Chapter 9

MARCOS

I saw how Alex was following Gabriela with his eyes and she's leaving the campus. At that moment, I'm going to take the opportunity to talk to Alex about what I'm sure was happening to Gabriela. He had been looking where she had gone and as soon as he turned around, I'm already behind him looking in his direction. 

"I didn't do anything to her if that's what you think." he protested, raising his hands in the air "I didn't say anything like that, but okay." I replied seriously "So what are you doing here?" He asked "I come to talk to you." 

"About what? If it can be known." He said "It is a topic it interests you if what you say is true." I assured and Alex ends up frowning. "What are you talking about?" he asked "Gabriela, that's what I'm here to talk about." 

"I don't know what you want to talk about her, she doesn't like me and I don't think you either." He practically assured, but I wasn't so sure I didn't like him, unless he wasn't telling the truth he loved Gabriela "We'll find out that now." 

"And what do you want to talk about her?" he asked with curiosity evident in his voice "Is what you said true?" I asked directly "What did I say about what?" He returned the question "Mainly if you're in love with her, but you're going to leave the university so she can be the same as before." 

"Of course, I'm serious, especially the first part." he assured and internally I took a breath of relief "I wouldn't do it if I were you." I sincerely said "What?" he asked confused "Leaving college, but now do what you want." 

"Why do you say?" he asked with a frown. "Because I think Gabriela still has feelings for you." I said sincerely "You don't believe it. Sometimes I think she's in love with you." I couldn't help the snort that escaped me, but sometimes it bothered me people thought we were together. 

"Believe me, that's not the case, the one she always wanted was you, no one else but you, I can assure you." I confirmed "If what you say is true, why does she treat me the way she does?" he asked and I rolled my eyes "Because you hurt her so much Alex and that's not easily forgiven." 

"Then how come they said you were together?" he asked with a resentful tone "That's things people like your ex say, I suppose, we were never together, not in the way you thought we were together. I can't understand how you believed what everyone was saying." 

"I believed it because you were together all day, and you are a much better person than I am, that's why I believed she was with you. I never deserved her, much less after what I did to her." he said, and I knew he meant it. "And that's any reason to believe she was with me? It never crossed our minds to be together." 

"I don't know what went through my head, I'm just saying it would have been better if she was with you instead of being with me, she suffered and then I suffered." he assured "That's because you wanted to." 

"I know, I know. But then why do you say it's better I don't go?" he asked curiously "I think Gabriela still has feelings for you. I can't assure you one hundred percent, but I do know she still has feelings for you." I could see how hope was growing inside him, but I didn't want to give him too many hopes either. "Did she tell you?" 

"No, according to her she hates you." I assured "Then I don't understand how you think she's in love with me." He said with a sigh, "Because I know Gabriela better than anyone, maybe apart from her parents, but I know her and I know if you were someone else, she wouldn't have gotten as angry as she's doing with you." 

"Then her cruelty is what makes you think she still has feelings for me." he inquired and I nodded "One part, the other is she never says your name." I said "But that may be because she hates me." 

"No, she hates Paula and she says her name, instead when we talk about you, she always refers to it as him, since you left her, she never said your name." I assured, because it is something we had all realized and we avoided saying it in front of her "I did hurt her." 

"But you should know that by now. You hurt her too much and it's hard for her to make friends, more than before. At the beginning, it practically only had me and Carlota." I said, remembering after everything happened to Gabriela, "I never see her with you. Where is she?" he asked "She's not at this university if that's what you're worried about. But we are just as united always." 

"Not that I waited otherwise." he replied with a small smile on his face "I would ask you not to leave the university for her, I think it will affect her and if what you say is true, I don't think you want to see her suffer." 

"I don't want that and what I say is serious. I love her very much, even more than before, and that's why I would have liked her to be with you instead of me. I know with you she wouldn't have suffered and would be happy." He practically assured, and I denied, because we had never seen each other like this in the twenty-three years we'd known each other, "I love Gabriela, but not the way you think. It's like she's my sister. I can't see her like this, less be more than my sister." 

"Now can I ask you a question?" he asked and I nodded "How much has Gabriela suffered after I left her?" he inquired and I stopped short for a moment, not really knowing what to answer. "She did suffer, but neither I nor anyone else knows how serious it was." 

"I don't understand." he said confused "Her family only knows she suffered for you, but they don't know why. Then Carlota and I know why and something about what she felt, but she never talked about how she felt or anything to do with you, much less let us talk about it." 

"You were with her all summer." he said and I nodded "Of course we were, her parents would rather she talked with someone at nothing. She didn't get over everything from you leaving her, and I don't think she ever will." 

"I'm hopeful it will. In case she wants to have something with me again, I will take care of her and not let anything happen to her." he assured "That's better for you, because if you don't, we're going to have problems." I said sincerely. I didn't want to see Gabriela again like years ago "I won't. I will apologize for the rest of my life if necessary." 

"You better." I said seriously "So do you think I can have something with Gabriela? Even if it's just friendship, I'll settle for that." He assured "Surely yes, Gabriela isn't one of those people who holds a grudge all her life. She's just hurt from what you did to her and will take a while to heal. Now, I don't know if you realized she's not so... I don't know how to tell you, she's not as aggressive to put it in some way." 

"I think it's getting worse every time, but hey. You just have to see the blow she gave me yesterday." He said with a smile on his face "But that was because of the kiss you gave her; she didn't want at first." 

"At first? Did she tell you about that?" he asked and I denied "She didn't tell me anything, but I stop fighting to let go, that's another thing that tells me she has feelings for you." I replied "I noticed something similar to what I felt when she kissed me. When we were together." 

"What she feels hasn't changed, you just have to give her time to stop feeling what she feels right now. She has to throw everything out, all the pain, because if you come back, it will end your relationship forever. I don't think if you get your relationship back you don't want it to end before you can enjoy it. But you won't go, right?" I asked hopefully "If I have the slightest chance to get it back, I won't leave." 

"Well, I hope so because if that happens, then she will hate you, but really not like she does now." I assured him "I know, I know. But it won't happen. I'll be there for whatever you need." she replied and a smile formed on my face "Don't push her too much either, it's not good for her or for you to get her back." 

"Well, I'm leaving because when Gabriela sees me talking to you, she really kills me." I said laughing "I don't think she's capable of doing it, you're her best friend." He replied "Yes, she would, after what I told her before, she feels like doing it. Both me and you." 

"I can't believe that." He said, "Well, in this case, you can believe it." I assured, because I knew Gabriela would "Well, then you can leave before Gabriela sees you. Thanks for helping me with that." 

"You're welcome, it's the least I can do for Gabriela's happiness." At that moment I left, because it was true what Gabriela had told me she would kill me if I brought up the subject of Alex again, I don't imagine what she would do to me if she saw me talking to Alex, but at least he wasn't going to leave the university and that was what mattered to him, that would make Gabriela happy, I'm sure of it, even though she didn't see it right now.
