Prolouge - The Holy Grail War

(You don't need to read this if you already know the basics of Fate)

The Holy Grail War, a ritual first started by 3 great families from the lands of Fuyuki, Japan. The basics of the Holy Grail War consists of summoning 7 ancient heroes from past, present or future to fight in a secret war in order to get a wish granted by the Holy Grail. The heroes are called servants and are summoned into 7 different classes with each of their own unique skills. The 7 classes being:

Saber

Archer

Lancer

Rider

Caster

Assassin

Berserker

In special circumstances, extra classes can be summoned into the Holy Grail War but only when certain conditions are met.

A person who summons a servant is called a master and in order to summon a servant, they must be a mage and perform a summoning ritual. If there is a servant you wish to summon, they can use ancient relics of the hero as a catalyst. If they don't have a relic, a servant with a similar personality to the master will be summoned. In cases where there are not enough masters in the war, random mages with magic circuits are selected.

This is the basics of the Holy Grail War but not everything is as simple as it seems. A large sudden surge of magical energy that only the elites of the elite mages could sense was discharged in a remote part of the world. This signalled the start of this secret Holy Grail War.
