Cancel the Engagement

"What happened?" Rahul asked, clenching his fists.

His handsome face filled with worry, concern, and anger. And of course, it would. If not…, how could he take it? His soon-to-be wife was lying lifeless on the bed, keeping the engagement ceremony in an hour. An IV drip was attached to her left wrist, her face paled with exhaustion. He remembered her smiling and chirpy behavior. He couldn't bear to look at her like this.

His opal eyes filled with concern; his lips tugged downwards in happiness… when the realization hit him. Her family wasn't taking good care of her, anger aroused in his veins as he felt anger at their lack of caring towards her, making him clench his hands into a tight ball. His eyes were turning sharper and dangerous as seconds passed, his tall nose flaring red with anger as he gazed at her limp body. And one could see everything that he felt was all due to the love and concern he has towards her.

"This little girl… is going on interviews after interviews without caring about her health in the past three months. And a complete day journey made her drained out completely. She couldn't hold it anymore. We asked the doctor to do something so that she would be awake at least for an hour… but the doctor said… if she does that… she may have some health issues during her wedding day. So… if she takes rest for a day… she will be fine," he said.

"I am disappointed," Rahul said in a low growl.

"I know… you are looking for this marriage with her. But this is something we haven't expected too," Arjun said.

"I am disappointed at your family for not treating her well…" he growled at his friend.

Arjun knew Rahul very well. Rahul was four years younger than him… he never acted like a kid. He acted more mature than him. And he knew he was disappointed at the Pasupuleti family.

"That's the reason… I made my family agree with you marrying her in such a short time…" Arjun said, making Rahul's head whipped in his direction.

When the realization dawned on him… his lips dipped in a dangerous smile that invoked fear in others' spines. So… this was the reason he wanted him to marry her. He always shooed him away when he tried to approach his dream girl. But… now, him agreeing to this marriage and hastening things made him suspicious about something.

There was something Arjun was trying to hide from him. He only hoped whatever it was… it would be solved.

"You hid something from me," Rahul said, shifting his gaze to his woman. He walked towards her and sat beside her on the bed.

"Your actions are against the traditions," Arjun commented.

"You brought me here in the first place ignoring those so-called traditions. You made your family agree to this marriage to be held in a week by ignoring those so-called traditions," Rahul snapped back ignoring his jabs. He knew… it's just his brother's protective stance against him.

Arjun was smart enough to shut his mouth. He wanted to divert the topic and he did it successfully… so… there was no need for him to dig his grave.

"But… that doesn't answer my question," Rahul reminded him, saying that he won't forget the question he asked.

"Rahul… these things were related to elders. But everything would be fine… right after you tie the nuptial chain around her neck. Till then trust me… I can't say anything to you. And trust I will protect her. Only this marriage could protect her and her life," Arjun said.

Rahul wanted to ask more and say something… but he knew when to shut his mouth.

"Was it your uncle?" he asked.

What happened to him shutting his mouth? Ha-ha… Rahul ate his own words.

"Yeah… but there was someone along with him. I don't know who it is. But… I will deal with that… She is already dev…." Arjun ate his words. He almost blurted out the beans he kept in his mouth.

"She was already devastated and sad for missing her interview yesterday. I don't want to warn her about her uncle again. Take care of her," Arjun said.

"Hmm…. I don't think you called me here just to see her like this. There must be some other reason for you to bring me here," Rahul said, exposing him again.

Arjun chuckled at his friend. He cannot hide anything from him.

"I want you to cancel the engagement," he asked dropping a bomb.
