"What are you even doing here at midnight, knowing you're pregnant, Courtney? Shouldn't you be resting?" I go back to my spot on my desk, picking up my drink.
"I couldn't sleep and I had to make sure you were here before I came. You're usually here this late," she says, shoving a piece of apple into her mouth. "It's either here or at SVR tomorrow morning."
Fuck. I'm glad she didn't choose the latter. Boy would that be more scandalous if she came to the company tomorrow where my father would be.
I wait until Courtney is done eating, still keeping my distance from her, perched on my desk. The entire time, she stuffs food in her mouth and occasionally glances in my direction. There are dark circles under her eyes and she looks stressed. I admit I feel slightly bad for her. She's clearly having a hard time.
