"What do I need to do?" Val asked in a low voice that showed how confused she was.

" I was just letting you know. Don't worry about Alex and Ian because they are still under police protection. I'm sending cops in civilian clothes to go to Anna's place. No more life will be lost Val, I promise you that," Maurice said in a confident voice and Val responded by nodding.

"Don't say anything to anyone. We can't draw attention to ourselves. We might lose Josephine. I'll keep you posted," Maurice said and disconnected the phone before Val said another word.

'I think that dinner invite must be the best thing to calm me down,' Val thought as she smiled. Her mind was already jumbled up so nothing she read from the files made sense.

She closed the files and got up from her desk and walked over to Karen's office and found her packing.
