Grandma Peng's childhood house was a bit far from where the parking would normally take place.
And to say the least, Xiaohui was exhausted from all the walking they did, which she expected but never prepared herself for.
Grandma Peng's house is a homey and soothing place that takes number one in terms of rest for Xiaohui.
Even though she's only been there twice in her entire life, she did see how she could live in this type of place.
The quietness and how everyone around her likes and respects each other showed just how much she badly wanted it.
And it's not everyday she'll be able to see and witness people even gathering around to celebrate one's birthday.
You wouldn't see that in the city unless it's a highly respected person who's holding the party.
The house they will be staying in for two days is a small, one-story home.
It contains a small kitchen area as soon as you enter the space. It also has a small living area with a television in it and a big space that seems to be a sleeping area for someone.
Though the house has two bedrooms and one bathroom, you can say it's still not as big as those apartments you would see in the city.
Or not as big as where they are currently living.
Upon entering the space, Xiaohui was quick to notice the walls, which are made up of wood.
She couldn't help but furrow her eyebrows, imagining how they could even survive the coldness and heavy rains that would come in a year.
They entered the living space, and she saw an almost worn-out couch in front of the television.
Her eyes look at her back, seeing Meixiu casually walking inside as she puts the bag in the corner of the room.
"How was the house for you?"
Xiaohui asks, her eyes looking intently at Meixiu as the taller looks back at her, walking towards her place to sit down beside her.
Meixiu looks around the area as she hums in response and nods her head.
"It's warm and homey."
"You're not complaining about the conditions?"
Meixiu has her eyes set on Xiaohui as she smiles widely, her hands going towards Xiaohui's hands and holding them tightly.
"Why would I? I've seen far worse conditions than these types of houses."
Xioahui couldn't help but furrow her eyebrows, her eyes looking towards their hands, which seem to be puzzle pieces because they fit each other.
Her lips twitched slowly into a smile, but she managed to shake it off.
"What do you mean?"
"You'll know it in the future."
Meixiu winks at her before she removes her hands and walks back towards the bags.
"I'll put these in the room."
Grandma Peng has gone out of the room she's staying in, and Meixiu quickly went inside to put the bag inside.
"Ning, where are your mother and my brother?"
Grandma Peng was quick to notice Ning going out of the room as the older lady took a seat beside her granddaughter.
The younger woman flinched at the sudden call, and she was quick to recover, walking in their direction as she took a seat on the floor.
"Grandpa's at the farm while Mother's probably with her friends."
Ning's eyes quickly went towards Xiaohui, and she smiled widely.
"Older sister Xiaohui! It's nice to see you again."
She said this as the said woman looked at her and smiled widely, joining her on the floor and taking her hands into hers.
"You didn't change at all, Ning."
The door where Meixiu went in opened, and the woman walked out of it with her own bags that she had grabbed from Ning earlier before entering the house.
Ning and Xiaohui have their eyes laid on the woman, while Grandma Peng has been looking at the taller.
"Are you going to take a shower?"
Ning was quick to stand up from the floor and go towards Meixiu. Xiaohui furrows her eyebrows and follows the younger girl behind, her head looking between Meixiu and Ning.
Meixiu looks at Ning and smiles before her eyes go towards Xiaohui.
"I'm about to ask Xiaohui since she must be tired and would love to take a rest."
Ning looked behind her, and her arms went towards Xiaohui's right arms.
"Older sister, would you like hot water for your water? I'll boil some for you."
"Ning, would that be alright with you?"
Ning smiled widely and nodded her head.
"It's the only way I can repay the kindness."
"Then I'll go to the well and fetch water."
Xiaohui's eyes went towards Meixiu, as the girl had her right hand above her head. She nodded as Grandma Peng stood up from the couch and went towards them.
"Then go now; I'll have to take a nap in the room."
-
Meixiu's eyes looked towards the road, and they met the glaring gaze of Tingfeng, with Xiaowen following closely behind him.
The guy stops for awhile, his hands balling in the process as Meixiu raises an eyebrow towards him.
The door opened behind her, and she saw Xiaohui with a towel on her head, her eyes smiling in the process.
"Are you done showering?"
"Xiaohui."
The mentioned girl looked up from her folded, dirty clothes and saw the glaring eyes of Tingfeng.
Xiaowen looks between them before she crosses her arms on her chest, furrowing her eyebrows at the girl.
"I already told you to come with us, but you insisted on coming with Meixiu! Look, you didn't even get home last night."
Xiaohui sighs and shakes her head. Her eyes looked at her mother's, giving the older woman a blank look.
"Mom, stop it already. I don't want to hear anything about last night."
"What? Did something happen between you and this garbage?"
Tingfeng's eyes look between Meixiu and Xiaohui, displaying a look of disagreement.
Xiaohui looked between Tingfeng and her mother, the folded clothes going towards her right hand as she snaked her left arm onto Meixiu's right arm, surprising the three.
Meixiu's eyes fixed on Xiaohui, her mouth parting a little at the bold action the smaller woman made.
"Yes, do you have any problem with that? We're married."
Xiaohui raises her other hand as she forcefully raises Meixiu's right one, the rings shining on their ring fingers.
"Now, if you two will excuse us, we still need to take a rest."
Xiaohui bows down in front of the two as her hold tightens on Meixiu. She drags the taller woman away from the glaring and disgusted stares of Tingfeng and Xiaowen.
"Auntie Xiaowen! How can your daughter be that disrespectful!?"
Tingfeng looks at Xiaowen as the older woman flinches at his sudden outburst. Her hands quickly went towards Tingfeng's left arm, but the guy retrieved it forcefully.
"I don't know! It's probably the doing of that bastard!"
"Auntie! She's getting infected because of that garbage! You should have divorced them early on."
Tingfeng has his hands balled into a fist, glaring at the older woman as Xiaowen looks down on the ground, ashamed to lift her head.
Xiaohui sighs in relief as they finally keep their distance from Tingfeng and her mother.
Her eyes automatically go towards her arms, which snake around Meixiu's right ones, before she pushes the taller girl away, clearing her throat.
"Don't think of anything about what happened earlier! I just didn't want my mother to bother me!"
Her face heated up as she quickly ran away from the confused and surprised girl beside her.
