Chapter 89: Secrets of the Academy

As Mentor Meng's footsteps faded into the distance, Zephyr let out an amused chuckle. "Well, that was quite the welcome," he began, "Let me introduce you to the place." 

Before he could start, Feng Xuan chimed in, his voice dripping with eagerness, "Is there a tavern around here? I could use some food and drinks after our journey. How about we discuss things over a meal?"

"You're always so ready to dive into delicacies, aren't you?" Zephyr laughed, "Come on then, let's head to the dining hall. Consider it a welcome feast."

The dining hall was a massive expanse, with an aroma of myriad dishes filling the air, making their mouths water. They settled into a cozy corner, with an assortment of dishes spread out before them.

While they were busy tucking into the sumptuous meal, Zephyr began, "You must be curious about the storage card I used earlier, aren't you?" 

Li Yang, Feng Xuan, and Lisa nodded in agreement.

"That card is something you can get in exchange for academic credits. There's a plethora of treasures you can avail with these credits. Ever wondered where these treasures come from?"

Lisa, with a thoughtful expression, mused, "Are they found during quests?"

Zephyr smiled, "Half right. Some are retrieved, while others... well, they're crafted."

Feng Xuan nearly choked on his drink, "Crafted? Who's skilled enough to create such things?"

Zephyr leaned in, a gleam in his eye, "Apart from our five mentors, we have a significant department dedicated solely to the art of alchemy. It's helmed by the renowned Edward, a master alchemist. And guess who his only apprentice is? Grandmaster Yuan, whom you've already met. He passed a rigorous trial to become an official member of this exclusive division. Only those with prodigious talent can even dream of becoming an alchemist."

"So, it's just the two of them?" Lisa asked in wonder.

"Yes," Zephyr responded, "Their department holds an esteemed position within the academy, primarily because they are the source of many coveted treasures. Consequently, it's one of the easiest ways to earn academic credits."

Li Yang's eyes sparkled with interest. "How does one even begin to take these trials?"

Zephyr grinned, "Ah, so you're interested! Well, it's not simple. But if you're truly intrigued, I could perhaps guide you further."

The trio continued to chat, their plates gradually emptying, but their thirst for knowledge growing with each revelation. The academy, it seemed, held more secrets than they'd initially thought.
