Chapter 1: The awakening of the skill

A self-satisfied grin graced my face while a video pretending to be a Windows Update played on my computer. It was my little play to keep away all the pushy colleagues who didn't understand that it was just a fake representation. Those who didn't fall for the trick probably felt just as clever showing it off to their colleagues.

Finally, I was able to use my time to defeat some monsters in the mobile game world of Absorber. I loved the game, even though it was way too short in my opinion and I had already played through it several times.

"Hey Tim, it seems you didn't get the mail," chuckled Mark, who surely knew that daily updates were not the norm. Mark was fine, he was an IT fellow, just like me, however he was a "Fi-Si" - our german term for a systems integration specialist.

As I strolled down the hallway, I noticed a strange icon at the edge of my field of vision. It was a small, glowing icon that pushed its way unobtrusively into my field of vision. It resembled the icons on my screen, but seemed real.

An unusual shiver ran down my spine as I inspected it more closely. How fantastic it would be if I could interact with my apparent hallucinations. It was almost frustrating that they existed only in my imagination.

Finally, I took a seat in the conference room while the boss presented, with obvious enthusiasm, a new idea that was just impossible.

However, my thoughts kept drifting to the enigmatic icon. It felt like it was calling to me, like it was awakening some hidden aspect within me.

In a moment of curiosity, I turned my gaze back to the icon and suddenly a freaking bright pop-up opened up. It was so flashy and eye-catching that it was impossible to miss.

["Congratulations!"]

the pop-up announced in brilliantly glowing letters.

["You have met the requirements and unlocked the skill 'Dimensional Travel' at level 1."]

I was speechless. A real skill! A skill that I could activate and use!

Euphoria and excitement completely filled me. It felt like I had entered a new, unlimited world. Without hesitation, I stretched out my arm and shouted with overwhelmed joy,

["Skill: Activate Dimensional Travel!"]
