Chapter 5 - Belath

It's slightly surreal, after over a thousand years of searching we have found our final soulmate. She's actually here in the castle, sleeping in the room we've kept ready for her although I did have to quickly run through cleaning it when we arrived back from the temple. "Me, never." He knows that I would never pressure Emmy into anything she doesn't want to do. At the same time though I can't help but think of what it will be like when she is ready for more than just sleep.

I wake up as dawn is breaking, a habit I first developed after Lilas placed a couple of runes on my ring allowing me out in the sun. It means a lot being able to go out in the sun again, something I had missed since being turned, so I started getting up at dawn to enjoy the sun for as long as possible. Once I'm free and they aren't showing any signs of waking up I head out into the corridor. I stop short of heading into my room as I pick up the sound of Emmy's heartbeat from her room, her heart is racing for some reason. Worried I cross the hall and knock lightly on the door, hoping that she is awake and luckily she pulls the door open.

"Belath." She smiles at me, her heart calming down. "Good morning."

"Morning Emmy. Is everything okay? I could hear your heart rate and wanted to check on you."

"I'm sorry." She replies sounding embarrassed, "I woke up not long ago and didn't know if any of you were awake yet. I didn't want to leave and get lost, so I wasn't sure what to do."

"Well, it's not a problem now. So is there anything you want to do?"

"Is there anywhere I could wash up?" Her voice goes quiet as she continues, "It felt wrong to sleep in such a nice bed last night in my dirty clothes. I don't have anything else to wear but I'd feel better if I at least washed up."

"I can help with all of that. Wait here a second." I run back into our shared room and search begin through Lilas's clothes, being the smallest of us his have the closest fit. It doesn't take me long to find one of his older robes that he rarely wears. Heading back into the hallway I open the door to my room gesturing for Emmy to enter, "After you." She heads into my room only to stop staring wide-eyed.

"This is all yours?" She asks in wonder staring at various bolts of fabric scattered around the room. It is a mess with possibly hundreds of rolls in the room so her eyes are darting everywhere, and I can only watch in amusement while she lights up in true delight for the first time. Emmy reaches out a hand to touch some of the fabric only to pull away at the last second.

"Yes, you can touch any of it." I reassure her and she wastes no time in feeling the fabric she had just backed away from, "I can't wait to make dresses for you if you'll let me of course. For now I can adjust Li's robe for you so that you have something to wear after your bath." Taking my hand for support she steps up onto the small pedestal and pulls the robe on over her clothes so I can start mark the robe for altering, only the length and sleeves though. A full alteration would take much longer and the robe is only a place holder anyway until we can get her more clothes so it won't take me long to finish marking the robe.

Finished with the robe I lead her down to bath, well calling it a hot spring would be more accurate the castle having been built above them. It is one of the reasons why Li and Kor chose to build the castle here, loving the convenience of being able to have warm baths whenever we want without needing to fill a tub every time.

"You can have a bath here, there's some soap over there you can use; I'll go finish the robe and bring some towels down with it in a bit." With one last smile at the sight of her amazement I return upstairs giving her privacy for her bath. I get straight to work on the robe, using vampire speed to finish as fast as possible. Wanting to give Emmy more time to enjoy her bath, perhaps the first warm bath she's ever had, I grab my sketch book and begin sketching down some dress ideas for her to look at when she's done.

Nearly an hour later I head back down to the hot springs with the robe and some towels. Not wanting to scare Emmy I stop near the entrance and call out.

"Emmy, I'm back with the towels and the robe."

"O-okay." She calls back and from the noise I hear moves through the water no doubt hiding herself before I come into sight. "Come in." Having her permission I walk further in placing the towels and robe near the edge of the hot springs ready for her. She's moved to the far edge of the spring and all I can see is her face, flushed from the heat, and her red hair floating around her.

"I'll wait by the stairs." I let her know as I leave. A few minutes later she joins me, holding the wet towels and the robe at least fitting length wise. It's still too big for her but at least she won't trip over it and can use her hands without the sleeves getting in the way. "Ready to go back up, I was hoping that you would look at some dress designs I've come up for you?" I ask hopeful that I've finally got someone to talk with about fashion Kor isn't interested, and Li knows the basics but prefers books.

"Yes please." Her reply is soft, sweet and full of happiness. Taking her hand we head back up to my room and I show her what I'd worked on while she was bathing. "There so beautiful. You really designed these for me?"

"Yes, I've made dresses for friends before but I'm excited to be able to design and make dress for you. We would need to send the dresses to the nearest town for any embroidery though, afraid that's not in my skill set." I'm thrilled that she likes the designs but concerned once again about her self-doubt, those people in her village have left her with no confidence in herself and with doubts about those around her. Hopefully we can help with both of those.

"I could do it." She whispers out surprising me, "The embroidery. I weaved fabric before and small bits of embroidery when I could afford the materials. It would be nice to try something bigger."

"You can do as much as you want here. We have more than enough money, Kor takes his hoard very seriously but is happy to spend it on us." I let her know before we begin talking about what she would want to do on each design and what fabric she likes.

A knock on the door disturbs us as I'm taking Emmy's measurements so I can start making the dress we had decided to do first. Knowing that she needs to gain weight I've let some room for the anticipated weight gain so that she can get more wear out of the dress before it's too small. While we've been talking she let it slip that this her first new dress, I want to give her as much time as possible to enjoy it. Looking towards the door we see Kor and Li standing watching us in amusement.

"Looks like you two are having fun." Lilas smiles at us, "But how about we go and have some breakfast before you carry on." The choice is made for us when Emmy's stomach releases a sound that is similar to Kor's roar in his dragon form.

Once in the kitchen Li starts making some porridge directing me to start cutting up some apples, the most they'll let me do in the kitchen, to go with it and Kor sits with Emmy at the table. Luckily the porridge doesn't take long to finish and is soon served up topped with slices of apple, not being hungry myself I just sit at the table while they eat.

"So I think that we should give Emilia that tour this morning." Li says. "Once we're done with breakfast." We all agree, it's important that she knows her way around.

With the size of the castle it takes the rest of the morning to give Emmy a tour. Many of the rooms we just use as storage or are set up as guest bedrooms for when friends visit so parts of the tour are very brief. Making sure that Emmy knows her way around is the main purpose of the tour, we don't want her getting lost in the corridors.

We finish the inside tour by the time lunch rolls around so we lead Emmy out to the largest garden here and set up a light picnic. It's a warm day so Li prepares some sandwiches and some blood for me, we spread out underneath a tree taking our time to eat. Finishing his sandwiches, a large pile twice what Li and Emmy ate, Kor stands up and starts walking away the suddenness of it startling Emmy.

"Shift." He says explaining in his own brief way what he was doing for Emmy's sake. Standing far enough away he shifts effortlessly into his dragon form taking a few steps back towards us, Li and I urge Emmy to stand up moving to give Kor room to lie down under the tree. The three of us walk back over settling down against his side, Emmy sat in the middle of the two of us.

"I know Kor shifting seems abrupt but that's normal for him. He likes spending a lot of his time in dragon form, as much as he can to be honest. Chances are if we're outside then he's in dragon form." Lilas explains, having known Kor the longest he understands him the most.

"Yeah, luckily he makes a great place to sleep like this." I add making Emmy smile.

"It is comfortable here." She admits quietly. We fall quiet again all of us tired from walking around all morning.

"Perhaps we could tell you some more about ourselves while we're here." Lilas offers turning his head towards Emmy. She nods looking thoughtful for a second.

"Could you tell me about how you met?" She asks nervously. This could be a long story.
