Gifts

Miguel knocked on the door. Dinner is on the table. He came to tell Zaviah to eat dinner with him and Rod. But it did not answer or open the door. He decided to just bring her something to eat but it still remained silent inside.

"Lovers quarrel auncle. Everything will be fine tomorrow."

Rod was behind him holding open beer in a can. Watching him knocking the door.

"It's you, Rod. Looks like you already knew how to drink alcohol."

"Yes a bit. Maybe not bad but this is how I used to spent my life alone," Rod replied.

"Let's go to the kitchen. I'll just return this food."

They went to the kitchen together. And continue drinking of alcohol.

"I thought you would never think about having a woman to love. It's good that you're getting married. Rod smiled while talking."

"I also don't think about that too."

"But you found her. She's maybe so special than other woman."

"Maybe. I guess."

Miguel couldn't tell Rod his reason. He must keep it to himself.

"Well you're Miguel Villaverde. The creeps of college ladies and the certified bachelor guy will get married soon."

They drank enough alcohol to sleep. Miguel went through the door of the guest room again. He would have tried to knock but he restrained himself as well. Maybe Zavaiah was asleep, he didn't want to disturbed. He was uneasy in those moments. He knew in himself what the reason was. They haven't talked properly yet. If only the night hadn't passed with resentment between the two of them. But it was quiet inside the room where Zavaiah was. So he just went into his bedroom. It had been a long night's progress for him waiting for the time. He could not understand whether he had fallen asleep or not. It's past two in the morning. It will be dawn in a few moments. He thought of going to the comfort room when he noticed that the light in the kitchen was on. But it also died immediately. It was so dark when he walked closer to the kitchen. Zaviah was the one he saw walking. She was carrying a glass of water. Its only torch is the light from her phone.

"Oh my!" Zaviah said it in her startled voice.

She was so shocked that she stopped walking and touched to her chest. She did not anticipate the sudden appearance of a man in front of her.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry Zav! I didn't think you'd turn off the light either."

She even let go of the glass full of water she was holding. The water spilled out and her foot got slightly wet. The wet must have soread to the floor as well as the broken glass. It was probably already cracked on the floor according to the sound she heard.

"Here you go, right to this direction. Maybe there's a broken glass scattered," Miguel said.

Miguel pulled quickly Zavaih's hand slightly so that he could divert her to the right way.

"Don't worry too much. I'm not just barefoot. And I'm wearing slippers."

Miguel was no longer silent. He knew Zaviah was still mad at him. He wanted to hug it tightly. He wanted to whisper many times the words sorry. But he had already escaped with courage. He just delivered it to the door of the guest room. He even went back to put away the scattered broken glass. Then he went on to go comfort room. He just sighed when he returned to his bedroom. He laid down on the bed. He forced himself to close his eyes. His eyelids aching, until he had not realized he was fallen asleep.

'Oh my gosh its morning'

Miguel was able to get up. It's only seven in the morning. The sunlight was so high that the light penetrated the side of the curtain on the window. He immediately got off the bed and hurried to the door. He was carrying the car key. At the flower shop he was going. He bought a dozen red roses.

"Maybe you know where I can buy chocolates," he asked the seller.

"On the other corner you will find the Lian Pastry and Bake Shop. There is also a shop next door selling novelty items and chocolates," she quickly replied.

"Thank you sister."

He saw some stuffed toys and other novelty gift items. He chose the human size teddy bear never left it until the counter. Even chocolates he did not forget to buy as well. He quickly drove his car home. In his desire to reach out his gifts offerings. But even before he got there he saw Zaviah not far away. He thinks carefully about how she can start coaxing it.

'Sorry Zav promise I won't repeat. Huh! Corny doesn't matter to me '

He didn't know how to begin what he was going to say. At the gate he stood carrying his bag. So Miguel stopped and immediately went down.

"I can take you," he offered.

"You just take care of Rod. I'll be back too and I'll go back to the hacienda with you."

Miguel was uncomfortable with Zaviah's answer. It didn't want to look at him directly. He didn't know how to hand out flowers, chocolates and the human size teddy bear.

"You'll get to your home faster if I take you. No taxi cab passes here. Unless someone sends a passenger in here."

Maybe Miguel was right in Zaviah's opinion. She had been there for almost an hour and there was no taxi coming.

"All right, at least until I board at Edsa. Maybe I'll be able to board there."

"No. I insist. I'll take you up to where you are going. Please!"

He no longer waited for the answer. He took the bag and put it inside his car. Zaviah followed him silently. And first caught to the attention was the stuff that Miguel bought for her.

"I can seat at the back. Someone's sitting there in the front."

Zaviah points to the big teddy bear that is right there in the front seat. It was like a man sitting comfortably. Miguel is already scratching his head because he is not a sweet kind of person. He hadn't experience yet giving gifts to a woman in all his entire life. He is thinking if it was really corny for someone like him who already aged at beyond calendar numbers giving a stuff to a woman. He is the type of a guy like a rice who the chicken approaches according to the saying of the elders.

"Those are for you," he stammered.

"For what? Are you courting me?"

Only then he remember the courtship. Maybe he should say Yes he thinks it will be more formal that they will be.

"For the wrong I said last night. And I'll tell you I'm dating you."

There was a moment of silence between them. Zaviah didn't expect to hear. It was not in his mind to ask if she was really being courted.

"Mommy is waiting for me."

She just wanted to change the subject so that's what she mentioned.

"Okay I'll move those stuff to the back first," Miguel replied.

He picked up the teddy bear and laid it on the back seat. She picked up the roses and chocolates as well. He politely handed it to Zaviah.

As when he was already sitting in the driver seat. He was very happy that Zaviah accepted his gifts. There he feels the great hope. and seems to be in the first step of courting. It is difficult to express the true feelings to someone too when someone like hi who has never experienced flirting before. He is used to get a woman who is not being courted and thw woman mostly giving motive instead.
