14. The Inevitable?

'Damn.'

Nich cursed, walking in the silence of night.

His hand was hurting, from his wrist up to his bicep.

'It was like punching a wall... However that feels.'

It cannot feel worse than this.

he had decided to end his stroll and return to his home, as he had unintentionally achieved what he came here for.

In that strike, Nich did not hold back even a little, so he now had a rough idea.

It was nowhere near as strong as in the 'trial' but Nich suspected that when he the power was not his, to being with, in the trial it. felt like he borrowed it, from something.

So maybe when he reaches the SSS rank, he will gain control over that same power.

'It's all speculation.'

Nich walked, while he stretched his right arm, trying to feel if there was anything wrong.

The pain was gradually subsiding, fading away with each step he took.

Recovery was one of perks of being an interior as well.

'So many questions, yet no answers.'

Nich thought for a second, and then the 'system window' appeared infront of him.

Feeling intrigued, Nich focused his attention on the 'Skill' that was showen infront of him.

Sense of life.

Nich thought, then realized that the small, almost negligible particals he was sensing.

'but i can sense it for a while now.'

Nich last opened the system window two days ago, and saw no change.

Nich reached his home, then skillfully glided through the wall of his backyard, with slow and quite steps he reached towards his house.

Reaching his room, Nich sat down in a lotus position, trying to sense the life energy.

*inhale*

*exhale*

Soon, his breath fell into a rythm, while his heart beat slowed down, it was almost as if he was sleeping.

Then, faint lights emerged envelopimg the room, like tiny little fireflies, and flowed towards Nich.

The small fireflies entered his body, instantly he felt much better, and rejuvenated like he just went through a full body massage.

"This is definitely better than before."

Nich exclaimed, in a relaxed tone, feeling quite refreshed.

The pain from that hit was now gone, and his body felt better than ever.

But why did he gain this skill?

Nich thought, even a speculation will suffice as long he is not left with more questions to wonder about.

'Let's see.'

Maybe, the skill did mention that through hard work he was able to acquire it, so that will mean that it was like a breakthrough.

'Makes sense!'

Nich decided to dismiss the thought, not having enough brain power to think about it.

'I deserve a break.'

Feeling entitled, Nich lept on his soft bed, sleeping almost instantaneously.

'This... Is peculiar.'

Nich thought, standing on the mystic plain, as the system had named it.

When he entered his dreams, and found himself in the standing on the boundless darkness, he was about to close his eyes, when a message appeared in front of his eyes.

There was a quest, like how there is in video games, Nich was excited to see that the stale, almost dead-beat system, was now finally moving, showing him the way.

[Quest details: the world, has many ways, some righteous and great while others are dark and disturbing, you will have to decide wether the path you walk will lead to rise or ruins, no choice is wrong or right, as they all only lead to the inevitable.]

[Quest rewards: being eligible to challenge a random trial.]

Nich went from being excited to slightly spooked to the end.

'Lead to the inevitable?'

That sounded ominous.

For a moment he was worried that there was indeed a evil spirit trying to take control of him.

'No... Let's be rational.'

'It's not like ghost exists, right?'

Nich felt as though the system window flashed a little, but then he shook his head.

'Let's focus on what's important.'

There is a system window in front of him, which displays a reward.

The contex of the the quest was not nearly enough to give him an idea about what he was suppose to do. There was no time limit as well.

As for the reward... Let's just say he had mixied feelings regarding that.

Being able to control another element like, fire for example would certainly be cool, but if the difficulty was same as before, he would be thrown in a lake of lava.

At that moment, there was a sharp sound, near his ears waking him up from his sleep.

Nich opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was the ceiling, the second was the window where the sun was slowly rising and third the clock that hung on the wall.

It's morning already.
