this?" he gestured to the stranger in the room.

"No one really. Just a family friend." The guy said.

The smell of the food was too enticing.

"Well, I'll let you eat in peace. Hope you feel better Grace. See you." The stranger said as he walked out the door with a wave of his hand.

"Okay, what was that really about?" Ryan said.

I pull off the lid to find chicken and corn with a side salad. "I honestly have no idea. Can I eat now?"

"Oh sure, sorry."

Having Ryan watch me I ate was embarrassing. His eyes followed the fork as it went from the plate to my mouth. When he started licking his lips, I stopped. I pushed the tray away and relaxed into my pillows. It was silent.

"Grace, are you really okay?" Ryan asked.

I sighed. "Yes."

"What the hell happened that night?"

he brought up the one thing I didn't want to talk about. "I don't really know. All I do know was that I was really worried for you." I could hear his chuckle. "And then my body just acted on its own."

It was silent for a minute as Ryan thought what to say next. "Then what about the light?"

"How is it that you always ask the things that I never know?" He chuckled. "I really don't comprehend how it happened, but I will figure it out, no matter the cost."

He frowned.

"What?"

"I just don't want you to hurt yourself again." He said bluntly.

I gasped. Who would have thought that Ryan would have a soft side. I've only ever seen his tough football at school. Who knew? It soon grew quite again as I thought about what he now said.

"Why now?" I whispered.

"Huh?"

"Why now? Why did you want to start hanging out with me? You told me that you like me, but you had three years to tell me. Three years. Why now?"

"I don't really know why. One day I woke up and I had this feeling like you disappeared. I got scared."

I didn't really know how to reply so we stayed quiet. Eventually the silence got to me and my eyes slowly started closing. Someone shaking me soon pulled me out of my dreamless sleep.

"Grace! Grace! You need to wake up now!" the voice shouts hit my ears. "Please Grace, you have to wake up."

I groaned as I tried to grasp what was going on.

"Come on Grace. We need to leave now." Ryan called out, as he lifted me off the warm comfy bed.

"What's going on?" I managed to whiz out.

He didn't say anything as we moved towards the door. The way he held me made me feel so secure. He always did his best for me. I just don't understand why we need to fight all the time. I smiled as I remembered all the stupid fight we would have.

Ryan chose that moment to look down. "What are you smiling about?" he asked.

"Nothing really. Just thinking."

"Sure you are."

As we walked down the hall it was very quiet. No sounds were made as we moved. I couldn't even hear Ryan's footsteps. Then he suddenly stopped, freezing in the middle.

"Ryan?"

"Shh. Please stay quiet." He whispered.

I wanted so badly to ask him what was going on but I listened to his words.

"Shit." He muttered and started backing up

"Wha-"

"Shh. Keep quiet." He whispered into my ear. Ryan turned around and started running in the direction of my room. I managed to look behind us and saw nothing.

"Ryan?"

He looked down at the call of his name. His eyes were no longer the same as the ones I were falling for. What. Did I just say that? There could be no way. "Not now Grace, I need you to trust me and stay quiet. Please." Ryan said breaking through my thoughts.

I nodded my head and kept any questions to myself.

Now that I was finally quiet, Ryan was able to run faster. He just kept running, we flew by everything. Rooms, stairs, even a few nurses who told us to slow down. Finally we reached the room I was staying in.

Well that was pointless, I thought.

Ryan placed me down on the bed and then went to the door, locking it. "That won't hold them off for long." He then went to the window and tried opening it. It was nice being able to watch his muscles bulge through his shirt. "Shit."

Instead of telling me what was wrong, Ryan began storming through the cupboards looking for things. I had no clue of. "Here it is." He said, pulling out what looked to be a lighter.

"What's that for?"

"They're afraid of fire." He said testing it.

"Who is?"

"I'll tell you later. Now please stay quiet."

Ryan strode into the bathroom and came out not even a minute later with paper towels. Then dropping everything on the floor, Ryan picked up a chair and threw it against the window. The window caved under the force of the chair, smashing into pieces.

"What are you doing?" I almost screamed.

He lit the towel on fire and then threw it out the window. When Ryan looked back at me his eyes were covered in great anger. "We need to leave, now." He said like nothing happened.

I stuck to the basic answer I could think of. "Huh?"

With a soft smile he said, "Out the window." I watched in total amazement as Ryan strode over, lifting me into his arms.

Standing on the window sill, the fire ablaze down below, I finally let out that scream that has been stuck in my throat. It was one of those high pitch screams you would hear in a horror movie. When a serial killer is chasing the female lead.

"What the fuck are you doing? Put me down." I yelled, kicking and screaming.

"Grace! Stop. I promised you that you would be safe. I won't let anything happen to you." He whispered into my ear.

"Ryan, you are jumping from a window three stories high, with a gigantic fire below. How is that not dangerous."

"Grace." He whispered. "Trust me, nothings going to happen. Close your eyes."

As soon as my eyes were closed, I felt the wind carry my hair. My stomach dropping, I let out another bloodcurdling scream. But it was over before it even started. The feel of the impact of the ground could be compared to being hit by a car. Though I think it was worse.

"See all good." I could hear the sarcasm in his voice.

Opening my eyes, I look up into his green eyes. "What the hell is wrong with you? If only I could move on my own I could kick your ass." He laughed. "What the hell is with you?"

"Grace, you've already kicked me onto my ass a few times. Which reminds me." He said, leaning down placing his lips on mine. I was too stunned to move. This kiss was over just as fast as it happened. He grinned at the shock on my face. "That was revenge for that kick you gave me the other day."

"I didn't say anything. Not because I couldn't speak and even if I could speak, I wouldn't be able to put a coherent thought together.

"you know I love how you always have a comeback for everything; however, I think I love this way even more." He said, placing a soft kiss on my forehead. "We need to get moving before they find us again." Ryan must have seen the confused look on my face. "I'll explain everything later."

I finally found my voice. "You better."
