Bitten

The door behind them was already closed and secured. They are safe for now. They didn't know for how long... or will they be able to make it out alive. It is dangerous outside. The only way to get out of this is through the main door. However, the bitten was outside and there were few of them. Although they can fight with it, they can't rush things and risk everything. As per calculation, before they can reach the main door or even go down, they will already be dead. For sure there are as many as they can't count out there.

Yutong stands beside the edge while Mexiao is at the small wooden bench. They were already half an hour in that position. Han Suyin stays beside the door to guard up. It was so hot as it was still lunch hour.

"I can't do this! We need a plan!" Yutong sat beside him. He was panicking.

Suyin looked at him lazily.

"The plan is to wait here." he said.

"What? No. We should get out of here. I don't want to die in starvation."

"Yes, we won't die from starvation. But are you really sure we can get out of here? Alive? There were lots of them outside. Not only in this building."

Suyin was so hopeless. Although they were at the top of the building, it does not hinder them from hearing the screams down there. From the rooftop, they can see cars crushes and accidents. It was all a mess.

Silence.

Yutong sighed in disapproval. He will say it or not but Suyin got the point. If he gets out because he doesn't want to starve... then he will become the food of those filthy creatures. And that's the least thing he'll let to happen.

"Then we need a plan..." he shortly said before he went to his previous position. From there, he can see their current situation. It's as if wherever they go, it is a dead-end. A stampede. But he believes that there is still a place outside that is safe to live and go.

But for now, they shall start to plan how to escape!

It was so early when Mexiao woke up. She's now hungry and weak. Since lunchtime until now, she has not eaten yet. She did not even noticed that she fall asleep while thinking what just happened.

"You're awake."

Suyin noticed the girl rose from its position. Although she did not give him a glance, he didn't mind it as Yutong sat beside him and started talking about things.

"Guys, here!" Mexiao called them.

While the two guys are busy talking with each other, she scans the place to see if there is a way to escape. She did not notice that her feet led her to the other side. At first, she thought it was just a normal water tower but after a minute of checking, she noticed the escape stairs beside it. It goes around to each floor all the way down. The hope arose inside her and she called them.

"We should go now," it was the guy earlier. The one she met at the staircase.

"No, wait!" she pulled him.

"We can't rush things! We need to figure it out first if it is safe down there. And besides, there were only three of us. We need to help and protect each other."

"Then, what's the plan?"

They looked both at Suyin who was spacing-out since earlier. He did not think of it beforehand but he now started to worry about his family. His mother and sister. Their whereabouts and if they were alright.

"We need to go down as soon as possible." he decided. They can't waste no time. He needs to go and check if his family was safe!

Well, maybe that's the plan, yes. But the situation was a bit off. Even though they already grasp the way to escape, they can't just go without a plan. Mexiao objected to their irrational thoughts and left them. It was their cue to end it there for a moment and followed her.

"Hey," Suyin called her attention.

"Mexiao."

"What?"

Mexiao faced him. Her eyes were cold and its face was stiff.

"My name is Mexiao."

"Oh... yeah.. yes, Mexiao. I'm Suyin. Han Suyin." he introduces himself. He extended his arm for formality but the latter just stared at it. He slowly pulled it back.

He coughed fakely.

"Do you have a phone?" he asked out of nowhere. Mexiao brows met because of confusion.

"What do you mean?"

"Just like what you said earlier, we need a plan. But I know it takes time to make and I can't just wait here and do nothing. I'm worried about my family and I need to call them now. I need to know if they are safe."

"The more reason we should go now." Yutong interjected their conversation

She stared at him for a moment before answering Suyin.

"I.... lost it."

"Why don't we just go now, guys? I think it will rain later."

The three of them looked up the sky. It was gloomy and dark. For an hour, it will start to rain.

"Then be ready. We need to go quickly."

"What? no plan?" It was Mexiao, got shocked by Suyin's sudden decision. She is still not convinced to go without a plan.

"No plan." Suyin firmly said. Both him and Yutong get ready.

Mexiao disagreed with their impulsive behavior. Because this only means that there is no certainty if they can survive! And if so, what's next? She followed them through the staircase.

"You almost agreed with me. You can't do this! What about we wait for a minute while we make a plan. We don't even know where to go or what place is safe! You guys are just impulsive!"

She screamed out of her lungs. She was annoyed with them. They are being uncalculated. They did not even know which way is safe to go. And on top of that, it was just a rain. They won't die with it.

"It's just a rain!"

"It's not just all about rain, Mexiao! It's a matter of safety and security. About my family... no... our family's situation! We don't know if they are alright or still alive... or a human. I have to go to them!"

"You are all petty!" she left them there.

All her life, she was always calculated about her decision. After all, it's her job. But right now, she doesn't know anymore. Who's being petty and... naive.

Minutes had passed and she did not see them. It started to thunder but still no rain. Only that, the door starts to make a noise and in any minute it will collapse!
