Chapter 10: Mother X Test

"What a frightening little devil."

As Noah figured out the joints of this situation, he felt his scalp tingling.

"Continue talking, why did you stop? How did your Nen ability awaken?" Illumi urged impatiently when he noticed Noah had paused.

Say what? I don't want to die!

At this point, Noah had already made up his mind not to give Illumi any information about his Nen ability.

"Haha, Young Master Illumi, this Nen ability, it can only awaken at a certain age. You're still young, and in a few more years, with your talent, awakening a Nen ability won't be a big deal." However, Noah had to play it safe. In front of him was the eldest son of the Zoldyck Family, even if he was still a child, Noah was starting to feel a bit wary, especially considering Illumi's potential growth in the future. He didn't want Illumi to hold a grudge against him for this.

Raising an eyebrow, Illumi displayed an unexpected look on his face, which seemed somewhat adorable.

"Oh? Is it because of my age?"

"Yes, Young Master Illumi, this is what I heard from a very skilled Nen user back then. It's absolutely true." Noah nodded quickly.

After hearing Noah's words, Illumi lowered his head and muttered, "I see, so they didn't teach me because of my age."

No matter how extraordinary you are, you're just a kid now. You believe me so easily when I'm just making things up. Besides, what I said isn't entirely false. Learning Nen abilities at your age isn't a good idea for you, and it's certainly not a good idea for me either. If you want to learn Nen abilities, wait a few years and learn from your family.

Seeing that Illumi believed his words, Noah couldn't help but smile smugly.

"You didn't lie to me, did you?" Just then, Illumi suddenly raised his head, his eyes fixed firmly on Noah's.

Under Illumi's intense gaze, Noah's heart trembled, but he didn't falter in his speech. "Of course not, Young Master Illumi. If you don't believe me, you can go ask Mr. Gatoh."

As he spoke, Noah's eyes remained locked onto Illumi's.

After staring at Noah for a while, Illumi finally averted his gaze. He turned away and muttered, "Boring." Then, he disappeared from Noah's sight.

After Illumi had been gone for a while, Noah let out a slow sigh of relief.

"Phew, it's a good thing I've already learned Nen and had that month of training. Otherwise, I might have spilled everything after he stared at me like that."

Muttering to himself, Noah's eyes continued to flicker with determination.

Illumi might look like he's only five or six years old right now, but even with Nen abilities, Noah couldn't be certain that he could defeat or confront Illumi head-on. Illumi might not be Noah's match, but as an assassin, he could use stealth to attack Noah at any time, anywhere, whether during meals, sleep, or even when he's using the restroom. As long as Noah didn't have time to activate his Nen, the result would be death.

And this was the current Illumi; he couldn't even imagine how powerful Illumi would become once he grew up and learned Nen.

With these thoughts, Noah felt a heavy pressure on his back, like a mountain.

Even though he was now a butler for the Zoldyck Family, Noah was well aware that being a butler was not much different from being a tool. In this Hunter's world, without enough strength, he had no way to determine his own fate. He might be used and discarded by the Zoldyck Family one day.

Noah absolutely did not want that to happen.

He needed to become stronger!

Stronger than Illumi!

Strong enough to make the Zoldyck Family wary!

Strong enough to free himself from the identity of a butler and step out into the wider world!

With these thoughts in mind, a burning desire to become stronger ignited in Noah's heart.

"You're quite clever, surprising me once again."

Hearing this voice, the fiery determination in Noah's heart instantly receded, as he already knew who was approaching.

Slowly turning towards the source of the sound, Noah saw the Zoldyck Family's head butler, Gatoh, dressed in a tuxedo, standing there with perfect posture, wearing glasses.

"Once again, it's you. Are you a ghost? How can I see you everywhere?"

Wait a minute. Was Gatoh here from the beginning? Or did he only appear when Illumi did? When Illumi was asking me questions earlier, he didn't come out to stop me but just watched? If I had accidentally revealed information about Nen, or even mentioned it, would he have suddenly appeared to kill me?

A lightning-fast thought crossed Noah's mind.

"If you had said something you shouldn't have back then, your head would be detached from your neck right now. My apologies for not alerting you to this point," Gatoh said calmly.

As expected!

If you felt sorry, you should have intervened earlier. Any other person would have spoken by now! It seems that there are no kind-hearted individuals in the Zoldyck Family.

Noah's eyelids twitched.

"Hehehe, Gatoh, this young man is indeed a promising talent. Take good care of him," a figure slowly appeared behind Gatoh.

Once Noah saw this figure clearly, he couldn't help but hold his breath.

It was a tall woman, dressed in a white long gown with white lace around the collar. She wore a white hat adorned with roses on her head, and her eyes were concealed by electronic glasses, revealing only fair skin, a delicate aquiline nose, and lips painted with lipstick. Although her full appearance couldn't be seen, one could sense that she was an extremely beautiful woman.

Kikyo Zoldyck!

The current head of the Zoldyck Family's wife and Illumi's mother.

Because of Kikyo's distinctive appearance and somewhat twisted personality, she had left a deep impression on Noah when he watched Hunter x Hunter in his previous life. Therefore, when Kikyo appeared now, Noah immediately recognized her.

So, Kikyo was here just now? No wonder Gatoh didn't appear immediately. It must be this woman's way of testing whether I would reveal information about Nen to Illumi. Another life-threatening test!

"Yes, madam," Gatoh turned around and respectfully bowed.
