Chapter 64: Forgotten Guardian

The light of dawn spread across the frost-laden plain, a fragile yet beautiful symbol of the peace we had momentarily secured. The Heartseed in my hands pulsed faintly, its glow warm and soothing but laced with a subtle undercurrent of tension, as if it too knew that our respite would not last. 

Silvermane crouched by her wolves, tending to the wounds they'd sustained during the battle. Her hands moved deftly, her touch gentle despite her sharp, no-nonsense demeanor. Ember stood nearby, her flames flickering lazily as she surveyed the distant horizon, her expression unusually somber. 

Dren, ever stoic, cleaned his blade with precise movements. Despite his calm exterior, I could sense the unease radiating from him. 

"We did it," I said, breaking the silence. "We stopped the Heart of the Corruption." 

"For now," Silvermane corrected, her voice soft yet firm. "The balance may be restored, but balance is a fleeting thing."
