Chapter 18 – Zane

Third person POV

"Why did you do that?" Zeke's grandfather, an Undead dragon sage named Zane, asked for an explanation.

"We need you for something," Zeke responded back.

  "What is it?"

  "To open a magical door."

  "What magical door?"

Zeke then gave out a brief description of it, including where it was found.

"Wow, they seemed to be in good terms," Lloyd commented.

"If I remembered correctly," Sati responded, "they are. In fact, his grandfather is a dragon sage who was said to have destroyed and burned an entire town."

This surprises the young leader a lot. "Woah, is that for real?"

  "Yes, Lloyd-sama," Sati responded.

After Zeke explained everything, Zane agreed to help his grandson. He then looked at Lloyd and the others.

"Oh, you looked like a human," he said to Lloyd directly.

"Uh, yes, I am a human," Lloyd responded back. "I see."

Then, Zeke intervened. "Grandpa, he's our village chieftain."

This moderately surprise the old, Undead dragon sage. "Why would you make a human your village chieftain?"

"Well, it's actually my idea." Sati came forward.

Zane then looked at him. "Why?"

"We hunted him for food," Sati explained, "and after that, we regretted it and decided to save him. Now, I gave my position as leader to him, and he's now our village chieftain."

Zane gets what Sati had said.

"So, you guys no longer hunt humans since then?" he asked.

Lloyd then came forward. "Yes, and we are now a civilized, united country, but with some autonomy."

"Oh." Zane stands up from his deathbed. "But you looked so young. What's your name and age, human?"

"My name is Lloyd Lewole, formerly Nate Wole," Lloyd responded back. "I'm 15 years old. Nice to meet you, sir."

"I'm Zane, a dragon sage." Zane laughed. "I knew you're young. My grandson is only 14 when I died."

"Oh, so that means," Lloyd replied while thinking in calculating, "Zeke is now 24 this year?"

"Yes, exactly, master," Zeke replied back.

And so, all of them left the chamber and the mine together and back to Lewole on foot.

Along the way, Sati and Zeke explained to Zane about Lloyd's sad childhood and exile. Zane was shocked to find out that humans can be that selfish. "Wow, they're so bad."

"Yeah, but I'm now okay," Lloyd responded. "I adopted a new identity. Nowadays, I usually help out and do administrative work."

"I see, such a responsible human." Lloyd then smiled at him.

After that, Lloyd asked Zane about the rumored town raid.

"That was false," Zane revealed what actually happened. "I only raided a small village, not a town."

"Oh, so that's the truth," Lloyd replied back.

"Yes, it was." Zeke chimed in.
