A Scream in the Forest

"We could have waited; maybe at some point, we'll find someone immune..." Alicia couldn't bear to take people's lives before they were completely infected; that was something she could never do to her loved ones.

"You can't survive a body bite; if the area can't be amputated, we'd just let people suffer unnecessarily." Dominic was not thrilled about being the author of these killings either.

Who in the world is excited about killing?

"We have to get out of here; let's avoid passing through the main roads and use the forest." Dominic couldn't drive, so he left this task to Alicia, who was still overwhelmed.

The truck they were using was an all-terrain vehicle, so these kinds of places wouldn't be a problem to travel through.

But then a scream broke the forest's silence.

"Ahhhh!!!"

"Someone needs help." Alicia got out of the truck and ran toward where the scream had come from.

"Alicia, it could be a trap." Dominic couldn't keep up with Alicia and cursed his friend's innocence.

Does she think people are still kind? They just saved a boy who was attacked by others; a girl's scream doesn't necessarily mean help.

Dominic had to follow Alicia, but with his wound, he couldn't go far, so he decided to take a shortcut through some bushes.

Bang!

A silenced shot is still very loud, so Dominic could clearly hear the sound of an uproar.

Rrrooar!

But before he could turn around, a walker appeared out of nowhere and tried to bite Dominic's hand, which was wearing a metal-reinforced glove.

"Poor bastard, your teeth will break."

Crack!

Walkers can't bite in hard areas, and it's very easy to protect the areas where walkers usually bite. Arms are normally left uncovered because they can be cut and focus on the most vulnerable areas.

"Dominic, I found someone." Alicia appeared with a girl.

"Was she alone?"

"She was about to be bitten, but I saved her. She hasn't spoken, but she's probably alone." Alicia, before bringing this short-haired girl, made sure she wasn't bitten, so after knowing she was fine, she brought her straight to the truck.

Dominic looked at the girl, who seemed overwhelmed, so he said, "We have to get out of here, now."

"I'll help you." Alicia supported Dominic, and without waiting further, they left the place.

On the way, Dominic looked at the girl, who seemed unwilling to speak, so he asked, "What's your name?"

"Sophia..."

"Speak louder, don't be afraid; we may look bad, but we won't hurt you." Dominic and Alicia still had their combat uniforms, so they didn't come across as the friendliest people in the world.

"My name is Sophia..."

"Were you alone in the forest?" Alicia smiled more friendly after Dominic interrogated little Sophia with his emotionless face.

Sophia clenched her hands and said, "We encountered a horde of walkers, and I got separated from where I was supposed to hide because a walker was approaching."

"A shame, we'll look for them later."

"Alicia, we can't go around being heroes." Dominic was very annoyed by how careless Alicia was at certain points when her confidence was tested.

Alicia sighed; she simply had the need to protect those who were smaller and more vulnerable in this world, even though it was wrong.

"Don't worry, you don't need to hide anything."

Dominic pulled out a cigarette and lit it; he needed to calm his adrenaline, so he said, "We'll need a place to spend the night; it won't get dark soon, but it wouldn't be helpful either if something happens."

"I know, don't worry."
