Nobility

Territory of Fitoya, this might be one of the few places in the north which doesn't have a single mountain but even if this region doesn't escape the harsh weather of the north.

In the empire, titles are decided by the territory of the owner and it also comes with a significant authority and power.

The nobility distribution ladder :-

A mere baron doesn't have any particular land or territory. You can say that barons are like business owners or subordinates of higher ranking nobility. That's why a baron can be chosen by a higher ranking nobility but they are limited in seats. A baron can rise either through wealth or through work. There are some barons who are even richer than counts and earls. While some barons like to take up tasks such as being ministers and such.

Viscounts hold a small town along with a few villages under them. They don't do much work and like to be subordinates of higher nobility. In reality they are just subordinates who work under higher nobility and rule under the order of that nobility.

Counts hold a small size city under their control and can have 2 viscountys under their control. Every new count can make any four people into barons. They usually make profits through trading and collecting taxes. They also make profits through mines and other natural resources.

Earls are usually branch families of Dukes or Archdukes. They don't have any other job than following orders of the main family. They also can't interfere in wars to expand their territory under the imperial decree because there are hardly any earls left who are not under any Duke or Archduke. They have 2 Counts under their control while they can have 10 barons each new lord.

Marquess are strong people not because of their noble titles or anything. They are powerful magical and rank bloodlines. The reason why only Marquess are such is because they have conquered the territories and have conquered lands as much as possible. They can't change their titles further as the Duke's and Archdukes. They usually have 6 counts under them.

Duke's are founders of the empire and are called as permanent nobility bloodlines. No one can rule over their lands except for the family which the title is assigned to. They are the people who mostly marry their children in the imperial family fighting for the throne. They have 3 earls under them and sometimes a Marquess.

Archdukes are the branch families of the imperial family. There are only three Archdukes in the empire and each of them holds territory on the borders of the empire. They entirely surround the empire and protect it but in reality the imperial family just feared the rebellion and that's why entrusted the borders to their most loyal subordinates and they themselves deal with inner problems. All three Archdukes hold military powers that's why they only have a few earls and Marquess under them.

' What a perfectly described notebook….' Claude thought while looking at the book.

This book was regarding the nobility distribution of the empire but unlike a book which is sold in markets. This book was handwritten by Ares and is passed down in his family. Ares had given this book to Claude as a birthday gift as Claude was interested in the system created by the empire and it seems like this system is created after many trials and errors.

Claude can't see nobles accepting commoners as their peers just because they are strong. With this system they have given power and authority to nobles themselves but they have also limited the growth of commoners. This created a system which had its own pros and cons from each individual's perspective.

You can also get noble titles from the imperial family themselves but that will be a simple way of bounding the one who received the title to any of the three Archdukes families. There is another way to bind them and that is by marrying off someone who is not in the line of succession but carries the blood of the family to that person. Even Ares' father was married to a cousin of Amber's Grandpa. So in a way Ares is a half noble but he never really gave a thought to this matter. He is also not interested in having a noble title as the work is also not a joke even if you became a subordinate.

" Hello~" Claude suddenly called a knight on horse through his window.

" Yes young master Claude" the knight came near the window and answered.

" Can you tell me about the situation in the Orsini household ?" Claude asked with a knowing look.

The knight understood what Claude was asking but he was a bit hesitant as telling Claude what he wants to know is the same as showing insubordination towards his master.

Claude removed a silver coin from his pocket and showed it to the knight. The knight looked at the surroundings like checking whether someone is looking towards them or not. He swiftly took the coin and started talking like a machine gun.

" The Marquess wants to use you as a weapon." When the knight said that Claude looked at him confused.

" He wants you to fight for the succession of the Duchy." This time when the knight said that Claude looked at him shocked.

" Let's start this story from the start. You firstly need to know how the Orsini household works." The knight continued.

" The Orsini household were always loyal to the Howard household, the rulers of the Duchy of Howard. They send a tier 5 mage to serve under the Duke and when that tier 5 mage reaches to tier 6 he comes back to the territory and rules over it. Until he reaches that tier the Orsini household prepares a new heir who will become a tier 5 mage and serve the duke." He continued.

" The Orsinis have been following certain rules for centuries. One of them is to never marry anyone off to the Howard household. This will help them to keep their legacy and dynasty private but that rule is going to get broken by the current mage who serves under the Duke."
