Heart

Her house was something like a Dark King's domain. It wasn't covered in black, but the way the servants respected her and the aloof air surrounding the house gave off a vibe he liked. It was like his Boss in many ways.

"Why does it seem... Cramped?"

"Yeah?" A corner of her eye raised.

"Yes, I don't know, there's something restricting about it." At that, a corner of her lips kicked up. Restriction of others was one thing she loved.

As she went up to her room to change, he asked someone the way to the kitchen. It was huge, like the whole house of a person averagely rich. As he wondered how he was going to cope walking from cubicle to cubicle, he noticed somebody with her back turned to him. From the way she was dressed, she wasn't high in status.

Normally, he didn't like to roam people's houses, but now, he didn't want to be served by servants, he wanted it to seem informal and there was obviously no way in hell she was making coffee. Since she couldn't shop, is it coffee she would know how to make? But this was different, he had no slightest idea where the tin of coffee was though he had searched a lot of places.

"Aren't you supposed to be helping?" Jasmine had appeared in the doorway and Waylen turned to see whom she was addressing. If it was him, what else was he to be doing? He didn't even have to be there.

But she was staring right past him. He turned his head to see who.

"I'm sorry." The maid from earlier.

"You're sorry." Jasmine's head tilted. "On what basis?"

She was in no way the weak trying to be strong girl he had carried in the car. Right now, she was the demanding woman she always was.

"On none, ma'am." That was a weird answer.

Jasmine stepped into the room and she looked very domineering. "I didn't create you to stand around leisurely and watch other people suffering."

Create? Waylen's brows creased. Whatever it meant, the scene wasn't very confident for an informal coffee.

"I'm sorry." Waylen realized the maid was strangely obedient.

Jasmine inhaled deeply, she looked rude right then. "For one thing, you know what you are, for another, you know another thing that you are." She snapped her fingers in the maid's face for her to be understood. "A servant. Now behave like one."

Waylen was shocked at her behaviour. So saucy and demanding. But the maid obediently turned to him.

"I could help you with what you're looking for. If I know it."

He forced himself to drag his eyes from the door.

"Is she always like that with you guys?"

For a moment, she smiled.

"She doesn't even step foot in the kitchen, this is the first time." Waylen's eyes got bigger than normal.

"Is that true?" She nodded. "How would you be sure? You don't stay in the kitchen 24/7." He dismissed it with a wave of the hand.

"I might not, but I know she has never come here before."

He looked down at her with narrowed eyes. "You sound so strange." Her head went to a side.

"Strange?" She asked - or repeated - with her brows drawn together and he nodded. "That is what sounds strange. I was programmed really well."

His brows shot up. "You're a robot?"

She giggled. "See? You didn't even know."

He now realized why she was so obedient, she didn't have feelings, but he wanted to confirm.

"You don't feel bad about how she talks to you?"

Amelia's smile turned motherly. "Others might, but I don't. I've been with her since she was little and even if I can detect feelings, without it, I can know that she is trying to cover-up for her weakness by being rude. Because she's like my child."

Waylen nodded his understanding. "Just provide everything and I'll be fine alone."

When Amelia went, Waylen was amazed at how a robot could know all those without having the proper facility to. A heart. But maybe, someone must not have a heart to do good things, will was the only thing needed.

He didn't see a lot of people as he walked out of the kitchen and it was pretty easy finding her, she had her back to him staring out of a glass wall.

"Coffee." She turned just slightly for him to see her nod. He noticed it was because she wasn't wearing anything that hid her face so she might not want him to see her. In as much as he tried not to defy her wants, he couldn't help himself from trying to get a better view of her face in the glass. Just as his eyes was about to trail down, he looked by some mistake and saw that her eyes were fixed steadily on him.

"Don't blame me for being curious." He pouted then he bent to pour her a cup. "How much sugar?"

She just stretched out her hand and he handed it to her.

"Where did everyone go to?" The place was close to scanty with only the butler, Amelia and few other people roaming it.

"I thought you didn't like the much people."

His eyes went up to the ceiling. "Yeah, but it seems creepy to be alone in somewhere so big."

"You're not alone." She brought up the cup to her lip and when it poured into her mouth, the burn soothed her slightly frozen body.

"You don't count as a person."

"Is that so?"

"Mhmm." She flung her hair to one side in a quick movement and parts of her hair came flying to rest on the other side.

"Be careful, I'm no doctor, but I know hair isn't good to be swallowed."

"Common sense." She shrugged.

He crossed a leg on the other and his eyes feasted on the beautiful display of nature.

"How'd you get this place before all the others?"

She whipped the hair that had fallen to her neck to the back, allowing him to catch a glimpse of her pretty lips as it opened. "They were too stupid not to." Such bad words said by the lips he could see. It even sounded unethical to be coming from them.

"Appreciate people sometimes. If they found it, you wouldn't have had it by now."

A side of her face turned to him. "Sometimes, it's better to find things before someone else does. It might take away the badluck meant to be faced in future." If only he could add it to the other side, he would get her face, but it was too brief a turn for him to take good notice of it. And why did her words seem so filled with self-reproach? It sounded like she was talking about herself. Like something similar had happened to her, he wished to ask, even though he couldn't and just then, his phone rang. It was Dylan.

"You get back here right now!" Before he could form a complete word, the call ended.

Waylen sighed, at least he was done with coffee. And spent an actually... Fun... Time with her.

"You gotta go?" Her expression had softened considerately.

"You know it."

She walked ahead of him as they headed to the door. Probably because, she didn't want him to turn and see her face. Why was she even hiding her face? Other people would want to be recognized anywhere they went, but her, everything about her was different.

Only when they got to the door did she step aside and let him go outside, but he could see some part of her face.

"You're fun to be with."

He smiled cheekily at her. "But one question." Her brow raised. "What you said earlier - about someone getting something before another - was that about your experience?" That was a dare question.

But she didn't seem offended as she stepped into his full view. "It was. Now, a little part of you is involved."

He felt something lethal crawl up his spine and into his veins, an energy he couldn't point, one filled with anguish and despair and undeterred... Before the door shut in his face, he didn't find out what it was.
