The high-school parking lot was packed with wolves going to the mate camp. Tri packs school was in no man's land between three packs, in the tiny human village of Far Reach. Far Reach was located in the middle of a very large mountain range of the same name. Almost impossible to get to unless you knew the way. Not many people knew how to find it, and that was how the residents liked it.
If you asked anyone which was named first everyone would tell you something different. There were those that believed the mountains were named Far Reach before the village ever existed. Others believed that the town was built and named and after that it made no sense to not have a name for the mountains in which they resided. And still others believed that both were named around the same time because why not.
Estrid was glad to be done with mixed high-school. All the human boys wanted was a quick romp between her sheets, the same as the boys from other packs. Estrid had quickly learned that thoughs from her stepmother's pack treated her differentially. Almost as if they were hard wired to protect her from the evils of the outside world, and not just her classmates. Even the beta had been livid when he stopped her stalker from kidnapping her two years prior.
As Estrid and Revena made their way towards the Reach pack Revena growled low at several men that dared to look at her best friend with anything but platonic curiosity. When they were almost to the rest of their friends a deep voice loudly called out from behind Estrid.
"Nice ass!" A sharp slap followed the statement and Estrid screamed as she lept away from the offending hand. Pike, one of her friends caught her and pulled her to safety as his much older brother and several other warriors surrounded them, all snarling loudly. Now a large circle was forming with Pike's brother and the guy who had slapped her ass at the center, both sides were snarling. Estrid had learned to quale such arguments as they had been common in high-school.
Estrid fought her way to the center of the circle as the gamma and the alpha of the opposite pack started towards them. "Keep your filthy hands to yourself, mutt!" Preston barked loudly.
"Preston, please we don't want any trouble." Estrid pleaded as she step between the snarling werewolves. Preston would not hurt her. She was not as sure about Dravven. He had been one of her more vocal admirers so she believed he wouldn't harm her.
"What seems to be the problem here?" Gamma Sorin barked as he pushed his way to the front of the crowd.
"This pig just slapped Estrid's ass!" Preston snarled in response.
"Preston stop! it was just a missunderstanding, Gamma, nothing more. I am sorry I caused a disturbance." Estrid cast her eyes down as she switched her gaze to the Gamma.
"It seems to me that this young man is the problem. Not our Estrid. Wouldn't you agree, Alpha Cladress?" Estrid did not know that the alpha of the other pack was present until the Gamma addressed him and held his gaze, daring him to disagree.
"I wouldn't say that, nessisarily. My son only wanted to compliment her." The older man sniffed arrogantly.
"Allow me to clear up the confusion, Alpha. Dravven I am not interested in you in any way. Please leave me alone." Estrid responded firmly.
"Or what? What are you going to do? You're a weak little human." Dravven smirked. "Though you do have all the right curves. If you're lucky I will find you later."
"Is that a threat, petulant pup?" Gamma Sorin Snarled as he pulled her behind him.
"Gamma Stop! Please! It's fine! Alpha, control your son. Next time I will not intervene. Is that in any way unclear to you?" Estrid pushed her way between the warring factions.
"Of course not, Luna." Alpha Cladress sneered. "I will make sure he keeps his distance." The alpha led his son back to the front of his pack.
"What? I'm not the Luna." Estrid muttered as she watched them walk away.
"Good rediance to bad trash." The Gamma snapped and took her arm to lead her to the front of the pack with Revena. "All right! Every body listen up! I am going to call your last name! If you have older siblings please follow them! If you are the oldest Raise your hand and I will link you which bus you and your siblings will be on!" He looked at Estrid and Revena. "Bus A. but wait until Others start for it and hide in the crowd."
"Wait, I thought it was done alphabetically." Revena said.
"Normally yes but I don't trust Cladress half as far as I could throw him. I happen to have a warrior, who shall remain nameless, who just found his mate. She is human and driving bus C. I will be putting him in charge of that bus." It was clear that Sorin wanted to keep Estrid close.
