Queen Monica paused from tending to her flowers, a flash of anger crossing her eyes.
"Caesar dares speak like that?" Monica coldly snorted. "He came begging me for an alliance, and now he has the audacity to insult my son!"
"Does he really want a war?"
As the queen of the Scarlet Aegis Empire, Monica held absolute authority. Wherever she went, she was treated with the utmost respect. To her, Constantine was an excellent heir—aside from the occasional harmless prank. Sending him to negotiate with the Azul Kingdom was part of grooming him for his eventual ascension to the throne.
"Caesar will owe me an explanation," Monica said, her expression darkening. "Does the Scarlet Aegis Empire fear the Azul Kingdom?"
"Your Majesty," her chief lady-in-waiting interjected, "please do not be angry. Perhaps there's been a misunderstanding."
