Chapter 49

“Come on, let’s go in before Jack and Jen lock us out.”

* * * *

While Wayne slept on the couch, Pad borrowed Jack’s laptop and Skyped RJ from Jack’s bedroom while Jack lay in bed, sleeping. It took a few minutes, but he got a connection, and RJ came on.

“Hey, RJ. Can you see me?”

“Hi, Pad. I can see you. I’m glad that you could Skype. I see you got my message.”

“Yes,” Pad smiled.

I remember. He told me he loved me.

“I’m glad you came to your senses.” Pad laughed.

“I was a complete jerk, and I know I pushed you away, and you didn’t feel comfortable spending another night in Bangkok. I wish I could take it all back. I keep running in my head what would have been different if you stayed.”

Pad looked away for a moment, shocked that RJ talked this way. So free. It wasn’t the RJ he knew that kept his feelings inside.

What changed?

“I miss you, RJ. I wished all those months we worked together that we’d had this conversation.”

“Did you always love me?”
