Foley

Foley was born, Folier Neptenu, on a sinister April Fool's day, in Albany, GA in 1973. Since birth, Foley could sense that his parents did not like him much as they almost left the hospital without him. Although, he was a handsome child, his parents simply did not want to have another boy or better yet, they were not allowed to have a third son or 'great loss would come upon them'.

YMOR NEPTENU'S MANSION

BASEMENT

JUNE 30, 1972

"But I'm lookin' for the one, have you seen her?"

- Kanye West

Lehcim and her best friend Josie were conversing about Lehcim's fear of having a boy. She had measures in place to ensure the next pregnancy was a little girl. The two women kneeled in their favorite position by their satanic shrine in the center of the dungeon. The space was immersed in red and black ritualistic accoutrement. Black magic reeked in that basement.

"I know what I was getting into, the moment I chose to be Ymor's wife. I knew the implications." Lehcim bleated to her best friend Josie while stretching her neck and arms nonchalantly.

"What do you mean, Lehcim?" Josie questioned harshly.

"I mean I knew about the Neptenu family curse. I knew that the third son from this family was cursed. I was also aware that if the third offspring happened to be a girl, we would be ten times richer in every sense of the word." Lehcim whispered.

"But what if you give birth to a son? What then?" Josie persisted.

"I will get rid of him," Lehcim stated coldly.

"It's not entirely up to you, now, is it? What about Ymor? What if he disagrees with you?" Josie reminded her childhood friend as calmly as possible.

"I know one thing though, if Ymor takes a liking to him, and doesn't allow me to give him up, I will hate his guts until he ends up killing himself." Lehcim divulged without thinking twice.

"Why? Why Lehcim? He is a child. He does not deserve this kind of treatment." Josie scowled.

"This boy would be the end of my family. I must never forget this." Lehcim tried to justify her actions.

"Just give the baby up, if it's a boy," Josie fired back.

"It's not that simple, Jos. I almost forgot, there is another part to the curse if it's a boy, you know." Lehcim countered.

"What is it? Does the boy get to live a full life? I need a menthol," Josie replied sarcastically.

"Only time will tell. We must not forget why we are here." Lehcim massaged the back of her neck after ensuring her hair was in place.

"I have been meaning to ask you, why are we here again? I know it's for spell casting, but who this time?" Josie asked casually while adjusting her white shorts.

"We are here to cast another spell on me, in order for my third child to be a girl." Lehcim answered cheerfully, completely changing her mood, "flattering shorts by the way".

"Awww, thank you. I think we might need some help Lehce. We are not powerful enough. We need a mighty stronger person to cast such a spell," Josie acknowledged while smacking her lips.

"Jos, I do not want anyone else in my business. You know all this about me because you know the real me. We grew up together. I cannot allow anyone else to know." Lehcim was panicking internally.

"I know you do not trust anyone. I know what you had to do at a very early age. It was for no child to endure, but if you want this spell to go right, we need a third member." Josie urged, while reassuring her friend with a pat on the shoulder.

"Then who do you have in mind?" Lehcim queried, feeling overwhelmed.

"LEVID." Josie boomed before squinting an eye.

"Who?" Lehcim was bewildered. Instinctively, she rested her pissy face in her hand.

"His name is Levid. I have known him since the very first day I started learning about black magic." Josie attempted to clear up the confusion while adjusting the straps of her favorite tight red tank top.

"And you are positive that he can help us with this?" Lehcim rolled her eyes.

"I assure you, Lehcim, if anyone can work a miracle for a price, it's Levid." Josie shifted and lighted three candles at the shrine.

"That's exactly what I need, a miracle. How far does he live? Do you think he can join us today?" Lehcim sighed with relief.

"I can work my enchantment for you." Josie murmured something under her breath. She closed her eyes and repeated these three words over and over...LEVID VIENS ICI, LEVID VIENS ICI, LEVID VIENS ICI.

Out of thin air, a tall, charming man with a sly smile appeared. Both women got on their feet immediately.

"Josie, you have outdone yourself this time." To Levid. "How do you do sir?" Lehcim was amazed.

"Fantastic, how do you do?" He politely answered. To Josie, "How do you do? I have not been summoned by you in ages. What can be so important now, ma belle?" Levid displayed the most mischievous smile.

"My friend here is in a pickle about her future baby. See, her husband's family was cursed. To have a third son is like a death sentence. Can you be of any assistance?" Josie asked while playing seductively with her raven locks.

"I believe I can, ma cherie. Mrs. Neptenu, can you come closer please." Levid held out his perfectly manicured fingers embellished with exceptional jewelry.

Lehcim obediently closed the space between her and Levid.

"Oh my, how do you know my last name?" Lehcim was acting flirtatious and surprised.

"Mrs. Neptenu, I knew an awful lot about you before you were even born. Now, is it true that your husband is cursed, his bloodline is cursed, but if that third son happens to have the mark, he could be a game changer?" Levid smiled while looking Lehcim up and down, licking his lips, and speaking with elegance.

"I do not recall telling anyone about this, but yes, it could be a game changer. I would rather have a girl, no complications, guaranteed fortune for three lifetimes." Lehcim was visibly shocked but managed to hold her own to argue for the deal she desired.

"I am never wrong. I know that you love a challenge, Mrs. Neptenu. You could either have a girl or a boy with the mark, but as Josie can tell you, I love challenges, struggles, chaos if you will." Levid regaled in between chuckles.

"What do you mean sir? I feel like I have seen you before. Yes, we have met before. I can feel it." Lehcim furrowed her eyebrows while keeping her gaze on him.

Without muttering a word, Levid touched her belly and smiled devilishly. After turning to face Josie, he took a bow and handed her a blue rose as he disappeared like dust in the wind.
