The halls of the sanctuary felt like a home with all the children running wild and feral, laughing and excited adults making new friends, powers shimmering and colliding but with often hilarious results instead of massively horrific ones while those who had once been reviled, demonize and rejected before their lives were devoured by the real monsters found their way into the light.
Femke's amazing talent kept us all shielded and safe, though I wondered if Zoe had a hand in that. It was becoming rapidly apparent that her incredible power had an equally soothing effect on all of us, and though I fought her gentle touch a few times, I had to admit it was nice to sleep through the night without bad dreams.
They plagued me when I struggled against Femke's protections, images of Mahalia, of being trapped in darkness, of siphoning off all the power of the Universe while I expanded past the edges of Creation and devoured everything until there was nothing.
Only me in the black, weeping.
