I'D BEEN WALKING around in a daze all morning, wondering what the hell happened between Miles and me. I felt his declaration to the core, but it scared me. I saw the dedication my parents had toward each other, how much love and respect they shared, but I hated to think their love was my example. Sure, I was an adult now, but how could they take off on me, leave me alone with no money, like they didn't care at all? Their blood ran through me, and I worried that I would cut bait and run too.
Pete was excited to see me first thing in the morning when he woke. His pudgy toddler cheeks were stretched from the big smile, and my heart melted when he wrapped his little arms around my leg. I could get used to the love this little boy offered so freely.
