Chapter 19— Her.

Doyle's POV:

My head drops back onto the couch as I close my eyes and exhale heavily. I run my right hand down my face as tears cloud my vision.

I can't believe it was two days ago we celebrated her birthday in this very living room.

A chuckle escapes me when I remember what happened during the get-together.

"'Doyle, stop trying to fill my plate with more food!'" she exclaimed as her face scrunched in anger, cutely might I add.

'I smiled. "You rarely eat much."

"'I eat enough,'" she muttered while picking at her food.

"'You both make us single men feel neglected,'" Isaac whined.

"'I'm sorry, Isaac. Do you want a hug?'" she sympathized.

I glared at Isaac.

"'No, he doesn't.'" "'Yes,'" we answered at the same time.

She turned around and glared at me when I wouldn't let her go.

"'Doyle, let me go,'" she insisted.

I shook my head 'no.'

She smacked my hand with a spoon and escaped when I retracted my hand.

"'Mean woman,'" I mumbled.

I glared at Isaac and her as they hugged.

"'Okay, that's enough,'" I declared as my irritation increased.

She began to walk toward me when she paused in front of Lucas.

"'Do you want a hug, Lucas?'" she asked.

I narrowed my eyes at him. He shouldn't dare.

His eyes shifted to me in contemplation then looked up at her with a pout.

He hugged her. She hugged him. Deven soothingly rubbed his back while Lucas sighed as he smirked at me.

You idiot!

"'Deven, I want a hug,'" I tried to interrupt their hug fest.

She didn't pull away from him.

"'You'll get one later,'" she replied.

"'But I want one now,'" I complained. I felt like a toddler and frankly, I was one whine away from stomping my foot.

"'Be patient, Doyle. It's not every day that I get a hug like this,'" he gave me a playful smile.

I'm one anger away from punching him.

"'She's my ma- woman,'" I caught myself at the last minute before I called 'mate.'

Lucas sensed my delay in speech and let her go so did Isaac cause he gave me a piercing look.

She walked over to me but I could feel her eyes on me. She was probing me, again.

I smiled and opened my arms to lighten the mood.

She continued to probe me as walked into my arms and buried her face in my chest while her arms circled my waist.

I placed a kiss on her head and squeezed her.

"You're doing it again. Not finishing your sentence," she muttered so only I could hear her.

My eyes hardened as they stared daggers into the plastic plate behind her. I knew what she meant.

"'You guys suit each other,'" Isaac stated. Lucas nodded in agreement.

I looked down at her and found out that she was already staring at me. We stared at each other in the eyes and I realized that she was still a stranger to me.

"'Yeah,'" we whispered, still staring at each other.

Presently:

I frown at the last bit of the memories.

I have to find her.

I can't let her go without knowing her. I have to know one thing about her. I don't know what I've been doing right or wrong. I don't know if I've been doing right or wrong but I do know I want her to be my mate, not a stranger. I want us to finally talk instead of pushing away the matter like cowards. I want her beside me. I want to know her. I want her.

I just have to find her.
