By sunrise, the entire 8.3 million adult populous of Meteor City is dead. Walking back through the city I have the giant shadow balls holding all the children follow me as I head back to where Hanzo has been patiently waiting and where my remaining personnel are set to be gathered.
It's going to take a while if I walk and there are things I need to do, people I need to kill so I start running at a decent speed to get to my former base. I get there within the span of a few minutes and proceed to let the children out of the spheres to get some fresh air.
"Your back," Hanzo states in a monotone voice. So what did you do all night, and who are the kids?" he asks with a hint of curiosity.
"Yeah I'm back, and these kids. They are all from Meteor City. The adults are dead and I took those who are still manipulatable for. erm... you could say testing. Say you've been here sitting all night I'd bet you want to go and stretch your legs. You mind going and getting a few glasses of water and some leaves."
"Sure, but with what glasses and how many?"
"Well, you know just enough for every kid here," After I say this Hanzo's face turns to one of shock.
"Boss you're not serious. I don't think I could even carry that many glasses without them all falling. There has to be at least one hundred thousand kids here!"
"Oh, right okay you have a point. Then we will just have to move altogether then," With this said I summon over a thousand shadow tendrils and have them grab kids one by one placing them gently into another series of shadow spheres I make.
"Oh, and Hanzo, we need to make good time holding giant 13-story shadow spheres cramming together these kids is very aura-draining for even me so we will be going at your maximum speed."
Saying this I wait for the shadow tendrils to gather all the children before we set off on our journey.
While we set off I mentally transmit the new coordinates to the other members of our now mostly deceased mafia. 'Okay, sorry we are having to move for personal reasons. The new meetup point will be the leftmost shore of Yorbia bordering Lake Mobius.'
It takes almost 2 hours of constant running and when passing cities I have to use 'In' to hide it from any possible Nen users in the area. My aura reserves are almost fully drained by the end but the next part will be easy.
I go from one sphere to another releasing Aura into them until the air is thick with it before finally unleashing the aura into the children's bodies with a slight amount of malicious intent to open their aura nodes. On this mass scale, I may have accidentally made a few mistakes with the process for some of the kids destroying their bodies irreversibly but that's fine only a few hundred will die because of those mistakes, and I still have thousands more.
Disintegrating the shadow spheres I unleash a large-scale En with intent to kill infused into it to hopefully scare the kids into not trying to escape. Even if they do try though they will be brought back by me or Hanzo.
"Hanzo sit down and activate Gyo," I order. "Tell me when you see one of them activate Ten or Zetsu naturally. Once they do we will separate them into groups of the fastest and the middle-speed ones. If they take longer than an hour or they exhaust all of their aura we will kill them with no mercy understand? Also if they try to escape catch them."
With that order to Hanzo, I leave using my speed to gather a couple hundred leaves and proceed to start making hundreds of cups to fill with water. Making the cups also trains my Conjuration decently even if they are just normal glass cups.
The first kid to pass takes a mere 4 minutes. The second takes 5 and a half and finally the third takes about 7 minutes to naturally get either Zetsu or Ten. Between the third and the fourth to pass is over 15 minutes with the fourth being a little girl who passed in 23 minutes. In the end, 3 people passed in under 10 minutes with the majority of passers getting 30 minutes to an hour.
In total a full 114 children passed the test naturally within the time span I set. I take away the passers over to my table where I set them in a line. The first to pass is in the front, he is a tall boy probably around 11 years old standing at an impressive 5 foot 3, 4 inches above most of his age group. I take his hands and place them on both sides of the glass before saying anything.
"try to feel an aura like an ocean inside of you and channel it outwards into this cup," even though I ordered him to try and channel his aura into the cup he won't comply and instead begins to glare at me harshly. In return for his disobedience, I release my Ren with a tiny bit of hostility to scare the crap out of him.
He still looks like he won't do what I've asked of him so I decide to pace my chips all in with a bet that he will crumble, "Will you comply or die?" I say in a dark tone while doubling the hostility in the aura I'm releasing.
After a few tense minutes, he relents and nods before trying what I've asked. Seeing his will break all the kids behind him start nervously sweating. 'Phew', I think to myself, if he didn't relent I would've actually had to kill him to keep my image. This kid is probably the most valuable one here, with an unrelenting will and enough talent to unlock Zetsu with no guidance in a mere 4 minutes. It's almost like he is built to be a Nen practitioner.
After a few seconds, the water starts to glow and it causes both the leaf and cup to start dissolving. As the leaf fully dissolved the cup cracks spilling the glowing liquid everywhere. With this turn of events I feel like jumping for joy, I've found a specialist, and once with immense potential at that.
"Good. Good. Next!" I call out and watch as slowly the next child walks up. This one is the second to pass and she is a little girl of average height if not a bit thin for her age but when we get back to the new base we can fix that.
"Same thing goes for you as for the other kid, place your hands on either side of the glass and channel the power you just unlocked inside of you into the cup." This child isn't being as stubborn as the last and decides to do what I ask of her without any other 'motivation'
Just like last time she takes a minute to figure out how to manipulate her aura into the glass but when she finally does the water in the glass starts to gain volume before finally overflowing.
"Nice nice, you can go wait with the other little boy now. Next!"
The day proceeds like this before finally, the slower children get a turn. The children who take longer on the first exam take a very significant amount of time on this one so I decide to finally screw it and tell them what to do before moving on to the next child so I save some of my time instead of spending an hour with each kid for the next 80 or 90 kids.
After it's all said and done it's time for the final step in getting them into my new organization, contracts. This part should be the easiest as I can just scare the kids into signing. Making the contracts is probably the hardest part in the process so I can word it in a way that sounds fair but is inevitably a trap. If I tell them they're signing themselves up for slavery they won't take the offer and I won't get anywhere in my newest set of plans.
In the end, I finally settle on an easy strategy which is to tell them what they're signing up for but not tell them what they're signing up for.
"Okay!" I announce gaining the attention of all the little boys and girls. "I'm going to explain something to you right now. The ability I have unlocked inside of you is called nen and you will form now on be better and stronger than any other children, but there's a catch. To be the best you will need proper training. I will train you correctly if you agree to the terms of a contract I have made that will bind you to help me a little."
"Here's the thing with the contract. The contract comes from an ability I have called 'String of Fate' In the most basic senses it will bind your fate to mine and we will both have a string placed inside of us to enforce the rules of the contract. Through this string, I will be able to control your body and talk to you without using words from as far away as across the world."
"The terms of the contract are I will feed cloth and protect you as long as you all agree to do whatever I say and work for me when you inevitably get older. I will give you almost everything you can ever need and you will just obey me in return. To do this if I betray you I will be severely punished and if you betray me you will immediately die. If at any point in time you want to leave me all you have to do is ask and if I approve of it you will be allowed to go with no penalty. If you leave my side you will not be allowed to talk about any personal business to anyone not inside of the organization I am creating."
Using these big words obviously confuses the children and they all gain confused looks on their faces, but luckily for my Hatsu to work I never put anything about them understanding how my ability works and being fully cognitive all I put was that I have to tell them what it is my Hatsu does and the terms of the contract.
By the end of the day, I 'forced' all of the kids to sign the contract, and we sat tight, waiting for the rest of the scattered family to appear.
The math behind making this chapter was insane. I had to calculate how many kids under 12 would be in a city of 8-10 million people (with a low birth rate bc of poverty) and then to make it true to what I've said I had to calculate how many layers of 100m I would need to fit roughly 800k kids
