Howling Night

Cristy was resting in her bed as Lily finished running her fingers through her hair. Instead of returning to her family's home, Lily's stayed with her. For the first time, she and Lily, who were both in their early twenties, will be attending the feast together.

"Do you feel scared?" Lily was curious.

"Yes."

"What's the source of your anxiety?"

"Just about everything. First dinner tonight, and I've mated with William this morning."

"William is the Alpha. That has to be one of the coolest things ever." She glowed when she saw Lily's excitement.

"In some ways, I am apprehensive. It's all going to change tonight. Mom and Dad are both concerned about my life. I'm frightened by the combination of the two of them. "She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "I don't know. For all I know, I may be over thinking things for the wrong reasons."

"What worries you about this situation?" Lily sat down on the bed and inquired.

"Have you observed the pack's treatment of women, especially human women? The ones they carried to bed have been blanked as if they had no significance."

"Several humans had fled the pack because to their treatment at the hands of the pack. Don't worries, William will not treat you like that."

Cristy beckoned Lily with a hand gesture. She gave a soft push to the back of her own.

"You're a virgin, right? I know this is going to sound weird," Lily asked.

Cristy gave a nod while averting her eyes.

"Why haven't you met the right guy yet?" Lily asked rhetorically. "Moreover, I'm a virgin at this point in my life as well. When it comes to donating one's body, Dim Forest isn't the ideal spot," Lily said.

"Have you ever thought of leaving?" Cristy inquired about the matter.

"What are you saying?" Lily's head was inclined to the side as she observed her.

"I think we should leave this location," Cristy said. With her eyes affixed on their hands, Cristy waited for her to speak up.

"In the past, I've contemplated leaving the country. I'd want to go on a short trip, but I know that I'll always return. Cristy, this is my life. I love Dim Forest, despite its imperfections."

Cristy smiled wide. "Yeah."

"Are you thinking about leaving?" Lily was curious.

"I tell you, I'm not thinking about it."

The faraway bell served as a warning that the werewolves were approaching. During the full moon, anyone may wander where they pleased, at their own risk. Lily made her way to the window to get a better look at the bare table. When the bell rang again, they would be permitted to place their pots in the center of the table. After all, she had been informed; humanity would be disregarded for most of the night.

"What's bothering on you, Cristy?"

"Because of William's saga, I'm considering it. I need some time off. You really think an alpha should get married to a human?"

Lily shrugged and continued on her way. "Our ideas and feelings are beyond of our control. As far as I know, he won't do it."

"There you go."

Howls from the pack of werewolves shook the silence of a peaceful night. Her hands began to tingle with excitement. When Cristy peeked out the window, she saw a massive black werewolf lurking on the forest's borders. When she saw him, it brought back memories of William. The werewolf's size attracted her attention. She became aware of the fact that she was averting her gaze.

"Cristy, I'm worried about you." Lily said.

"I'm fine, don't worry." Cristy swung around, her back to the window. "Please do not discuss our conversation with anyone else. I don't want anyone to misunderstand what I'm saying. No, I'm not going anywhere."

"I hope not," Lily said.

As more howls were heard, her gut constricted.

"I wish I had a better grasp of what was going on." In Lily's position, she had both hands on her head.

"I don't have time for that," Cristy respond. "You can bet that they're either preparing to kill something or have already done so." Cristy sat on the side of her friend's bed and ran her fingers through her hair.

" Ya, probably..." Lily withdrew her hand from the camera. When they heard her mother's voice, they both stopped giggling.

"At the very least, your mother cooks something. Chili is a favorite dish for everyone in the pack. And my mother's macaroni and cheese is terrible." Lily's shuddered at the thought of her causing the milk to curdle.

Cristy grinned as she followed her friend downstairs. While grating cheese, Cristy's mom was putting together a few pieces. "Hello, ladies," she says.

Cristy began piling the grated cheese up after receiving it from her mother. As her thoughts returned to William, she focused on her bandaged wrist. There was a subtle burning sensation that caused the wound to throb and get inflamed.

She listened to her mother's and her friend's chat for barely a fraction of a second. The moment William returned to her consciousness, her inner self dissolved. William intimidating stature and evil odor made it impossible to ignore him. She only wanted to lick his back because of the wolf tattoo she had seen there.

The sound of even more sobbing could be made out in the shadows. She slipped the counter-side window shut. She felt the chill of the night air on her face.

"There is a great deal of howling going on right now." Cristy's mom said, "They've never been like this before."

Her parents moved to Dim Forest when she was sixteen years old. She had previously approved of the decision, but now that William would be her mate, she was utterly opposed to it. Her friends remained in touch, but they were not allowed to visit her. Dim Forest was brought up to adhere to the rules that had been set in place. Trying to keep the alpha at bay, she let out a groan and grates the cheese as fast as she could.
