It was like before. Sano wasn't sure how much time had passed, but he let Erina cry. However, when she stopped balling, she picked herself up and wiped away her leftover tears.
"I don't think I thanked you for saving me before. So thank you." Erina said, trying to be earnest as possible.
"You'll see your brother someday...but not yet." Sano said getting up from the bed. Kanon gave a smile of approval as she rubbed the girl's back.
Sano turned to see Yae regain her wits, as she began writing down on her clipboard.
"How much time we got left?" he asked.
Yae checked the overhead clock near the ceiling. Once she got a good look she affirmed her posture.
"5 minutes left, it's almost time to go." she said with a hint of reluctance.
"Awww." Kanon whined as she patted Erina's shoulder. Erina frowned with her, she had so much to talk about with her savior. The prisoner 1103 was supposed to be a terrifying god-eater unfit for society. A heartless felon so dangerous, you couldn't risk looking him in the eye. Someone so dangerous he needed a helmet locked on his head to keep from being fed or else he might bite someone. Or so she theorized.
But here he was treating her with kindness and the firm words of an elder brother. Sano saved her literally from the jaws of death.
"I guess we're out then. Kane, are you staying?" Sano asked. realizing he almost spoke for both of them.
"Yeah, if it's alright, I know I wanted to train all day, but we can wait. I"m gonna tell Erina all about our mission." Kanon said happily patting Erian's head, much to her chagrin.
"Why does he call you that mam?" Erina asked, unsure how to respond to this any longer.
"I don't know, but I like it and it sounds cool. Dangerous even." Kanon smirked and struck a dashing pose. Much to Erina's chagrin.
"So you call her Kane, and you called Captain, God-Eater. Why?" Erina asked. When he called Kanon Kane it was with no malice, but when he called Kota god-eater it was completely hostile.
"....I hate god-eaters." Sano said turning to the door, the statement was blunt as it was cold.
Each girl raised a brow in confusion.
Erina was in utter silence unsure how to respond.
"...But, aren't you a god-eater too?" she asked hesitantly.
"Ain't that a coincidence." Sano said sarcastically brandishing his armlet.
Kanon slightly frowned, still confused at his statement.
Yae was the only one who could see his face, and she saw anger and pain around the stoic wolf-like eyes.
Silence filled the room.
Were they all waiting for some context?, he thought. With an aggravated sigh, he turned to back to Kanon and Erina.
"It's not one story it is many." Sano said bitterly.
"What happened!?" she said ready to jump out of the bed.
Seeing this, Sano rolled his eyes and approached.
"LIke a said not a 5-minute story. If you want to know that much, show me you know how to listen." Sano teased.
"I'll rest! Just don't forget! Where can I find you!?" Erina asked frantically.
"I've got to find that out. I'm not sleeping in the infirmary anymore. Looks like I'm getting a cell, finally." Sano said sarcastically.
"But you saved me!" Erina argued.
"Yeah!" Kanon added.
"Erina. I"m not even supposed to be here. I saved you, and we're all happy for it, but It doesn't undo my sentence. If I didn't crash here I'd be back in my cell." Sano said starting to walk away.
"W-When I get out I"ll talk to Dr.Sakaki, after what you did you don't deserve to be put into a human cage!" Erina said bearing fists.
Sano gave her a peculiar look and let out a hoarse laugh. Yae could've sworn it was a cry.
The inmate took a deep breath and put his hand on Erina's head over Kanon's.
"Worry about yourself." Sano said, patting her shoulder and quickly exited before either girl could say another word.
Once in the hallway, Sano took a deep breath.
"(What the hell is happening here?)" Sano thought as he took hold of his god-arc. A clunk busted Sano out of his thoughts as he looked to the soda machine. He saw the coattails of Kota's coat and didn't think much of it.
Until he heard a moan...
Aaaaaaaagggghhh!
"I can't believe I did that...I seriously just did that...Did I go too far?" Kota whispered. In full view, Sano saw him hanging his head low and supporting himself on the soda machine.
...
"Who put me in charge!?...should I take it back?" Kota though out loud.
"Kota." Sano said.
Kota saw Sano in the corner of his eye and half-raised his head back up.
"Oh hey. How's Erina?" he asked.
"Better than you." Sano said, bluntly.
"Is that right?" Kota said as sighed in grief.
"What are you thinking?" Sano asked.
"....Heard that huh?" Kota said, as he hung his head once again.
He took a deep breath and pushed himself off the soda machine.
"Do you think I was too rash? Just canning Erina, maybe I could've gone easier, I think I made a mistake..." Kota yammered.
"Kota." Sano said, firmly, stopping the Captain short of saying another word.
"If there was ever a time to treat Erina like a little sister, it was then and there. She got herself into this. Any leader knows actions have consequences. If you take it back now, you'll do more harm than good." Sano said, giving Kota his wolf-like gaze.
Kota scowled painfully. He was put in charge of Unit 1 not to just guide these new recruits, but to keep them in line. Erina could be relatively obedient, but she was reckless and headstrong. When she was out of bounds it was on him to kick her back in. On her ass, if he had to.
"On that note." Sano uttered.
Kota found himself under the clutches of Sano's grip and feeling his skull compress. Kota struggled and grunted under his strength.
"If I hear you're going back on your decisions again we're gonna have problems." Sano said as he glared at Kota.
Kota shook with fear, feeling the hostile intent. "Y-Yeah I get it! You're absurdly strong for a god-eater!" Kota squeaked out. Was his skull actually caving in!?, he thought.
"Is that right?" Sano said sardonically, as he let go of Kota's head.
Kota gave a sigh of relief. Sano pushed the panel on the elevator and to his surprise, the gate opened immediately.
"Don't make me remind you again." Sano said as the gate closed and the elevator departed to the upper levels.
"Sheesh man,.." Kota frowned and sat on the bench. But no more than a second went by as it turned into a smile and threw his head back in exhaustion.
As the elevator moved, Sano put both hands on his god-arc keeping it straight.
Have I been too generous today?, he thought.
He hadn't known anyone here for more than 2 days, but these people got a reaction out of him more times than Sano thought they could.
Maybe that shot in the head had a bigger effect than you thought?
Before Sano could process that thought the elevator gate opened and he realized his previous issue. How would he convince Sakaki to let him hold on to his god-arc?
Provided he wasn't screwing with him. When face to face with the door, an idea clicked to him. Peaking at his god-arcs core, Sano shrugged and knocked on the door.
"Come in." The director's voice echoed from the door.
Sano entered and found Sakaki sitting at his desk monitoring his monitors. On his left he found Licca tapping away on a tablet.
"Welcome back." Licca said as she put the device on the couch.
"Yes, hope the mission went well. Have you come to a proposal? I'm all ears." Paylor said with a mischievous smile.
"First of all...this is the Far East right?" Sano asked looking around Sakaki's office.
"Yes, we are the Far East branch, a branch like no other I should say." Sakaki said happily.
"What I'm proposing actually has 2 parts, and for the second I need more time." Sano said keeping eye contact with Sakaki.
"Ok, what exactly is your offer?" Paylor asked.
"The last known whereabouts of Daigo Ogumura." Sano said. The air pressure in the room suddenly dropped and became cold.
Licca became disgruntled as she clasped her hands together.
The atmosphere did a complete 180 around Sakaki. For the first time since he had met the man, Sano finally saw Sakaki's smile break.
Sano looked back at Licca in no better spirits, she kept her eyes to the floor.
"(Now I'm confused.)" Sano thought.
"How do you know that name?" Sakaki asked, almost startling Sano.
He raised a brow, Sakaki finally looked like he was taking him seriously. But now he was more confused as to what brought this change of attitude. Maybe this was...personal?
"We don't get the daily news in prison, but we get information. To this day Daigo Ogumura is still on the Fenrirs Most wanted, not just in the Far East" Sano said.
He was met with silence. Sakaki pressed his hands together in thought. His usual smile still gone. As he looked back at Licca Sano saw she wasn't going to say anything either.
What was going on here?
"Isn't he? Did you guys capture him already?" Sano asked, getting more suspicious of the two.
"No. He's still out there." Paylor said, deep in thought.
"Ok..that doesn't make you any happier. ...But telling you I can find him doesn't make you happy either." Sano said attempting to pry.
"Oh, it's fine, amazing in fact, provided you can deliver on it. But if we're going to talk about him..." Sakaki said, his smile still broken. He stood up from his seat and shut off the monitors. With a deep breath, Sakaki made his way to the door.
"We should talk it over some food. Why don't we all get dinner?" Paylor asked, his smile finally returning.
Sano and Licca raised a brow. This man was an unending inconsistency.
