Chapter 35: An engagement is not a simple matter
---
"Understood, Princess."
Ian was as calm as ever, as if Morgan's request was just a question about how his day was.
This made Morgan a little unhappy.
"Oh, Ian, is this your reaction?"
"For you, marrying me is such a plain thing?"
"My Lady, my feelings are by no means plain."
Ian manipulated the reins skillfully so that the two of them on horseback hardly felt any bumps.
"I just can't find any words to describe it."
"But how are you going to prove this?" Morgan persisted. "I have no way of knowing what you really think."
"My Lady, I cannot prove this," Ian said, holding Morgan tighter in his arms. "And companionship is the only thing I can offer."
"So I can only explain it to you little by little in the future."
Hearing this, a moment of joy passed across Morgan's face, but she quickly returned to calm.
"Ian, you should know that I didn't ask you to marry me because I love you."
"I understand, Princess."
Ian answered as if he knew everything.
"I am your property, a chess piece for you to use, a knight at your service."
"But it's still my greatest honor."
"Aren't you sad at all?" Morgan asked softly. "You are just my plaything."
"Yes, I am not sad. Your choice, Princess, has always been the path I should take."
[Morgan did not answer you.]
[But you can feel her moving closer to you.]
[The wheat field that grew from seeds created by magic was blown by the wind, and ears of wheat floated out from the stalks like a golden drizzle.]
[As they drift away with the wind, you hear Morgan's voice again.]
"Ian, don't you have any regrets?" Morgan asked as she looked at the scene of the bountiful harvest.
"I do."
"Then tell me, when was it?"
"When you needed my good morning, but I left first. It is still a regret in my heart today."
"Besides that?"
"Failing to kill Vortigern for you."
"Other than this."
"Hmm... I failed to find the hidden heir for you."
"Isn't this all my regret?" Morgan suddenly realized.
"Yes, because it is your regret, it is also my regret."
"…"
Morgan elbowed Ian lightly.
"Ian, people like you deserve to be used by me for the rest of your life."
"But I am willing, Princess."
"How foolish."
Although she said this, Morgan's hand touched Ian's hand.
"Without me, you would have been deceived by countless women and had your heart broken countless times."
[You two pulled the horse reins together.]
[This is a very intimate act. Just one look will tell you that your relationship is extraordinary.]
[Of course, all of this only exists on the premise of seeing it.]
[There is no one else around you now.]
[This is some alone time for the two of you.]
[The princess's warhorse moved forward until it reached the end of the wheat field.]
"Stop, Ian," Morgan said. "I want to go down and take a look."
"Okay, my lady."
Ian assisted Morgan skillfully.
She landed on the field path with great grace.
"Ian, take me to the wheat field that's growing the best."
"Understood, Princess."
As Morgan requested, Ian took her hand and led her to a wheat field where the wheat was growing most beautifully.
This is the wheat field with the most fertile land and the most abundant water resources.
So compared to other wheat fields, anyone with a discerning eye can immediately see its difference.
Morgan walked over.
She broke off an ear of wheat, looked at it, examined it for a long time, and then pinched off a few seeds.
"Ian, come here."
"Yes."
"Open your mouth."
"Ah—"
Morgan placed her spike-seed-stained finger on Ian's tongue.
"Ian, eat it."
Ian nodded and took Morgan's slender finger into his mouth.
She, with a playful look on her face, gently stirred her fingers between his lips for a while before withdrawing them with a look of pleasure on her face.
"How does the wheat taste?"
"…Seems a bit bitter."
"Any other feelings?"
"…Dry."
Morgan frowned slightly—this expression didn't look like a good sign.
"Ian, the situation is a little more troublesome than I thought."
"My magic seems unable to reverse the decline of the land."
"This is not your fault, Princess."
Ian took the ear of wheat from Morgan and tasted some more.
He smiled and said:
"And, Princess, there are still some sweet and plump ears of wheat among them."
"It's good that you can notice the flaws, but please don't forget the beauty that comes from you."
"Your magic is indeed of great benefit to us, so I hope you won't feel sad because of it."
Hearing these words, Morgan sneered.
"Hey, Ian, you said these things because you don't want to make me sad?"
"My Lady, you asked me to marry you so that I wouldn't have to worry about bad women, right?" Ian replied respectfully. "We have the same idea."
"Ian, you really know how to put yourself in someone else's shoes."
Morgan turned around and hooked Ian's chin with her fingers that had just been stained with wheat seeds.
"But aren't you worried that I'm also a bad woman?"
"I'm really not worried," Ian said calmly.
"If you, my lady, were a bad woman, I think I would have died without a burial place long ago."
"Even if you take a step back and say that you are really a bad woman, Princess, the fact that you have spent so much time on me may be enough to prove that you are a little lacking in this aspect."
"Ehh." Morgan stared at the knight in front of her. "Are you trying to say that I am unattractive?"
"I'm sorry, Princess, that's not what I meant."
"No, you are." Morgan crossed her arms.
"I am angry."
"I'm going to punish you now."
"I'll punish you by making you ride my horse for a day."
Although both of them may have more important things to do, Ian understood that this was an opportunity to relax that there was no reason to refuse—and he knew Morgan thought so too.
Although after that, it might be a little hard for the two to explain where the day went.
But what does that matter?
"As you command, Princess."
"Well, get on the horse."
[You and Morgan are back on the warhorse.]
[You don't have any destination, but you are tacitly avoiding this question.]
[You know that you will discuss many wonderful things during this day, whether it is the wedding or the future.]
[But what you don't know is: tonight, you will discover another secret.]
