Chapter 55. Discovery

It felt like forever and she never reached the ground. She felt her body suspended in the air. Her screams died down after almost five seconds.

She calmed her mind and now felt exactly what was happening. A strong arm was supporting her at the back of her knees. Another was on her back.

The hand crossed over her left armpit and reached the right one. Her left hand was crossing over his neck amd holding him tightly.

She dared not think about the hand under her right armpit. But she felt it. Inches away from her breasts. All her panic disappeared and her cheeks turned crimson.

Also she realized that by wrapping her left hand on his neck so tightly her other breast was tight on his chest close to his heart. At the moment, she could hear her heartbeat.

Her heart raced and also she could feel his heartbeat increase. She slowly opened her eyes and looked at him. She did not know when he had passed her but she was glad he was there.

He had a playful smile on his face. What was funny? She did not know.

"Didn't I tell you not to let go?" He ridiculed her. How was she going to reply to that? She did not even know how it happened. She felt her cheeks burn with shame.

"One's real voice only comes out when they scream. I am glad to have heard yours," he teased but she felt embarrassed even more. She felt like a fool.

If he was not around, she would have probably landed safely on the ground even when she was falling. But when he was there, she lost all her desire to protect herself.

It was funny how she felt safe in the hands of a third stage of the Cryptic Plane. She did not even feel any fear of going out of the academy even when she knew that her life could be in danger.

She felt that nothing was impossible with him around and no ome was going to lay hands on her. Her embarassed features turned to a smile as she felt herself now calm.

"Put me down, pervert," she said teasingly. She remembered the first time they met she perceived him as a pervert. She saw his smile turn sour when he remembered also and this brought her utmost joy.

He let go of her knees as her feet touched the ground. Immediately she touched the ground she clung on his neck with both hands and raised her legs not to touch the ground.

This was accompanied with Alaric's laugh. At the moment, she did not care. She was not going to let her feet touch the cold water. No! He mind resounded a big no.

Even his laugh could not peturb her. She did not imagine how she could have landed on the water. Even if she did not fall, immediately she stepped on the water she would have climbed back up.

She did not care whether she was a water elementalist or not. Immediately she had stepped on the water, she felt like it was crawling on her skin. She did not expect it to be so cold.

"I wonder who the water elementalist is here," Alaric teased again.

" I am," she said proudly.

" It can't be that you are scared of the water, right?" He pressed on.

" Of course I am," she did not hesitate anymore. She was not going to let her pride be her downfall.

"You are going to walk on your own. You must get rid of your fear," he said.

Aurora felt herself shiver. He could not actually drop her right? But she knew that how she had clutched on him, no one would pull her hands apart.

"What do you plan to do?" She asked her voice with traces of fear.

"Will you step down on your own or shall we swim in the water together?" he did not change his tone.

" You are too mean," she snorted but he only laughed .

She stretched her right leg first and let it land on the water. The water was not that deep and it reached her ankle. She could fell its creeping effect accompanied by the darkness all around.

She finally stood on the ground but still did not let go of his neck.

"You having been chasing after my neck the whole day. You want us to walk this way?" Alaric teased again.

Aurora hurriedly let go of his neck as she looked away. It was dark and none of them was a fire elementalist. They cursed inwardly at Rey for not following his friends. But that was only Aurora's thoughts.

Alaric did not care if Rey was here or not. He was actually the one who made him not accompany them. Soon the darkness dissipated but it was just their pupils that accomodated the changes.

It just appeared slightly dark like mornings during day break. Though, they could not see more than ten meters from of them.

The tunnels were almost twenty meters wide but their length was unknown. They were also ten meters from the roof.

The walls were dump and there were molds and slime on them. The water was slightly green but they could not actually discern that. It just appeared dark. Aurora was zero centimeters away from Alaric.

Her right shoulder was reaching up to his left elbow and her head reached his biceps close to the shoulder. As they walked, she would go pushing him towards the right unconciuosly. He stopped suddenly and she had not stopped yet.

She tried to walk but he was like an insurmountable mountain. She realized that she was so lost in her thoughts that she was paying no attention to his actions. She stopped and saw his face was no longer as playful like before.

He had a serious look on his face. He was usually playful and the last time she saw this look on him when he was trying to create his first array. Once he learned their formation, it became like normal to him.

At the moment he appeared so mature. If only he always looked like this, no one would ever mistake him for a joker. He also appeared to be noble. His looks were not from this world. That she was sure of.

As she stared at his left ear, she noted something that no one ever noted. His ear appeared slightly pointed. Aurora usually read books about the martial history and also her mother told her stories. There was not a single being to exist that she did not know about.

There was only one race with pointed ears in the martial world, elves. Elves were known for their looks and how they were favoured by the universe. Elves had pointed ears their beauty was unmatched. Some elves later evolved and became immortals.

Immortals lost their pointed ears but their ears though like humans, they were slightly pointed. Alaric had these kind of ears. She had to confirm. It could not be that he was an immortal...

She hurried to his right and stared at his ear. It was exactly like the other. She felt her heart race. He was an immortal! That was undeniable proof. If he was an immortal, then he was actually of a higher status in the immortal realm.

She had heard from her mother that high immortals sometimes sent their talents to the martial world to cultivate. Alaric must be one of them.

Alaric did not understand why she was behaving like so. Was something wrong with his ears?

"Immortal," he heard her say after staring at his right ear. He felt alarmed as he shot a glance at her.

He covered her mouth with his hand and pushed her to the wall. She had a horrified look in her eyes. His eyes shone with a strange light. How had she known that he was an immortal?

"What did you say?" He asked. She let out muffled sounds and he realized that she could not speak.

He let go of her and stood infront of her, her body between his hands. Her eyes shone brightly with her discovery. She appeared very happy as she replied.

" Immortal! You are an immortal," she said happily like an alchemist who had discovered a cure to a certain aliment.

Alaric did not know whether to be happy or sad. If the world knew that he was an immortal, then the immortal realm would know about him and come after him. This only drove to rise his urge to grow stronger.

"How do you know? Have you been spying on me?" He asked. If she was, he was going to have to kill her.

"No. I found out on my own," she said.

" How?" He asked. He just confirmed to her that he was an immortal.

" You seem to not know of your identity and history. Immortal are descendants of elves. They evolved and became immortals. And lost their pointed ears.

" They have human like ears but they are usually pointed on their tip. You have never heard of that?" She asked.

"You should never tell anyone about this," Alaric said with a serious look.

"Why?" She asked. She was actually not going to tell anyone but she wanted to know his reason.

"You are not ready to know my identity. Knowing my identity will only bring you and your family trouble. I have to get stronger to protect averyone," Alaric said but the last words seemed to come deep from his heart.

"How would you impact my family?" She was now tensed up. An immortal on the run. A young immortal. "You are not..." Aurora was about to speak but she felt his hands on her mouth again.

"You dare say the word and you will be charged of blasphemy," he said, his eyes cold.

She slapped his hand away from her mouth. She knew almost all these things from her mom. Her mom, though she was the reason for her death at ten years old, never hid anything from her. She had told Aurora of the Immortal King. She always told her that she was part of the immortal kings requirements for his rise.

Her mom said that she was going to meet the Immortal King soon and that she was to follow him. He was a fallen king even before his birth.

" You are the one I should follow. My mom was always right. You really exist. She said that I should follow you after I found you," she said seriously but happy at the same time. It was like her dream come true.
