In My Next Life I'll Win the Heart of the Male Lead

There's nothing wrong with Adelaide's life. There's nothing wrong with being cheated on. After all, half of marriages end in divorce and most end from infidelity. There's nothing wrong with getting addicted to an otome game. After all, everybody has something they're obsessed with. There's nothing wrong with reincarnating as the villainess instead of the heroine. After all, the villainess is richer and more powerful. There's nothing wrong with the villainess chasing after one of the love interests. After all, it's not like he's the canon route. There's nothing wrong with Ophelia's life.

The Sacrifice

A voice cuts through the din.

Lucas.

I turn my tear streaked face up toward him.

He's standing again, finally, but he looks like a light breeze would knock him over. He's pale. Sickly. He looks like he should be a ghost.

The Angel's Tear is in his hand.

"...Celeste explained magic to us a little bit ago but...the Angel's Tear ignores that." His gaze turns to me.

"Anyone is the most powerful wizard- no...mage. With the Angel's Tear, if you hold it, you're an arch-mage. Just holding it. If I realized that before...that's why Vesperian attacked you, to make..me panic. Used my weakness against me."

He murmurs, barely audible. His hand trembles and his skin grows even paler. "If it's active..."

His voice trails off and he wobbles on his feet.

My heart races. "...Lucas."

The crystal glows white. A pulse of light shoots through the room we're in and...my pain is gone.
