Chapter 10

Nolan dragged Shyla away from the car. Shyla lost her balance and almost fell to the ground. Fortunately, Vivaan supported her. Shyla looked back at Nolan, as she didn't understand his action.

"Nolan, don't forget that you are getting a divorce today," Vivaan reminded him.

Nolan said coldly, "Shyla was still my wife before we got a divorce. I can't tolerate any outsider meddling in her business!"

Shyla was then dragged into Nolan's car. Shyla struggled, but she couldn't free herself from Nolan's grip. She shouted, "What is the meaning of this? Let me go."

Nolan sneered and turned to stare at Shyla.

"No wonder you wanted to get a divorce. You have already thrown yourself into Vivaan's arms. Do you think that, since no one loves you, you could look for Vivaan? You have a change of heart fast."

Nolan's sarcasm made Shyla's face turn pale. She didn't want to be alone and at least Vivaan was better at treating her than him. "How about you? He was much better than you, as you've never paid attention to me."

Upon hearing that, Nolan was speechless and drove the car silently. The depressive atmosphere in the car made it hard for Shyla to breathe. She rolled down the window to let the cold breeze blow on her face to wake her up.

"Am I really free now?" she thought.

Shyla's eyes were blurred with tears, but she didn't dare to cry in front of Nolan. She didn't want him to think that she was reluctant or that she was pretending or that it was her who suggested a divorce, yet pretended to be wronged. It seemed that after loving him so much until being submissive and humble, she still didn't manage to get him to love her.

On their way, Shyla suddenly felt a sharp pain in her abdomen, as if she had been pricked by a needle. She felt extremely uncomfortable and her face turned pale as she clutched tightly at her stomach.

Noticing that something was wrong, Nolan turned around and saw that Shyla was sweating profusely. He quickly stopped the car and asked, "Are you okay?"

"Send me to the hospital." Shyla grabbed Nolan's hand and pleaded. "My stomach hurts. I'm worried that something might happen to the child."

Nolan frowned. This child came so suddenly, but he couldn't stand watching Shyla suffer from pain. He immediately took her to the hospital.

"Mr. Bernard, the fetus in Mrs. Bernard's womb is unstable. She has to be hospitalized for a few days."

With a pale face, Shyla lay on the bed and covered her stomach with her hands. As long as the child was still alive, there was always hope for her.

Nolan's expression was complicated as he said coldly, "I'm going out for a moment."

After Nolan left the ward, Shyla started to think about her child, and, most importantly, the thing she feared the most was that the child she now bears would be born with defects and diseases.

It wasn't her wish to bring this precious little life into this world if the only thing that awaited him was a life filled with pains and sufferings.

But now, being pregnant is nothing more than suffering, both to her and to the child inside of her. Her body no longer had what it would take for her to nurture this precious life. But still, she is glad to bear all this, because she doesn't want Nolan to be alone after her death.

Her thoughts were disturbed by the sound of the door opening, when she raised her head to look at the door, to see Ivan entering the room.

When there was no one in the ward, Ivan came in with a medical report in his hand. He asked solemnly, "Shyla, do you know that you are in the final stage of gastric cancer?

She didn't want to talk about cancer, death, or the pain. She had thought of everything and she didn't regret her decision. I know I may not live for more than ten months.

"Is Nolan aware of this?" Elliot asked.

"He doesn't know." Shyla lowered her eyes and she didn't intend to tell him. "Please don't tell him that. When I am alive, I hope he is unaware of all this. It would be much better for him to think that I would only pester him for ten months and then he would get a divorce. At least, he wouldn't feel guilty."

As she spoke, Shyla started sobbing. She had loved Nolan for 13 years, but she did not feel tired at all. However, when she found out that she only had 10 months left, she shed tears in bitterness. Nolan did not love her, but it did not matter to her as she believed that she would be able to live for Nolan with her determination.

"Why must you go through so much trouble?" Elliot sighed.

"If you were me, you would do the same. I don't want him to feel guilty. For me, death is a sad matter, so I don't want him to bear the sadness. Maybe he will feel relieved after knowing that I will die, but I can't afford to let him know."

This was the way that Shyla loved Nolan. Like moths flying toward the light, she would love him until her final breath.

"Shyla, as a doctor, I must suggest you undergo an abortion immediately to take down the child inside of you as soon as possible. That's how serious the current state of your wellbeing is." Ivan said, his voice adamant with seriousness.

Shyla caressed her lower belly softly. Of course, she understood exactly what was happening and what was going to happen. But now, inside of her, was a life. She didn't want to snuff it out.

"Ivan, I know what I am doing, and I want this baby to accompany Nolan after my death. I don't want him to be alone. This is my last and lifelong precious gift to him".

Ivan's high brows frowned deeply, as he asked "what about you? What about the pain you are going to bear?"

Shyla smiled, and replied coolly, " I can bear all the pain for him alone. I want him to always be happy".

After listening to Shyla, Ivan thought about how unlucky the pair were, and he knew that he couldn't change Shyla's decision, so, he left the word.
