Weiss swiftly changed into her combat gear and returned to the classroom at the amphitheater's base, where Port, wielding his blunderbuss, and the captured creature awaited.
"Go, Weiss!"
Yang cheered, punching the air.
"Yeah, represent Team RWBY!"
Ruby's voice resonated across the room. Weiss sighed, her arms dropping as Myrtenaster's blade tapped the floor. She faced her team leader.
"Ruby! I'm trying to focus!"
Her growl made Ruby shrink back.
"Oh, um... Sorry..."
Ruby winced.
"Allllright!"
Port declared, nearing the cage.
"Let the match... begin!"
His weapon struck the cage, chopping the lock with an axe blade. The door swung open, releasing a Boarbatusk that charged at Weiss, tusks targeting her chest, hooves thundering. Weiss parried with Myrtenaster, dodging the Grimm's attack and rolling to safety. She rose swiftly, anticipating the Grimm's next assault. The creature paused, retreating a few steps to scrutinize her with its quartet of eyes.
"Ha-ha! You weren't expecting that, were you?"
Port taunted the Grimm from behind the safety of his desk and cage.
"Hold on, Weiss!"
Ruby shouted. Trying to overpower her leader's voice, Weiss charged the Boarbatusk, thrusting her rapier towards the center of its armored face. In the nick of time, the Grimm turned its head, snagging Myrtenaster with its tusks and slamming the heiress with its massive teeth. Making her light blue Aura shimmer across her chest. Weiss fought to free her weapon as the Boarbatusk shook its head violently, flinging her about like a rag doll.
"A bold, new approach. I like it!"
Port remarked.
"Come on, Weiss, show it who's in charge!"
Ruby encouraged. Weiss instead glanced at her leader with a glare. The Boarbatusk seized the moment of distraction to throw its body backward, wrenching Myrtenaster from her grasp. The heiress inhaled sharply as her weapon was flung from her hands, and then she was thrown to the ground as the Grimm thrust its tusks into her abdomen, her Aura flickering again.
"Oh-ho! What's your plan without your weapon?"
Port inquired, fascinated by the turn of events. Weiss raised her head just in time to see the Boarbatusk charging at her once more. She gasped and attempted to roll away, but lost her footing as the classroom shook and fissures opened, catapulting the Boarbatusk into the air and onto its back. Weiss then got up and dashed for Myrtenaster, diving to retrieve it, and stood ready to confront the Boarbatusk, now trapped in the floor cracks, upside down.
"Weiss! Aim for its belly!"
Ruby shouted.
"It's unarmored there—"
"Don't order me around!"
Weiss retorted sharply. Taken aback, Ruby fell silent, her expression hurt. Weiss seized the opportunity, using a glyph to vault over the Grimm and drive Myrtenaster into its vulnerable underbelly. The Boarbatusk issued a final cry before collapsing and fading into a cloud of dark mist. Weiss exhaled in relief.
"Bravo! Well done!"
Professor Port applauded.
"Clearly, we have a genuine Huntress-in-training among us!"
He glanced at the clock.
"Regrettably, our time is up for today. Remember to review the assigned readings and remain alert. Class is over!"
Weiss exited the classroom briskly, paying no mind to the slight tremor or her teammates.
"What just happened?"
Nora inquired, observing the confused looks on Blake and Yang's faces and Ruby's dejection.
"It's nothing."
Shizuo dismissed with a shrug.
"I'll handle it."
"How are you going to handle it, Shizuo?"
Nora pressed, curious about his plan to resolve the tension within Team RWBY. The rest of Team RWBY exchanged glances, all wondering the same.
As Weiss stormed off, turning a corner, Ruby managed to catch up.
"Weiss!"
Weiss turned around as Ruby called out.
"What?"
Ruby asked, her voice tinged with nerves.
"What's wrong with you? Why are you acting this way?"
"What's wrong with me? No, what's wrong with you? You're meant to be a leader, but you've been nothing but a nuisance!"
Ruby scoffed at Weiss's accusation.
"What did I do?"
"That's the problem - you've done nothing to prove you deserve your title! In the forest, you behaved like a child, and you haven't stopped since!"
"Weiss, what's gotten into you? What about our discussions on teamwork, and our time with Shizuo? I thought we agreed on the importance of unity."
"Not under your lead. I've put in the work and training. Honestly, I expected better... Ozpin was wrong. If not making me the leader, he should've at least put me on Shizuo's team."
Weiss then saw Shizuo standing behind a stunned Ruby, smiling broadly. In a swift move, he guided both girls away.
"Don't fret, Weiss. You'll have my undivided attention for the next few minutes."
He then led them to an unoccupied classroom, where he began to 'work his magic,' on Weiss, with a participating anxious Ruby, cleaned up Weiss and their aftermath.
Shizuo convinced Weiss to follow Ruby's lead, threatening to cut her off from their private sessions if she didn't. With a hand over Ruby's mouth to quiet her, Weiss asked.
"How do you take your coffee?"
When Ruby responded that she didn't take coffee, Weiss, trying not to get irritated, insisted.
"Answer the question!"
Ruby finally said.
"Cream and five sugars."
Weiss left briefly and returned with a fresh cup for Ruby. Then, Weiss told Ruby that she believed in her leadership potential and offered encouragement, expressing her desire to be the best teammate.
As Ruby expressed gratitude, Weiss revealed that she had always wanted bunk beds as a child. Later, as they entered Beacon's amphitheater, Ms. Goodwitch, their teacher, chided them for being five minutes late, to which Shizuo responded humorously.
"What can I say? I'm bad at managing my time."
Shizuo said, grinning cheekily, putting his hands on the girl's backs, making them jump as their rears were still sore.
"I see..."
Hummed Glynda, not believing a single word coming from his mouth as she took a good look at the girls. She glanced at the girls. Their clothes were sweaty and disheveled, some of their hair sticking out, and there was a fluid leaking down their thighs. Glynda ignored it and simply chose to ignore it, gesturing to a few empty seats in the amphitheater.
"Very well, then, choose your seats. The class will begin shortly."
Nodding, Shizuo led them to their team, who were seated in the middle rows of the amphitheater. Team RWBY finally came together, and the tension between them seemed to disappear. Weiss stopped being indignant, which made Yang stop being on edge, while Blake still seemed apathetic to the situation.
"Good afternoon, students. My name is Ms. Goodwitch, and as the combat instructor for Beacon Academy, it's my responsibility to mold you into the future Huntsmen and Huntresses you aspire to be. This involves assessing the strengths and weaknesses of your unique combat styles through one-on-one sparring sessions with your peers. This process aids me in providing you with the necessary feedback to enhance your skills.
"Moreover, this training is crucial for preparing you to defend against any dangers you may encounter while on duty. Make no mistake, the Creatures of Grimm pose a significant threat to the Kingdoms, but there are equally dangerous foes who wear the guise of humanity and Faunus-kind."
As she spoke, Ms. Goodwitch's gaze briefly settled on Shizuo, a detail that his female companions noticed. They returned her look with wary eyes, concerned she might have intentions toward their man.
"Are there any questions?"
Inquired Ms. Goodwitch, yet the room remained silent.
"Very well, then let's begin."
She announced, extracting her tablet and activating the large screen overhead in the amphitheater.
"The student matches will be selected randomly to prevent you from becoming overly familiar with any one peer's combat style. Let's find out who will be the first matchup of the year..."
The screen cycled through images of all the first-year Beacon students at a dizzying pace. A wave of nervous chatter spread through the class as the roulette continued. The outcome of the first match could influence the semester's dynamic. At last, the display halted on a picture of a well-known blond wannabe knight.
"Look, Jon-Jon, you're first!"
Exclaimed Nora, her smile wide.
"I see that, Nora!"
Jaune replied, his voice tinged with panic, as he looked to his teammates for support—Ren nodded solemnly, and Pyrrha gave an encouraging smile.
"It's hard to believe I was picked when my arm isn't fully healed. But I'll give it my all for Team JNPR."
He declared.
"Better focus on making it through, barf boy."
Yang teased, struggling to hold back her laughter and pointing to the screen. As everyone's gaze returned to the display, Nora's laughter joined the chorus. There, facing Jaune on the screen, was none other than the man, the myth, the legend, the Mini Kaiju of Vale—Shizuo mother fucking Heiwajima.
