Chapter 27

Niklaus stares silently at nothing, deeply lost in thought. It had been a while since Ashford left. He recalls part of the conversation and Ashford telling him that he had no clue where the other half of the pendant is.

Sly fox !!! He's definitely not to be trusted. 

The Dimbrugh witches huh ? One of the peskiest set of witches he'd ever heard of and one of their qualities is that they don't die easily, they always find a way to survive.

Like damn cockroaches !!! 

He paces the room in frustration, he could slowly feel his blood boil. He decides to channel his rage to something. As he pulls his hand back to vent on the wall, he hears the voice of a pesky witch.

" Niklaus ! Niklaus ", she rushes through the door with tears in her eyes. For half a second worry flashes in Niklaus' eye but it's gone faster than the speed of light.

" Easy there, wife. I also have issues but you don't see me running around yelling people's names. So calm down and breathe ",she slows her steps, takes a deep breath and wipes her tears before standing in front of him.

" Now do tell. What's chasing you "

" It's Fr . . . Vincent. H . . He's not waking up ", she starts crying again. He finally releases the breath he didn't even realize he was holding.

Who cares about that lad ? Ok, she does but what does it have to do with me ? He says to himself.

" What happened ? "

" I . . I'll explain later but first please come with me and do something ", she stares up at him and he can see the hope in her eyes. The belief that he could accomplish anything is written in her eyesand that satiates his ego.

He gestures for her to lead the way. On his way out he signals Vatler to call a doctor. Elisa takes him to the garden. They enter the open garden shed and find Vincent unconscious with blood running down his nose . Niklaus reaches to check his pulse. 

" He's still breathing " , Elisa takes a breath of relief but the worry is still clear on her features. Niklaus looks at her worried expression and couldn't help feeling hurt but he brushes it off.

" Now, before the doctor arrives. Do tell, what brought this up "

" I . . I woke up this morning and when I saw him. He just kept on insisting that I wanted to hu. . . That I wasn't okay, he said that a lot things had happened for a couple of days now but I couldn't remember them, insane right ? I tried talking him out of it but he wouldn't listen. So he brought me here and was performing a spell. . . "

" Spell ? So our little friend here is a witch ? A witch that lived on mainland. Isn't that spiffing dear wife " he says moving closer to her, he glares down at her anger evident in his eyes. Elisa looks up at him for a second before retracting her gaze and gulping in fear.

" So I have a mainland witch as a guest in my house and little miss gorgeous didn't see it fit to inform her darling husband, huh ? " He says grabbing her arms and squeezing it. Elisa winces in pain as beads of sweat appear on her forehead.

" Wait ! Something's off with your attitude, why are you being all pathetic ? You mentioned he said something about you forgetting things " he says loosening his grip go of her arms. 

" What's the last thing you remember ? Tell me ".

" Uh . . I came back after the game, you invited Vincent and I to watch and I think I went to bed after that then I woke up this morning . . . "

" Damn it ! You don't remember killing me ? "

" What the bloody hell ? " she looks at Niklaus in shock then pushes him away.

" Has this ever happened before ? "

" I don't know, I'm not sure. I think it has like the time I remember everything after I woke up ill at my dad's house but I don't remember anything before that . . . "

" Damn it ! She's trying to awaken. . . . Again! "

" Who is trying to awaken ? What the hell aren't you telling me , Klaus ?" she shouts in anger without realizing it.

Vatler immediately walks in with the doctor. The doctor examines Vatler for a while.

" I can't pinpoint the exact cause but looks like this young man strained himself a bit too much. I'll prescribe some herbs that he could take to get better. Ensure he avoids anything else that'll take a toll on his body "

Niklaus ignores the doctor looking at him like he's a fool.

" Sure ", Vatler responds and signals a guard to see him out.

" Vatler "

" Your Highness"

" Call Monick, our little sick friend here is a witch. A flimsy little detail Elisa over here decided to deprive us off " Elisa lowers her head, trying to reduce her presence to the minimum possibility. 

Vatler leaves them behind to go call Monick. Niklaus signals a few guards to carry Vincent inside and Elisa follows directly behind them.

For a moment or two Niklaus stares at nothing, lost I'm thought.

How long do we have before she awakens ? What the hell is wrong with witches and deciding not to do as they are told ? Darn it !!!

He follows behind Elisa as they enter the bedroom.

" Since you've forgotten, I might as well remind you that there's a ball tonight and you promised to invite a friend of yours over some other time for refreshments "

" What ? A ball ? How can we have a ball when Vincent is lying there . . . " he walks over to her and grabs her arms as he stares down at her. He listens her chin so she could look him in the eye.

" That my friend is your problem to solve, not mine. The fact that I'm still graciously letting him live, disregarding my better judgement, after your little plot to fool me. I guess I have done enough noble deeds for one day. So either follow up with what you are to do or I leave him here to die. See . If . I . Care ! " he says to her face, let's her go and leaves the room, heading for his bedroom.

As they exit the room, Vatler walks in with Monick and stands at a corner quietly as she attends to Vatler.

" Niklaus wait ! " Elisa runs after him and enters their bedroom.

" I'll do as you ask. What do I have to do ? "she stares at him with determination in her eyes. Niklaus turns to look at

her.

" So all I have to do is threaten your friend to get you all fired up, huh ?"
