Chapter 61

Blood trickled from a gaping hole in number 15's head. Startled, number 12 and 17 turned their attention toward the source of the gunshot and hastily made their way in that direction.

Varg, taken aback by this unforeseen turn of events, desperately called upon the Hybrids to come to his aid. "Come back here, you mindless mutts! Come back and kill them!" he bellowed in frustration.

As number 12 and 17, the closest Hybrids, veered away from me, I followed their path and caught sight of a familiar vehicle.

It was a four-wheeled behemoth, standing nearly seven feet tall, fortified with sturdy, dust-laden steel bars. The vehicle lacked doors, and to my astonishment, the driver and passenger were immediately revealed.

In my weakened state, I couldn't be certain if it was a hallucination. I thought nothing could surprise me after witnessing Aidan's unexpected survival during the evaluation, but I was clearly mistaken.
