The Affinity Test

The examiner was shocked. In his whole life, this was the first time he witnesses a person that could conjure not three but four spells of different elements in one casting. The best were dual-casting and those are already treated as the empire's living treasures. The unprecedented appearance of quadra-casting will either cause peace or dilemma throughout the empire.

"Holy cow. Is he a genius that comes once in a millennium?"

"No, that can't be. There's no way an offspring of nobility will be found in this remote area of the continent."

Nobility --- those families that reign atop of the society. Empire's living treasures are people born with blue blood.

"Let's move on to the next test."

"For this test, you will be given two minutes."

"You can use your own weapon but if you don't have, there are spare weapons here that you can use."

Jae-ki doesn't have his own weapon so he borrows a bow and wooden arrows.

"Oh, I almost forgot. You will be given a minute to prepare yourself."

[Advanced owl's sight] This skill enables the user to increase his dexterity. A must-have skill to be able to utilize multiple arrows at once.

The examiner grins as he rubs his chin with his thumb and index finger.

"No, let's calm down and avoid jumping to conclusions."

Despite being amazed by Jae-ki's performance so far, the examiner is still in doubt.

"How does he plan to take down those dummies with a bow and wooden arrows though?"

"Are you ready sir?"

"Yes."

"Two minutes, the second test."

"Begin!"

Jae-ki took 3 arrows and simultaneously shoot the dummies. He successfully shoots all dummies.

However, the test should be "to take down the dummies".

Still, it was laudable that he was able to accurately hit 50 dummies within a short span of time.

"Is that it?"

"What... He wasn't even able to take down a single dummy. " He frowns.

"Can we now proceed to the last test?"

"But sir, the test should be to take down----"

The examiner was cut in by the explosion. Surprisingly, the 50 dummies burst at the same time.

"How about now?"

"Y-yes sir... let's... m-move on the last test.."

B-but how did he? The examiner wondered in total confusion. The examiner thought.

The reason why Jae-ki picks wooden arrows over the metal ones is sole because the wooden arrows are "combustible". As he fires the arrows, he constantly builds up heat and pressure within the arrows by manipulating mana. This results in an explosion.

"P-please place your hand on this monolith and insert 25% of your mana."

The examiner wasn't able to hide the chills all over his body. He even stutters while talking.

"O-okay..."

The feeling of amazement was immediately replaced by confusion and disappointment.

"Please add another 25% of your mana reserve."

Jae-ki focuses and inserted mana for the second time.

"This must be broken right?"

He started checking the whole monolith for any problems. Knowing the monolith shows no flaws, he then heads to the registrar administrant's whereabouts.

"Mhmm... The monolith is in perfect condition, the result is fixed and finite."

The registrar administrant left his word and immediately goes out of the room.

"What does it mean??"

No signs of elemental affinities were formed within the crystal monolith. It is said that a person will have at least one elemental affinity in his life.

"Even beggars have at least one elemental affinity."

"I am very sorry about this, but you have no affinity."

"What? I have no affinity?"

"Yes, that's right."

"So am I instantly disqualified for the application?"

Jae-ki steps out of the room with a long face. Though he was not surprised, he do not want to disappoint his Aunt Jang either.

"Ei, What happened? Did the evaluation goes wrong?"

"Mhmm." Jae-ki shakes his head sideways.

"How about you? Did everyone in this room had congratulated you for having dual affinity already?"

"Hahaha. Joking with me right now?"

"Anyway, do you have a place to stay?"

"Not yet. I am planning to find an inn to stay in."

"How about you stay at our house?"

The two can be heard chattering as they walk out of the building.

"Director, have you seen it?"

"I've seen everything from the start."

The director replied to the registrar administrant. The director gets up from his chair and faces the outside from his wall made of glass. He found Jae-ki on sight and followed him with his look.

"Rania, fill me with every information that you can get about that boy. Even his great great grandfather's name if possible.

"Right away sir."

"Sir, about the boy's evaluation, a-"

"No need."

He activated his magenta's vision, a skill that

After staring at Jae-ki for a minute in an attempt to see his mana core level, he gives up and turned off his magenta's vision.

"Pass him."

"But sir, we have no intel regarding a person with no elemental aptitude nor the whole empire."

The registrar administrant insisted.

"Mister Meyson, either you will follow my order or beat me in a duel so you can be the director."

The director exudes a suffocating aura all over the place that even from far, Jae-ki has to turn his head around as he notices the aura.

"What is it?" Hoon asked.

"Nothing, just thought I heard someone asking for my attention."

Jae-ki said as he turned around and started walking leaving Hoon behind.

"What up with you?"

"Hey wait!"

"I wouldn't d-dare to challenge you, sir, I will pass him right away."

Admin Meyson leaves upon the signal of the director. His hands were trembling.

The director continuously stares at Jae-ki's back as he and Hoon walk away.

Admitting him is the only way to know if he's an asset or a liability.
