How to Get a Two Headed Dog

Rosie too loved Lomeo and Julien, perhaps even more than Mina did. Once done with the book, she visited Vincent with tired puffy eyes. He didn't even want to think about how much tears she shed while reading his 'original' work.

Rosie grabbed him by the collar and shook him back and forth, telling him to give a happy ending to the two lovers. When he refused, she began crying again. "Why? Why must you give such a sad conclusion to Lomeo and Julien's love?"

He did his best to hold back a smirk. He had been waiting for this question for a while now. In fact, he had even tried to lead Mina to ask this question but she missed all his clues. After multiple tries, he had to eventually give up and hope that either his sister or mother would ask this important question.

Putting on a melancholic look, he pretended to be looking at the ceiling in deep thought. Counting to three inside his heart, he let out a soft sigh and spoke sadly, "Because..... there's beauty in tragedy."

Rosie was caught completely off guard by the answer. Wiping her tears away with the back of her palm, she sniffled loudly. "What's with you? That's actually profound and beautiful."

Vincent nodded once and continued pretending that he was contemplating matters of love and beauty. Unbeknownst to him, his parents were listening with serious expression right outside the door. Having heard his answer, a look of deep worry came over their eyes.

Viscount Renn originally thought his wife's conjecture was completely ridiculous. But after listening to the thought provoking words from Vincent, he couldn't help but think that what his wife said made a little sense. Renee on the other hand, was completely convinced of her previous train of thought and began thinking of ways to convince her son to not give up on life.

The husband and wife duo looked at each other with worry evident in their eyes. As they heard Rosie approaching the door, they hurriedly went away. Their kids finding out that they were eavesdropping was the last thing they wanted.

Mr. Ostin was an extremely wealthy businessman. He had started as a small time merchant but built a business empire in less than three decades. Many merchants and businessmen looked up to him for what he had achieved, many hoping to replicate his success.

While he looked friendly and harmless at first glance, his reputation would lead anyone to believe otherwise. The story of his rise was one filled with violence and bloodshed. It was only recent that he had washed his hands off most of his old business and opened up Ostin Publishing House.

Though a newcomer to the industry, Ostin Publishing House was already a big name as Mr. Ostin had put in a significant amount from his wealth in it. He might have become much more tame in his recent years, but he was still as aggressive about his business as ever.

A few days ago, the publishing house had published 'Lomeo and Julien' by an author who went by the pen name James Bond. The book earned raving reviews from enthusiasts and was a hot topic currently in Mistellia.

And riding on the success of the book, news regarding 'Lomeo and Julien' being turned into a play was being spread actively through various advertising spots all over the city. The biggest of the bunch was right outside Ostin Publishing House's office.

A huge wooden board was erected in front of the massive building. Painted on it was the figure of the play's leads. The roles were being played by Andrew Tame and Frances Pole, two famous actors Mr. Ostin had specially invited them from Claystead, the capital of Libsidia.

The two had been hailed as masters of their craft in recent years and every play they did was sure to be a hit.

Looking at the giant wooden board, a girl spoke excitedly to her friend. "I can't wait to watch the play. Heard that the famous duo from Buga's troupe are going to play Lomeo and Julien."

"I heard about it too. And miss Beth called the book a contemporary masterpiece. Edna, her maid said that miss Beth cried for at least an hour." The friend answered while looking at the board. "Still, do you think this James Bond is as much of a genius as everyone is making him out to be?"

The first girl put on a shocked expression. "Do you not know? There's rumors going around that Mr. Bond is incredibly young. To be able to craft such a tragic tale.... oh, what heartbreaks he must have experienced. And he sounds like such a sweetheart too."

Listening from nearby, Vincent would nod his head every once in a while in satisfaction. This had become his favorite activity recently. Whenever he found free time, he would come here and stand idly. The discussions about his 'original' work that made their way into his ears would fill his heart with joy.

As for the few negative comments he heard, he would call the haters bad names in his heart and forget about it.

Still, if he had to pick what he liked the most about these discussions, he would without a doubt say that it would be the talks about the mysterious James Bond. He couldn't help but get an urge to scream at the top of his lungs that he was James Bond. There were even several instances where he almost did it. But thinking about how uncool it would be, he suppressed his urges and silently planned on how to best reveal that he was James Bond in the most impactful and flashy manner.

"Master, this is bad. The viscountess, she is going through your room and getting rid of things left and right." Vincent's musings were interrupted by Mina's words. She was out of breath and looking at her slightly disheveled appearance, one could tell that she ran all the way here from who knows where.

Waiting for her to catch her breath, he asked slightly confused. "But why? She has never gone through my room."

"I don't know. Jacob was the first thing she got rid of. When I asked her why, she said that having any poison or venom near you would be bad."

Jacob was Vincent's pet. It was a Zuma spider he got a few months back to study its venom. The venom that he coated his crossbow bolt the other day to kill the assassin was also harvested from Jacob.

'If she gets rid of Jacob, I won't be able to get more venom. And wouldn't it decrease my coolness if my extremely dangerous pet got taken away from me? Thankfully I have already hidden the Potion of Unlimited Power and everything related to its research.' Vincent thought to himself before speaking with a hint of urgency in his voice. "Let's go. I need Jacob with me no matter what."

The two hurried back home and reached there just before Renee was done selecting all the potentially dangerous substances in the room.

"Mom, what are you doing? Where's Jacob?" Vincent asked loudly as he couldn't find any signs of his pet spider.

His mother avoided eye contact and answered plainly. "It seems like Jacob escaped somewhere. Don't worry, I will get some people to search for him."

"How could you do this? Jacob is my pet you know."

Seeing that her son had probably heard about her doing from Mina, she smiled sweetly and spoke. "It's just a spider. It will be hard to find it. And who knows if it's already dead. How about this V? Mommy remembers you always wanting an Orthrus. I will buy you one if you promise me not to keep any poisonous or venomous things near you."

Renee knew her son well. She was sure that he would immediately forget about Jacob if he could get a cooler pet. After all, he was obsessed with rare things since childhood.

And like she had expected, Vincent didn't even hesitate before agreeing immediately. "Okay. When are you getting me one? I want one that's black in color. It would be preferable if it has mismatched eye colors."

Seeing that her strategy had worked, she let out a sigh of relief. "Don't worry. I will send someone to Claystead today. Your Orthrus will be here before this month ends. Just be sure to keep your promise. Okay?"

Vincent nodded enthusiastically in response. He wanted to ask why Jacob or any poisonous substance was suddenly a cause of concern but held himself back considering that she might change her mind about getting him and Orthrus. As a kid, you have to learn to control your behaviour. Especially when the other party has leverage over you.

Since he was getting a rare beast he always wanted, he stopped himself from going back to the area near the publishing house to hear people sing his praises. Instead, he began thinking of what to name this Orthrus of his. After all, it was going to be Dr. Frankenstein's long awaited monster.
