Finding The Light

He was standing alone behind his door, staring unseeingly out of the dusty window. He was a man who was at home in a dozen capitals of the world, but Victoria falls was one of his favourite towns, Victoria Falls is a town in western Zimbabwe and a gateway to the massive waterfall, he loved the view. His waiting had the patience of a hunter, the quiet stillness of a man in control of his body and his emotions. He is dark and has the stormy good looks of his ancestors. He had dark hair and a strong face, he has quick intelligent eyes that were deep blue. He was over six feet tall, with the lean muscular body of a man who kept himself in good physical condition. The parlour was filled with dirt, and almost everything was scattered on the floor. "Why do they keep doing this, believe me when I say I desperately want to leave this town, seems we are always the dartboard" Mrs Patience said this with a groaning frown as she bent to pick her favourite video tape which was almost destroyed. Beauty just waking up came out quickly to the parlour, the noise in the parlour carried her up"What!!" ``Beauty shouted. Something in her mind seemed to freeze, and it was as if there was a thin veil between her and reality. Her father's voice brought her back to reality " Clean up, this is not the first time it has happened to us," Mr. Eze said while cleaning his radio. The first time our house was robbed, it was our Neighbour Emmanuel who climbed in through the parlour window and stole our TV, and some of my dad's favourite videotapes. This was unexpected as the robbers broke in last night very quietly, without making a sound to send alarm to those sleeping inside. It took about 2 hours to clean up the mess they did, they nevertheless continued their daily activities, Beauty was almost done with secondary school while her younger brother Victor just entered secondary school. The preparation for school was hurried since the clean up consumed most of the time. Mrs. Patience, the wife of Mr. Eze, is a teacher of a small school down the street. Both are the beautiful couple that raised Beauty and Victor. Everyone was set to go except Mr. Eze,he stays at home most of the time, doesn't have a job at the moment but he was searching for one to support his family. The traffic was horrendous, but it was always horrendous at this time of the day, rush hour. God, she hated those words. Especially today. She clapped the palm of her hand on the horn and muttered under her breath "C'mon you jerk, move"

The Resolution

The Resolution

You'll definitely survive, and no one is going to die. Your loved ones are here with and for you. It's not easy for me either, hearing this. Your mother needs support and this fit you just threw hurt her deeply.

Once you get out, you'll need to apologize. You know your mum has high blood pressure, you are raising it. If anything happens to mum now, will you be happy? Come on, she's worried about you. Please come out baby" He asked and tried to manipulate her out, because she was being really difficult and it was hard fir him to, bit he tried to put himself in her shoes

...…

Beauty reflected on what Mr. Eze just said, but she still didn't feel it was enough. She kept crying into the sink as she thought of a life without her mother. She also thought of how they had had a blissful conversation that evening and she still tried to make it seem like she was okay.

Did it mean they would have no more conversations like that?

She cried more at the thought of that.

How would Victor feel?

Barely some months, we lost grandpa and everything. Our life diminished so quickly and now this?

What more damage and scars could life inflict on me?

...…

Mrs. Patience waited for her husband and daughter but she didn't see them.

"Could everything be going alright with them?

"Does he need assistance?"

She thought aloud worriedly

"They're taking too long! And I'm getting worried by the second " She stated

"No no, I think I should go help them" she concluded.

She got up, put on a pair of flip-flops so as to be extra cautious in moving and not to get injured like Mr. Eze.

She went to Beauty's room and saw the same thing Mr. Eze saw. Obviously, since that was the only possibility, she assumed the same as he did and proceeded to the bathroom.

...

"Beauty? Are you in there? Are you okay? Why the silence? You're getting me worried. Beauty, what if your brother wakes up because of all the commotion?

Would you like your brother crying? Stop this. Truth be told, you and I know that we already have more than a truckful of problems. We do not need you getting people worked up.

Come on Beauty, you are mature enough to understand this". Mr. Eze was stating the plain fact to her.

"I don't want to understand! I just want to be left alone. Life should take me too, because I'm not sure I can cope" Beauty said

" I have warned… I'm sorry, sorry. You are pushing me Beauty. I didn't mean to react this way. Please understand" He was about to yell and was already violently banging the door but he remembered he had to be in check.

The sobs grew louder and seemed like a lawn filled with people at a funeral.

Mrs. Patience got there soon enough and she increased her pace worriedly, considering the door banging.

She was almost running. When you mad ethe turn and got to the bathroom door, she gesture to her husband as she asked

"What's wrong? Why all the banging? Besides, where's Beauty? I don't see her"

Mrs. Patience asked worried as she looked around and surveyed the small apartment as far as her eyes could go.

He didn't even answer, was just scanning her all through to make sure she was Alright physically and not even a fly had touched her.

They he pointed to the door and turned his back against it. He was well pissed enough and was tired of the tantrum she was throwing. He gave his hand a place on his head while the other had one on his waist.

She said "Baby, are you in there? Talk to me" She urged worriedly since she heard nothing but the serene atmosphere in the room behind that door

"Mum? Is that you" She asked with a croaky voice that touched Mrs. Patience so much

"Yes sweetheart, and as you can see, I'm totally fine" Mrs. Patience assured

"Oh please mum, don't try to sugarcoat things to make me feel better. I k iw you are sick and soon you will leave me just like Grandpa did"Beauty spilled her mind and heart out like a tank of tomato sauce that had just been knocked ouer. Slow and steady, but impactful

There was silence in Mrs. Patience's end. Those words struck her hard in places and ways she never expected.

She almost broke down in tears. Hearing Beauty speak that way broke her heart more. Funny that she he had though it was already totally broken beyond repair as she fir the news earlier today, but little did she know that she had more love to go round.

She gasped and covered her mouth in awe as she turned to look at her husband. He gestured in a way that meant "you see, that's what I was facing. See how difficult she can be"

As he saw she was about to cry, he came closer and held her hands tight thentold her to calm down.

Beauty was fired up because it seemed like she felt betrayed.

"Silent huh? I thought as much. I heard everything you and dad said. But how could you dis this to me mum? You told me you were fine. Did you think you would be able to hide the truth in broad daylight properly and longer? Come on, it's not possible. (She talked without much respect for them anymore)

I love you deeply. You are my confidant, my companion and my everything. I can't afford to lose you"

"You are not losing me Sweetie. Who ever put that in your head? I don't care, all I know is that you need to get it out as soon as possible. It's eating you up" Mrs. Patience lied and continued lying to see if it'd eventually
