Chapter 2

We start walking towards the woods. Once we are there, I strip down and shift. I look next to me to see a large black wolf, he starts walking past me, my only option is to follow him. As we are walking, I look around at the new forest and terrain that is my new home.

Eventually we come to a clearing and we both shift back. I quickly dress, before sitting on the grass. Lucas takes a seat next to me.

"You have a beautiful wolf."

I smile at him. "Thank you, and your wolf is an impressive size for your age." I recall how his wolf is tall and has more muscle than most wolves I have seen.

"Thanks, perks of being an Alpha."

We smile at each other; I think Lucas is going to be a great Alpha. He really cares about the pack and takes time to talk to everyone. I know there are some Alpha's out there that are just power hungry, those are the most ruthless Alpha's.

"So alpha, if you don't mind me asking, if Gianna isn't your mate; why be with her?"

"Since she is our former Beta's daughter my family believes if I don't find my mate by the time, I turn 18 that I should be with Gianna. They think she would be a good Luna." I can see and hear the doubt with in him.

"And what do you think of Gianna?"

"I think I would rather find my mate. Gianna and I aren't good together, she only cares about herself."

The more I look into his eyes the more sympathy I feel for him. I know it must be difficult trying to live up to everyone else's expectations.

"So, if you don't like her why stay with her?"

"It's more complicated than that."

"I'm sorry, it's none of my business. Why you—"

"No, it's fine. If I'm being honest, I've asked myself that same question. I just don't know what would happen if I did break things off with her."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, I don't think she would take the rejection very well."

"Sounds like that would be her problem not yours. But you are a good person for considering how it would affect her." I see a small smile start on Lucas' face.

"You really think so?"

"Yes. And if you decide to break things off with her, just know I'll be here for you."

"Thank you. If you don't mind me asking, why are you being so nice? I mean my relationship doesn't really affect you in any way."

"No, but since you are my new Alpha, I care about your happiness. If you aren't happy the pack will pick up on it. It could cause people to question, but I also feel a connection with you. And I want to get to know you better." With my words I see his smile grow and my cheeks start to burn at my confession.

"I feel a connection with you too Lani. And you're right, since Gianna doesn't make me happy, I'm not going to stay with her."

For a reason I'm not completely sure about his words makes me feel warm inside and butterflies start in my stomach. I'm glad to know he won't be with her any more. I try to tell myself it will be for the packs benefit but I feel like I would be lying to myself if I said that.

"Anyway, it's starting to get dark, we should start heading back. Do you want to shift or walk back? I let you decide."

I give him a smile. "Let's shift, we can get back quicker. It really has been a long day." With that we both stand and shift back into our wolves before heading back to the pack house.

As we are walking back my thoughts are all over the place. Why am I so happy about Lucas breaking it off with Gianna? Do I really like him that much? I just met him today. Could he be my mate? Am I starting to feel the pull already, I only have a few more days to go until my wolf will be able to fully identify him. But should I take that chance before I know? I promised my family I would save myself for my mate. I can wait until my birthday to find out if Lucas and I are mates, I decide.

As I'm lost in thought I feel someone nudge me, I look over to see Lucas has already shifted back. When I finally look up, I see we are already back at the pack house. The walk seemed shorter this time.

I quickly shifted back and got dressed. Lucas walked me up to my room and we said our good night's. I already know I won't be able to get him out of my head for the rest of the night.

As I go into my room, I get out my pajama's and go to the bathroom. After a quick shower, I get dressed for bed, brush my hair and teeth before laying down to hopefully catch up on some sleep. If only sleep would come to me, instead my mind is still being over run by thoughts of Lucas.

Not just the possibility of him being my mate, just Lucas in general. His looks, his scent, everything about him draws me towards him. Is it wrong to crave someone so desperately after just meeting them? If Lucas isn't my mate then what is this pull?

'Would you be quiet and go to sleep?'

I sigh at my wolf. 'I'm trying. My mind won't listen though.'

'It's simple, just stop thinking!'

I laugh at my wolf, 'No it's not that simple.'

She growls back at me. 'Listen it's been a long day, get sleep and think about new Alpha tomorrow.'

'Ok, I'll try.'

'Thank you.'

With those last words my wolf goes back to sleep, and taking her advice I stop thinking and let myself drift off too.
