"Pervy! Sage!" Naruto kicked open the tavern door, storming over to Jiraiya with a face full of rage. Without a word, he started yelling.
"You actually left me in the street! I've been baking in the sun all day! I almost turned into dried fish! Even Kurama was laughing at me!"
"I'm being hunted right now! Those guys are all super dangerous! And you just left me there like it was nothing!" Naruto's face was red with anger. "The worst part is! You even took my wallet! You didn't leave me a single cent! I've been starving all day!!!"
Jiraiya, still in shock, didn't respond to Naruto's rant. He was staring at the cards in his hand, his mouth wide open, questioning everything.
Naruto, in the middle of his tirade, suddenly froze when he saw Jiraiya's expression. The angry words on the tip of his tongue vanished, replaced by a curious feeling.
He climbed up beside Jiraiya and looked at the card in Jiraiya's hand.
"What are you looking at, Pervy Sage?"
Jiraiya's eye twitched as he waved Naruto away.
"Go away, a kid like you wouldn't understand."
As he spoke, he tossed Naruto's frog wallet back to him.
"Here's your wallet. Go buy something to eat. Don't bother me."
Naruto caught the wallet, looking a bit confused, but since he had his wallet back, that was fine. He hadn't eaten all day and was definitely going to get something good to eat.
"Is that Kushina's kid?" Tsunade said, watching Naruto's departing figure with a strange expression. For a moment, she didn't know what to say. But after a moment, she frowned slightly.
"How did he get so badly hurt? What did he do?"
Jiraiya sighed and tossed the card back onto the table.
"He really is Minato and Kushina's child. The main reason for coming out this time is for him. I hope you can help heal his injuries."
Tsunade glanced at Jiraiya without speaking and took a few sips from her cup.
Jiraiya felt helpless.
"Tsunade, Naruto overused the Nine-Tails' power to protect the village, which led to the tailed beast chakra corrupting his body. The entire Konohagakure medical team can't treat him. Only you can save him."
Tsunade paused in her drinking.
"For the village?"
"Yes," Jiraiya nodded. "Just like Minato and Kushina."
"Who taught this kid to use the Nine-Tails' power?" Tsunade's tone carried an underlying tension.
She didn't believe a kid could come into contact with the tailed beast on his own, especially since the new generation of ninja in Konohagakure didn't even know what a tailed beast was, let alone how to control the Nine-Tails' power.
Jiraiya fell silent for a moment, and after a while, he slowly replied,
"It was me."
"Ha..." Tsunade scoffed, a sarcastic look on her face.
"You really are a great teacher. Those three kids from the Land of Rain died because of your so-called noble ideals. Minato and Kushina also died because of your selfishness. Now that Kushina finally has a child, it's because you put him in danger. Looking at this kid's injuries, if it weren't for luck, he probably would have been dead by now."
Tsunade lay back on the sofa, her gaze filled with scorn.
"I really wonder how you're going to explain this to Kushina if this kid dies."
Jiraiya fell silent and didn't answer.
Because that was the truth.
If he hadn't taught Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan ninjutsu back then, perhaps they wouldn't have died for the sake of peace in the Land of Rain. If he hadn't chased Orochimaru for his own desires but had stayed in Konohagakure to wait for Kushina to give birth, maybe the Nine-Tails wouldn't have caused such damage.
If Jiraiya hadn't taught Naruto to communicate with the tailed beast a month ago, maybe Naruto wouldn't have been able to win against Hyuga Neji, and perhaps he wouldn't have gotten such serious injuries.
Jiraiya lowered his head.
"If I had to do it again, I would still make the same choice."
He felt regret, but it was useless because Jiraiya knew that if given the chance again, he would still make the same choice. That's just who he was—a wishy-washy, impulsive Jiraiya.
In front of others, he was the sage of Mount Myoboku, but in front of Tsunade and Orochimaru, he was just a lagging tail.
"How ridiculous." Tsunade took the bottle and gulped down a couple of swigs of alcohol.
It was indeed ridiculous. Jiraiya wore a bitter expression.
"Let's just say it's for Naruto himself, for Minato and Kushina... and for me. Tsunade, please treat Naruto."
Not for Konohagakure, and not for the ninja world, but for Naruto himself, for Minato and Kushina, and for Jiraiya. He hoped Tsunade could save Naruto.
Tsunade drank slowly, her gaze drifting as she looked out the window.
At that moment, Naruto ran up to Jiraiya again, holding his empty wallet and crying loudly,
"Pervy Sage!!! You used up all my money! You only left me with twenty ryo!"
"Pervy Sage! You have no heart!!!"
His miserable wails echoed throughout the tavern, turning the heads of many slightly tipsy patrons.
Suddenly, Tsunade laughed, like a water lily blooming under the moonlight. In the soft light from the window, she seemed to shine like an angel. At that moment, Tsunade looked like she had found her former self—the one who might not have been very innocent but was definitely real.
"The name 'Pervy Sage' really suits you," Tsunade said with a beautiful smile, leaving Jiraiya momentarily stunned.
What intoxicates is never just the alcohol; maybe it's the feelings, the moment's emotions, the girl sitting across from him, or perhaps...
It was the words from a certain straightforward guy.
Naruto (looking serious): "Who are you, beautiful?"
...
Outside the short book street, a person who looked exactly like Naruto stood still, sporting a somewhat comical smile as he watched the lights inside. With golden hair, a rugged beard, sharp nails, and eyes that seemed almost beast-like, he was unmistakably Naruto's shadow clone, Kurama.
Kurama clenched his fist.
"Well, the strength is barely enough. Using my chakra a bit should not cause this clone to collapse."
Saying this, Kurama looked into the distance.
"But Naruto already had the sage's chakra when he was a kid? It seems my predictions about him were a bit too conservative."
Indeed, Kurama had found the chakra hidden within Naruto, belonging to another person.
Not Ashura, but the Sage of Six Paths.
No wonder the Sage of Six Paths can talk to Naruto so easily in the future; this chakra has existed since the reincarnation of Ashura and Indra. It just so happened that in Naruto and Sasuke's generation, the Sage sensed signs of reconciliation between the two, so he chose to appear.
