"We only met a couple of times," she replied. "Thrice," she corrected immediately, recalling their first meeting at the café. "But we only talked during our two encounters. He's good company, and I noticed that he liked me, so I didn't want to ruin the fun by telling him I am his cousin's new wife."
Evan's eyes darkened. He grabbed Allie's elbow, his hand sliding down to her waist. Allie disliked being touched by Evan like this, but she couldn't openly show her displeasure. She had signed up for this charade, after all, and felt it was only right to take responsibility for it.
"That night when I found you at a downtown bar, you were with him?" he guessed. Allie didn't have to answer. The glint in her eyes confirmed it for him.
