Chapter 50: Duke Townshend's Family

"Father, Mother, and Frederick, thank you for coming to pick up Lucian."

"Grandfather, Grandmother, Uncle, thank you very much."

Lucian seems very mature for a nine-year-old. Must be the result of noble education.

I might be nine years old, but my mind is that of an adult.

"Lucian, it's only natural for us to come and pick you up. If anything happens, it would be troublesome for you."

Richard tried to regain his dignity with those words, but his face was too relaxed to be imposing.

It's not that he's being affectionate just because Lucian is a young child; it's because he's his grandchild.

I've always thought that the Duke Townshend family has a quite harmonious relationship compared to other nobles. My impression of nobles was that they had tumultuous family relationships, but this family feels different.

I was quite lucky to meet Frederick and Marcel initially. Otherwise, I might have been used or even imprisoned by someone else.

...Thinking about it like that is scary! I'm really glad things turned out well.

"I've been looking forward to attending the Royal School! I'm excited for the sword lessons."

"I see, Lucian enjoys swords. It's good to hone your sword skills; it will be useful for self-defense. Keep up the good work."

"Yes!"

Lucian's eyes shine with excitement. I thought he seemed strong, and it turns out he loves swords. He has a solid build for a nine-year-old.

Speaking of sword lessons... I'm looking forward to them too! I can't use body strengthening since I have to keep all attributes hidden, but I'll work on the basics first. It's better to have more attack options, and magic isn't very suitable for close combat.

"Leon, you'll be enrolling in the Royal School at the same age, right?"

Lucian suddenly asks me.

"Yes, that's right. Nice to meet you."

I bow my head as I say that, and Lucian's eyes sparkle.

"You're my first friend who's the same age. Leon, let's be friends from now on!"

Lucian says with a smile. I didn't expect him to be this friendly. He must have heard that I'm a commoner. The Duke Townshend family is remarkable, and I'm grateful for that.

"Nice to meet you too."

I reply with a smile. Then Lucian looks around and asks Christoph in a low voice.

"Father, can I talk about Leon's abilities here?"

"I suppose... Everyone, could you step back a bit?"

After some hesitation, Christoph tells all the servants to step back, and they move to the corridor.

"Lucian, you can talk here. We'll ensure the servants don't overhear."

"Understood."

Lucian talks to Christoph and then turns back to me.

"Leon, you can use all attributes of magic, right? Can you show me some magic? I'm a fire attribute and want to improve my magic skills."

Lucian seems to know that I can use all attributes of magic. I'm slightly surprised, and Richard provides some additional information.

"We initially thought of keeping it a secret from the children, but Steffen and Martine found out. Since you'll be spending time together at the Royal School, we decided to tell Lucian too."

Indeed, Martine seemed to know, but even Steffen? Well, it's better if someone knows; it puts my mind at ease.

"I see. Lucian, if you want, I can teach you magic and show you some."

"Really!? Thank you, Leon!"

Lucian is such a great kid. I'm glad we're becoming friends.

"Leon, if possible, could you show us all the attributes of magic right here? I've heard about it in a letter from my father, but I'd like to see it myself."

Christoph asks me to demonstrate. It's understandable; it's hard to believe without seeing it firsthand.

"Sure. It's okay to use magic. Now, let's start with fire magic."

Then, I used magic in the following order: fire, water, wind, earth, and finally healing.

"For the last one, it's healing magic. If anyone has injuries, I can treat them, but I can also use magic to examine if there are any illnesses. Would you like me to check everyone's condition?"

Since then, I've been practicing recovery magic every day, pushing my magical power to its limit. I can now accurately determine physical ailments and their causes. I've practiced with my family and Martine, so my skills have greatly improved.

I can now cover my whole body with less magical power, and I can even detect non-viral causes of headaches and stomachaches.

However, I can remove viruses, pathogens, and malignant cells, but I can't cure regular headaches. If the stomachache is due to something they ate, I can remove it, but I can't treat psychosomatic stomachaches. Well, there are limits to what magic can do.

"That would be great! Can you do it for everyone here?"

"Yes. Using magic to heal requires more power, but examining doesn't consume as much."

"Then, please do it."

"Okay. Who should I start with?"

"Let's start with my father."

"Understood."

I went to Lord Richard and covered him with healing magic.

"Hmm... There seems to be a small tumor in the lower abdomen. Could it be a malignant tumor? Probably, since I can only sense malignant ones."

It's still quite small, but it's good to notice it early. It shouldn't take much magical power to heal it at this stage.

As I fell silent, Richard seemed concerned and looked at me.

"Leon, is something wrong?"

"Ah, sorry. There seems to be a small abnormality in your lower abdomen. Can I heal it now?"

Upon hearing that, Richard looked surprised.

"But I feel fine..."

"It doesn't seem to be affecting your health significantly. I can easily heal it now if you'd like."

I reassured Richard with a smile, and he seemed relieved.

"I see. It's good that you noticed. I'll leave it to you."

"Sure. Let's do it."

I gathered magic in his lower abdomen and infused a slightly stronger flow of magic. The healing magic glowed brighter and the abnormality disappeared.

"That should do it."

"Leon, thank you. I seem to rely on your help a lot. I'll have to repay you in the future."

Richard said with a smile, and I responded with a smile as well.

"You and the Duke's family have been very kind to me. It's only natural to help. Next, shall we check on Lady Catherine?"

I then examined Lady Catherine, Frederick, and found nothing wrong, so I turned to Christoph. They seemed astonished for some reason.

"Huh? What's wrong?"

"Um, what happened?"

"Oh, sorry. Did my healing cure your father's illness? I'm surprised it worked so easily."

Ah, maybe it's because they saw me heal for the first time. But I don't think there's any visible change in Richard's appearance.

"Well, it might not be easy to notice with Lord Richard since there's no visible change..."

"Ah, but the magic emitted a very sacred light."

Sacred light? It's just regular magic, isn't it?

Well, never mind, as long as they're impressed.

"Shall we proceed with Christoph next?"

"Yes, please."

After examining Christoph, Sofia, Lucian, and Albert, I found no issues.

"Everyone seems to be healthy. If anyone experiences health problems, please let me know."

"Leon, thank you. It's very reassuring to have you around."

"I feel relieved too. Thank you."

"If it made you happy, then I'm glad."

After chatting for a while, we were led to our rooms. We rested for a bit and then had dinner. I wonder if they'll serve seafood? I'm looking forward to it!
