Vivian took a deep breath,
"Listen, I don't expect people to understand my pain. I am the one who lost a friend"
She spat angrily,
"I understand you are watching out for me but can you not overdo it"
"Alright, hands up. I won't make it obvious again." he said, raising his hands in surrender.
She turned and continued her journey to the kitchen.
Getting to the kitchen, she fixed some water on the electric burner.
"Please sit, let me make breakfast for us"
She said, gesturing for him to sit on the counter.
David did not wait for her to ask him twice and jumped on the counter to sit. It's not everyday that a beautiful lady would invite you to her kitchen, offer you a seat and still want to make breakfast for you.
"Thank you"
He muttered as he watched Vivian buzzed around in the kitchen. It warmed his heart to watch her. She is so beautiful. Her hair tied into a low ponytail, skin glowing and her waist hugging her nighties. There was a lot more than the beauty though. The aura she emanated was strong and confident. As if you could trust her with your life. David loved this vibe. This woman was truly someone to be trusted.
Vivian could feel his stares on her but she went about pretending he is not staring.
Within a few minutes, she made a toast from the freshly baked bread Alice made for her and brewed two mugs of hot chocolate for both of them. She set the breakfast beside him and joined him on the counter.
"Here"
She handed him a mug and took one, then picked one of the toast leaves and started eating.
"Thank you"
David said thankfully and he took a sip.
"This is delicious"
He complimented as he savored the taste.
"No problem. It's what neighbors do"
she responded with a small smile
She looked down and noticed how their hands brushed lightly against each other. She quickly removed hers from his grasp, making sure to avoid any contact between their fingers.
He seemed disappointed but decided to engage her in a conversation to take away the awkward moment between them.
"So Vivian, tell me about yourself"
He said and she frowned, what was she supposed to say?
"Well, I am Vivian and I have been living alone for 3 years. I don't keep many friends. I am 23 years old and my hobbies consist of singing and baking"
"That's quite a hobby"
David interrupted
"You are such a gentleman"
she commented amused
"Yeah, I guess it is but it's a nice hobby. I enjoy it and sometimes write songs. You may have heard of the song 'Love you" by John Mac?"
She questioned hopefully. David nodded and hummed in affirmation as he ate. His gaze focused intently on Vivian. His gaze was full of interest. She looked up from the mug she held in hand and faced him directly. They locked eyes. Vivian felt as if she is burning her. Their faces were only inches apart from each other.
David cleared his throat and looked away first "So...what else do you like doing aside from those hobbies you mentioned? Do you go dancing too?" He asked.
Vivian laughed softly,
"No, I don't dance. My father used to be a ballerina. But since he passed, I haven't been dancing in years"
"You don't' sound very happy about it"
"It's a hard subject, it hurts."
She admitted.
"I am sorry that I brought it up"
He apologized.
Vivian shook her head,
"it's alright, I guess I have just gotten too used to it.
There was a silence before she broke it
"Do you know who the baker girl is?"
She asked, changing the topic.
"You"
David amused, wondering why she would ask that.
"I am not the one, it's the new neighbor"
She replied with her set of teeth out.
"Oh, you mean Alice. She seems nice"
You think so?"
Vivian asked,
"Yeah. I think so"
David replied and dropped his mug then reached out to her. He wiped the reminisce of chocolate away from her mouth as his stares linger longer on her face.
He slowly brought his face to hers as their hearts accelerated. Their breaths became heavier and faster and their lips getting closer and closer. He closed his eyes waiting for maybe a sign
When neither of them moved. She raised her eyebrows at him confused. Is he serious? Or is he trying to mess with her?
