Chapter 1

Lani is like any other 15-year-old wolf in her pack. Her and her family lived in Kauai with the Hae Hihiu pack. In a few days Lani will turn 16 and can start looking for her mate. She is happy with her life, she has her parents, brother and her best friend who is also her pack Alpha.

Then her world changed when her dad came home today to tell her family the law firm, he worked for was relocating him and they had to move to the main land. Lani could not believe it, everything she knew and loved was being taken away from her. What made it worse is she knew there was nothing anyone could do to stop this fate.

So, with much reluctance she went to her room to start to pack, no use in dragging out the inevitable. As she was packing, she looked around her room thinking of all the good memories she has had in her room, her home, and her pack. She may not want to leave but she has the opportunity for a new adventure. She knew she could either focus on the sadness of leaving her only home or look forward to what is yet to come.

3 days later

Well, everything has been boxed up and put on a boat to be shipped to the main land. And we boarded our flight a few hours ago. In about 4 hours we will arrive in Portland, OR and be greeted by the Beta of the Silver Thorn Pack. My family is staying at the pack house until our things arrive in a few days. I am a little nervous, but also excited. Our parents showed me our new home online and our new school; however we have to wait until they close on the house before we can start school. Which means we will stay living at the pack house until then.

I wonder how everyone will treat my brother and I? Are they nice people or will we be out casts since were from an island? How long until we have to become a part of the pack?

Suddenly I feel a jab in my ribs. "Ow! Nohea what do you want?"

"Nothing I'm just board, we've been on this flight for over 3 hours now."

"So, you have to bother me?"

"Yes, that's what a big brother is for." He smirks at his comment.

I let out a low growl from my throat and this causes my brother to laugh and my dad to shoot me a warning glance. "He started it!" I quietly tell my dad.

"Nohea, leave your sister alone."

"Fine, but I'm bored, and my wolf is getting anxious being in this plane. He wants out to run." Nohea exclaims to our dad.

"I know but a few more hours and you can go for a run."

"Fine dad."

I start to zone out again getting lost in my thoughts again. But before I know it my shoulder is being shaken. I open my eyes, when did I close them? I look up and see my mom.

"Time to get off the plane, we're here."

I nod and get up to get my carry on. The four of us get off the plane and start looking for the beta of our new pack. As we are looking around the airport a boy walks up to us. We can all instantly tell he's a wolf by his scent.

"You must be the Kelekolio's? Did I say that right?"

"Yes, you did, I'm Mana and this is my family. My wife Ikaika, my son Nohea and my daughter Lani."

"Nice to meet all of you, I'm Caleb Johnson your new Beta. Follow me and we'll get you to the pack house. I'm sure you're all tired from your flight."

"Yes, we are; thank you." My mother chimes in, before we all silently follow Caleb to 2 black SUV's.

The drive to the pack house is another hour and a half and rather quiet. Finally, we pull up to what must be the pack house. It is a large 3 story building that is surrounded by the forest. There are a lot of teens going about around the property. I took a deep breath in before we all got out of the car. Here goes nothing.

Caleb showed the four of us to our own rooms before leaving us to unpack. I look around my current room. It looked like a standard spare room. A full-size bed, dresser, desk and night stand. As I finished unpacking there was a knock at my door.

"Come in." I shout from my spot by the bed. The door opened to reveal who I guess to be the Alpha.

"Hi, I was going around to your family to introduce myself. I'm your new Alpha Lucas Scott." He extended his hand so I took it.

"I'm Lani."

"I just wanted to apologize for not being able to escort you from the airport."

"It's fine." I give him a smile.

"Well, I was wondering if you would like a tour around the pack house?"

"Sure, then do you think I could go for a run through the forest?"

"Only if you allow me to accompany you."

"That would be great." I give Lucas a smile, and he gives me one in return. I then follow him out of my room for a tour of the house.

As we go through the house the tour takes about 10 minutes since he kept getting stopped by people to ask him random questions. But I didn't mind, while he was talking with the people of his pack, I was able to get a better look at his appearance.

For being Alpha, he was young. He had blond hair that was longer on the top with bright green eyes. And he appeared to be around 5' 8" just slightly taller than me. I could see his defined muscles under his black V-neck and he had naturally tan skin from all the time spent outside.

I jumped when I heard someone next to me start talking to me. "You know it's rude to stare." I turn to see who was talking. It was a girl I had not yet seen around the pack house.

"I wasn't meaning to stare. I was just waiting for the Alpha."

"Why? What do you want with him?" She sneered at me.

Who is this girl and what is her problem? Before I could answer Lucas came back to my side.

"I'm sorry about that, it seems everyone always has something to talk to me about."

"It's fine, so—"

"Babe! Who is this?" The girl that had been sneering at me cut me off and walked up to Lucas to cling to him.

"I'm sorry, Gianna this is Lani. She and her family just moved here from Hawaii. And Lani—"

"Oh, how nice for them. Babe, can we go?"

"No, I'm giving Lani a tour."

"She can figure out where things are on her own can't you?"

"Gia, I don't want to be rude, I am their new alpha."

"It's fine really, I was just gonna go for a quick run then turn in."

"No, I promised you I would go with. Gia, I'll catch up with you later." He gave her a quick peck on the cheek before grabbing my hand and pulling me to the back yard.

I look back to see her glaring at me, as if I forced him to leave her behind. I turned back around to see Lucas staring at me.

"What?"

"Nothing, I'm sorry about Gianna. She gets territorial of me."

"Is she your mate?"

"NO!" He all but shouts, getting a few pack members to turn and look at him with a questionable gaze. He clears his throat, "I mean no, she's not. I have not yet met my mate… What about you? Have you found your mate yet?"

"No, I'll be able to start looking soon though."

Lucas smiles and I can see hope in his eyes. "That's great."

"So how about that run?"

"Ya, let's go."
