Imitation Mutation

[IM] was short for a deadly virus called Imitation Mutation that killed off 80% of the world's population in 2038 during the first few weeks. When the outbreak of the virus happened, countries border closed, safe zones and quarantine areas were established but they still couldn't manage to curb the virus. The virus [IM] was able to completely mutate and take control over a human's body. Turning them cannibalistic and brain dead along with making humans into monsters with insane strengths and powers that were created from the host's fears. These monsters were called mutates. However, the possibilities of [IM] mutating a human was 35%, which is a lower percentage of humans dying a few hours after contracting the disease. 0.4% of mutates can turn out to be a special case where the hosts still have complete control of themselves even after receiving the effects of the mutation. Zephyr was a special case of mutates that was being kept as a prisoner along with many others. To protect himself, he hid himself away in the void, hopelessly waiting for the day to break free. Finding himself a new 'home' to stay in, he attempts to neglect his past and fixate on the present. However, it seems like fate bears a strong hatred for Zephyr. Revenge, disgust and death followed him wherever he went.

Chapter 8

A loud piercing scream filled with agony and horror echoed through the hallways, startling Ray and Zephyr.

"Ethan?" Ray blurted when he had recognised the voice. Panic took over his body, his mind starting to fill up with dark thoughts.

Zephyr let out a small nervous sigh and walked to the direction of where he heard the scream coming from. He looked as if he could collapse at any given moment, his steps were unsteady along with his breathing.

Zephyr paused in his tracks and his mouth slowly twisted into a smile of disbelief. "Wicked." He murmured, his eyes not being able to digest the scene before him.

Dion Levisay was a 7 feet monster, the only thing recognizable about him was his ripped white lab coat on his oversized body and his eye colour. His hands held a young boy with red hair by the neck, choking him with the intention to kill.

"Ze-Zephyr!" the monster blurted out strangely, letting go of the boy in it's grasp. It's multiple eyes were twitching vigorously, as if tingling with joy.

The monster started running towards Zephyr, it's machine arm slowly changing into a long rope like item. The rope started wrapping around Zephyr's leg like a snake, slowly making it's way up to his waist.

The monster stopped and tilted it's head, staring down at Zephyr with it's many eyes. "You have a weird aura around you." It murmured in confusion before looking behind.

"Let's go, I need your help to change back, dear." It said in a sweet and tender voice despite it's terrifying appearance.

Suddenly, the monster's grip on Zephyr loosened before it's disgusting body fell on the ground with a large thud, slightly shaking the floor. It's multiple creepy eyes shutting close while it's body stopped moving.

"What happened?!" Ray was out of breath, however, he didn't care after seeing the monster unconscious beneath Zephyr's feet.

Before Ray could question Zephyr any further, the younger shut him down with a glare and a finger over his mouth, indicating for complete silence.

Zephyr stood up and limped over to Ray who looked as if he had went through something horrifying, his hands were still shaking vigorously from earlier while his face was soaked with sweat and tears.

"Don't you want to check..on your friends?" Zephyr suggested.

Ray steadied his breathing and calmed himself down, he turned his attention to his friends, despite knowing that they were all in critical conditions that he can't bear to accept. Once he saw their unconscious bodies, guilt struck him. He ran away like a coward while all his friends were getting plummeted straight to their death.

"Hang in there, please! I'm calling Damien and Anesthesia." Ray begged with desperation in both his words and actions, he started clicking his earpiece to activate the communication device. Speaking into the microphone but he started to burst into tears.

Sighing, Zephyr bended down and took possession of the microphone. "Come to the north wing, level 5." He said, not providing any further elaboration on the situation as he felt like it would be much better for them to see it first-hand.

Blaze was barely even recognizable, blood cloaked his entire body like a shield. Holes and wounds were leaking out blood like a waterfall, he seemed beyond saving at this point if no further actions are being taken out to reduce his injuries.

Connor and Kayden were crushed beneath the bricks, it looked extremely heavy and impossible to remove with the current amount of people. Their bones were probably crushed to fragments.

Ethan's forehead was bleeding, it looked as if he had been smashed on the wall multiple times. The skin on his hands were peeling off and his neck had a dark purple bruise. Compared to the others, he was in much better condition.

"He won't stay asleep for long.." Zephyr reminded to himself, picking up a sharp glass shard that was on the floor beside the broken window.

Ray stayed silent while he attempted to remove the large brick wall that was crushing Connor and Kayden. He looked extremely pitiful, so helpless and lost without his comrades.

A slash sound was heard while blood began to drip on the floor, Zephyr quickly walked over to Blaze and placed his wrist over the guy's mouth and forced it open.

"What are you doing?" Ray asked, concerned about the younger's suspicious actions that had not been explained with any reasoning at all.

Zephyr stayed silent while he continued feeding Blaze his blood from his wrist. His face was starting to turn pale but his ever so calm expression remained despite the dire situation.

Blaze wounds and holes were slowly being patched back up by newly grown flesh that was forming after a while. It looked like a temporary fix as the scars and marks still remained.

"You can heal?!" Ray shouted out loud in shock, if the power of this kid was healing, then he wasn't really worth the rescue at all.

Zephyr stared at Ray who looked like he was in distress and sighed softly. "I can't.. it's just some sort of body modification." He explained.

"What do you mean?" Ray pressured, moving closer.

"How are the others?! " Damien asked in a worried tone, rushing towards Ray.

Ray turned around and heaved a sigh of relief when he saw the reliable people he knew, seeing them still alive ease his thoughts. "Help me remove the brick.. Connor and Kayden are stuck under."

Brandon immediately got into position and used all his strength to lift up the large brick wall, his veins could be seen popping out of his muscular arms. Damien helped with lifting the brick and they both managed to successfully pushed it off to one side.

Claude looked away from the two bodies and slapped his hand over his mouth in order for him to restrain himself from letting out a disgusted sound. Their bodies were crushed from their chest to their toes. It was a horrendous sight to see.

Startled by the sudden arrival of people, Zephyr backed off a little and stopped his bleeding while placing Blaze in a more comfortable position. He didn't speak a word to them as they looked like they were all deep in thoughts.

Slowly, Damien came to his senses and acknowledged Zephyr's presence, forming a kind smile on his face as if nothing major had just happened. "I should be saying nice to meet you but now is not such a great time to do so. Can your power by any chance help my comrades, Zephyr? " He asked.

Zephyr hand's were twitching in pain but his face didn't show it. "I can only help this guy. The other three is out of my hands." He responded, glancing at Ethan who laid there lifelessly.

"What's your power?" Damien asked, bending down to Zephyr's eye level.

"Control." Zephyr murmured, not elaborating on what his power can do. He was making it rather obvious that he didn't want to talk about his power, his uncomfortable body language was apparent.

Damien gave a comforting smile to not pressure Zephyr any further, he stood up and turned to his teammates, making a disturbed facial expression as if he had already deciphered something disturbing about the boy.

"Can you..do anything in that condition right now?" Damien asked after realising that the kid was extremely pale and haggard, barely even standing up properly.

Zephyr slowly nodded and placed his hand on the wall to steady himself, "The monster is about to awaken. I suggest we meet up with your healer rather than having a confrontation with that thing." he pointed to the mutate who laid unconscious in the middle of the hallway.

Claude started whispering something to Damien and they both nodded, coming to a mutual agreement.

"We each will carry one member except for you, Zephyr. In the meanwhile, will you be able to guide us to the library in the South Wing?" Damien politely requested, starting to gently carry Blaze on his back.

"Right." Zephyr agreed, flicking dusts off his clothes and staring at the hallways, thinking about the fastest route to the designated location.

Feeling lightheaded, Zephyr wanted to pause and take a break but his resolve prevented him from coming apart at the seams. He made a promise to someone and he will fulfil it, even if he reached his limit.

Everybody came to a halt and a horrified expression formed on their faces. They were surrounded by guards and guns were pointing straight at them. The odds in escaping this treacherous situation was at an all time low.
