The Child and the Beast

They say that in a fight between non-professional fighters, the first attack is the most important.

And it's true, between two amateurs, the first that gets a hit in gets an advantage. It's not strange, after all, it's more strange if a noob can recover faster after getting hit.

I'm no pro and neither my current enemy is a human, but the situation is similar... well, remotely.

My [Gamer] ability doesn't have a [Observe] skill, and neither the world can do its job for me. That is why I can't see other's levels and names.

I'm the Gamer and they aren't, after all.

Anyway, even if I don't have such a convenient skill, normal people have their ways of checking each other's level.

Intelligent people can use deductions made from observations, but while I've put all my free stat points on LUK, WIS, and INT, I don't have such capabilities, and neither do I have such a skill...

...Blunder. Such a convenient skill should be used. I'll try to grab a book or something.

If I escape alive from this fight.

So, I don't have a deduction skill, but I have what usually Warriors or other physical classes have in RPGs.

[Instinct]

A skill that I created but was almost unable to perfectly grasp. That's why I had to create others with similar skills. They are terrific together.

Anyway, because my [Instinct] didn't warn me about true danger, I decided to go for it.

So the moment the bear moved his face away from me, I started.

[Fox Shadow Style: Blink]

A simple technique where you move silently and swiftly toward your enemy. It isn't accelerating you in any way, you simply move while your opponent blinks his eyes, and gains the perfect position for the second technique.

So, I was just around him and I put my hand on the closest point without a carapace under his head.

[Fox Shadow Style: Rakshasa' Palm]

Neither a punch nor a kick.

And not even a palm technique like monks or shit.

It's a simple skill if you explain it in words. Put your hands on the enemy and twist.

If I used it on another human it should twist all his muscles near it...

Well, it also depends if my strength is up to par with its resistance.

*ROAR*

The strike hit, but there wasn't any great wound.

After all, my physical stats are yet to reach 10.

But, I could see that at least some damage was done.

As I didn't use it on a muscle, the damage was greatly reduced, but I could see that part of the armor was broken.

That was only thanks to leveling that technique. After all, while [Blink] is helpful, using it on a beast rather than a human with whom I interacted since ever is another story.

And [Rakshasa' Palm] while good is less effective against armor and such.

But I have to say that since it also depends on my physical level, it sure is a good technique if I can do that much damage while still a noob.

The now angered bear was flying towards me, and staying still was a bad idea, so I went to continue my strategy.

I'm in a forest, so I'll abuse the presence of trees to hide and continue to attack.

So, I continued to do so.

I also used this way to train a skill I just discovered to be pretty useful in this situation.

The main ones I'm using now are [Fox Shadow Style], [Presence Erasure], [Soundless Steps], and [Instinct].

*SHAAAAAAAA!*

On my fifth attempt, the silicon armor was fully removed from that place, making it perfect for another strike.

But in a fight of more than five minutes, the mutated beast adapted a bit to my ways.

It was more careful to not let me out of its sight, and, while majorly unsuccessful, tried to move before I struck the same place.

They might be non-sentient, but they have good instincts.

Anyway, the moment I couldn't use [Presence Eraure] anymore after he started to stalk me thoroughly, I had a genial idea.

I used one of the skills I use while performing cheap tricks on children while disguised as a magician, [Misdirection].

Tricking the beast was more easy than fighting it. The moment I used it, I stood right behind the tree I passed, while it continued.

And since I discovered it I tried to take advantage of the situation by training it.

I even started to use [Mystify] because why not, and they ultimately gained three levels each.

And now that I used the situation to my advantage, it was time to finish it. After all, I don't have infinite stamina.

So, while it lost me for the nth time I used [Sleight of Hand] and took out a steel-tipped spear.

I had a bunch of them in the inventory as they were identical and took only a single slot for all of them, and they are useful, even though I'm not sure how they keep up with monsters.

While I should be weak for them, they are made from a less dense wood and they only have the tip made of steel, they are manageable.

The moment I had a clear shot for the wound, I attacked with a [Thrust].

It was a clean hit and since it shouldn't be enough to kill it, I left it in there and moved to erase my presence another time.

The bear was now even more enraged and trashed all around while losing a mix of blue and red blood. The inserted spear broke because it rammed a tree but the tip was now even deeper than before.

I waited a few minutes until the beast was almost dead as it wasn't floating anymore.

I canceled my stealth and approached it. Its eyes were now burning with hatred, different from normal animals that usually have clear eyes that scream 'Please, spare me!'.

No, on them there is written 'F***er, I'll f***ing kill you, piece of s**t!'

...If, they could talk.

Anyway, I didn't beat around the bush and took another spear and trusted it in the same place.

I thrust another time and even centered the broken spear inside so that it would enter even more.

The pink light on its armor lost its light, leaving only an opaque pink on it.

You have killed a [Honkai-Mutated Bear]! You have gained 2700 Exp!

You leveled up! 5 free stats points obtained!

You leveled up! 5 free stats points obtained!

//

Woah, that thing was packed with experience points!

Now that I think about it, if I didn't have the skills I owned, killing it could become more difficult, and even now, receiving a hit from such an enemy could kill me.

But I don't have regrets. After all, I can't be cooped up in my room, leveling my skills and being paranoid that it isn't enough to protect me out there.

I may have high mental stats for my age, but that doesn't translate to I use them all the time, thinking there's someone out there who wants me dead.

Anyway, this is my first kill... honkai kill, as I already killed a few people.

The only loot I obtained is this corpse. I don't have any scientific equipment to study it, but I may take a few armor pieces to use myself, and the rest to use on my [Honkai Decadence Reactor]

Huh... f**k my age, why have I to be fifteen before buying cigarettes?! For all the stress this world causes the few that are in the 'known', should have access to free cigarettes 24/7.

But, I'm proud to say...

"First Hunt: Successful"

Author's Note:

Yes, I will start to publish a chapter once in a while... this is kinda stuck in my head.

By the way, does a fanfic author read this? Then how do you cope with all the strange ideas in your head all the time when you don't have anything to do?

Really, is there someone who read those?
