Chapter 25: Buying Dinner

Gon: "Esther and I were raised by Mito. I only ever seen my dad in pictures."

Killua: "Who's Mito?"

Esther: "Gon's Aunt. She hardly ever told us anything about him. We got some insight from a hunter named Kite."

Killua: "Who's Kite?"

Gon: "My dad's disciple. He told me that my dad took the hunter exam when he was also 12 years old. He passed and became a hunter. Then he left the island. I want to find out why he chose to become a hunter over raising me."

Killua: "And why do you want to become a hunter?"

Esther: "Me? Well…I never really thought about it. I'm only taking this exam to see if I can find my home. Also, a fox cub convinced me."

KIllua: "Can't you look up information from library's or websites?"

Esther: "I can't. I've been searching for years, the name cage doesn't seem to exist anywhere."

Killua: "That's very strange…"

Gon: "Oh, look! The exit!"

We look at the front. I see the light at the end of the tunnel getting closer. We charge. Passing the moustache guy, it seems we tied. The moustache guy looks at us, I can feel his surprise.

Ki, G, and E: "Goal!"

Gon: "Yay! I win."

Killua: "What are you talking about? I was faster."

Esther: "No way! My hair definitely made it before any of you."

Killua: "What? That doesn't make any sense!"

Gon: "I was faster."

Killua: "No, I was."

Esther: "I was! You have to buy me dinner!"

Killua: "Nope. I was faster! So you buy me dinner."

Gon: "But I was faster. Hey, who was faster?"

Gon asks the moustache guy.

"I believe that you crossed the finish line simultaneously."

Gon: "Oh…Then I'll buy Killua's dinner, Killua buys Esther dinner, and Esther will buy me dinner."

Killua: "That doesn't make any sense."

Esther: "It does to me! Hope your wallets big enough, I'll be munching on a lot of stuff."

Gon: "Hey, Mr. Satotz. Is this where the 2nd phase of the exam will take place?"

"No, we still have quite a ways to go."

The moustache guy responses, I look around. It's foggy. Many applicants start exiting the tunnel, gonna move near Gon. We sit for some time before I hear Leorio panting as he falls in front of the exit. Kurapika soon exits the tunnel as well.

Gon: "Hey! Kurapika."

Kurapika: "Is this our destination?"

Gon: "No, it isn't."

Kurapika: "I see… the fogs fading."

Gon: "Really?!"

The area starts to clear, I see trees around us. Gon stands up, looking very excited. Can't say the same for me, I have this strange feeling that someone is watching us. Better not be that fat guy, he's trouble. I look around and my eyes land on number 44. His stare sends a shiver down my spine.
